You can also resize non-contiguous columns - select columns (command-click on the column letter on Mac) and then drag the size of any column and all selected will adjust to match.

Reversing the sort order of the data fixes the upside down histogram but, the series labels position is left unchanged (1:45). However, using the "Categories in reverse order" option, aligns the series labels in the same order as the histograms ( 2:05).
This is very helpful, thank you for sharing your knowledge! I am curious though, why in the second method, the bar for Females who are 100+ is much smaller than the male's bar - even though there are more than two times as many women in the category?

To move two objects or charts at the same time, click on one chart, hold SHIFT or CTRL and click on the second chart, then you should be able to move them. In deleting the female and male series, the corresponding data labels for the horizontal axis remained.
Probably because the minimum and maximum axis values are not set to Auto.
Any particular reason why you don't move the vertical axis to the centre on the first chart and instead copy it and paste to a 2nd chart please?
The only way to get the vertical axis in the centre and not have it overlap the bars is to use to charts, as in the second example..
