Destiny 2 is in its final year with the release date of The Final Shape coming around the corner soon. Im here to answer the question of is Destiny 2 worth playing in 2024 and what the new player experience in Destiny 2 is like right now. Should a new player start Destiny 2 as The Final Shape is releasing for 2024? 2023 Destiny 2 had the infamous expansion of Lightfall, and since then, Bungie has underwent changes to its staff and made major overhauls to the game itself. Should you play Destiny 2 as a new player at this point? Full analysis on the current state of Destiny 2.

One thing to note is they have not stated that final shape is the final expansion it’s just the final story in the light and darkness story
I don’t know if he realizes they are about to get a ton of new players due to all the free stuff and then final shape. People like me who got sick of other games are curious to try it out its a great time to do so and if we get hooked, ill be playing D3. And by all means, im sure thats what they planned.
You shouldn’t really talk about this topic without mentioning about the Into the Light update. I would say that this did not give the best run down of what Destiny is like at the moment. For people who are new, you should watch other RUclipsrs around the community to get a better picture of the game right now. I would start with watching @Datto

Nothing is depressing about the CURRENT STATE of destiny, not the past state the CURRENT state. It seems everyone has forgotten what the word CURRENT means. Nothing about what he said is really CURRENT and its just reused info from other content creators. This guy plays COD and really has no business talking about destiny, I don't even need to explain how stupid this video is and how stupid I felt watching and listening to a COD player talk about State of games.
I started this game end of 2020, as a solo player, I did my homework by watching
All of the videos for the previous seasons and gameplay to help me improve…. Many hours, but I have had fun. I lfg despite having a big clan, I just don’t really like feeling tied in where I can’t leave at any time so I stay distant. I’m ascendant 1, top .8 % 6’s, top 6% trials, gilded conq, lvl 11 paragon, completed master raid content and other raids by learning on the fly with Lfg’s, got my legend onslaught emblem, I will have a god slayer emblem when that time comes… point is, I learned as a solo player, using needed lfg for pve endgame and soloing pvp, that one can reach near the top despite the odds. Get stomped to get gud 😅 it works, gotta have 🥜 s though.
into the light cope that still doesnt change the fact that all bungie has to do to "solve" their problems is drop more dlc and skins and sell the same gun you've already seen but in a different seasonal activity
Every argument made in this video has been made thousands of times before. As of right now, May 2024, Destiny is in great shape. Lots of people playing and excited for Final Shape, even new players. Take a look at LFG, there are a lot of new raiders trying to get in on Pantheon runs. Destiny 2 has had its fair share of issues, but this video released at the wrong time.
This is akin to a 2019/2020/2021 rambling. Most of his “issues” are solved or beat to death by the community for years. Mix it in with a bunch of nonsense takes about community sentiment, while having not been around since beyond light.
This is an outside looking in prospective while half assing it at every turn. Clearly was trying to rage bait/cash in on the state of d2.
His cod vids are similar but he atleast knows the situation he’s talking about.

Skipping over forsaken, the most loved expansion in d2s history is a pretty big oversight. How does one simply forget the game’s golden age? As a player with almost 7k hours on steam alone this entire video seems really shortsighted. Who is this video for? A lot of misinformation and over dramatization of things also being spread.
Then also for the most part skipping over witch queen as well

@@NairaBTW This isn't a history video nor a deep dive on d2 its talking about the state of destiny so you having expectations to see the Forsaken DLC be talked about is on you not this video, if you want to see a deep dive then go watch a deep dive.
Also the video isn't misinformation or an over dramatization of things its pretty accurate D2 has been on the decline since Lightfall and every reason he gives for that is accurate.

I could legitimately write a 10 page essay discrediting this video, but I’ll just pick out the easy ones and blatant misinformation.
1. When talking about the game you legitimately skimmed over potentially the high point of the game. For someone who claims they “love” the series you just forgot to play forsaken? You also then never mention witch queens high points and community sentiment.
2. You complain greens and blues are out of the game when the community for years begged bungie to remove them. They were even removed in d1. Exotics aren’t rng because casuals complained they were unlucky and locked out of weapons. You say it’s a core part of the identity for destiny but that’s legitimately every looter shooter ever not just d2, but we’re long past rng drops.
3. Clearly don’t know anything about crucible. It’s always been about loot for both teams. It’s also always been class based and which is more broken. It was an issue in d1 with shoulder charge, self rez, panic supers, etc. crucible in d2 is extremely dependent on cheese of special ammo. If you’d have done any research you’d know that. It’s not in a healthy state and just finally started getting updates again.
4. New light is definitely a free to try not free to play and needs some buffering but bungie is now allowing players to skip it entirely. You’re comparing a 60 dollar experience of d1 to a demo. It’s definitely an onboarding issue that it’s shallow but comparing the two is shallow. Straight up content you can access, d2 clears d1.
5. You complain about the risk runner quest and Cayde, without following anything about it. He’s supposed to be a “myth” in the mission. As soon as you get back to the tower they match you along to his grave for context. The mission is written in a way where he’s a legend among guardians. Any game ever has lore akin to that situation. There’s also the caydes care mission that players are asked to complete around the same time detailing Cayde and his death.
6. Rambling about sunsetting in 2024 just makes no sense. This is a supposedly a video talking about new players experience so it legitimately doesn’t affect them. It sucked, it was a bad idea, but it happened and now it’s so far removed it doesn’t matter. Those weapons have been power crept and would be trash anyway. You also say you can’t get any of that loot but all year 1 loot is obtainable from the collections tab.
7. Destiny and bungie have already figured out the red border issue. Sometimes there’s random roles sometimes there’s crafting. It changes season to season. You still have to have good rng to get 5 red borders for each gun you want to craft.
8. Bungie has basically admitted they just wanna take the reigns off players and let them play whatever. Come final shape it’s full throttle do whatever looks interesting.
9. You complain about the story feeling jumbled yet you jumped around on purpose. No shit you’re lost. You can’t watch season 1 of a show then jump to 3 then back to 2. You then admit to not caring anyway. The story we’re following started with shadow keep. They’ve said as much. The game should have its story in game that’s true, but there’s a easy story to follow from act 1 to act 3 if you play the game.
10. You complained about the veil and being lost legitimately only because you knew it was a community issue months ago. The veil has been explained over the last few seasons, but you saw a byf video from March last year and ran with it.
11. Complaining about price in a game that’s on year 7 is just rage baiting. It’s a pricey game for sure, not new player friendly at all, but that’s the reality of an mmo game. Final fantasy 14 is the same way with a subscription. Cod is a 70 dollar update every year. 50 dollars for an expansion is hardly bad every year. Eververse does suck no doubt.
12. Using the layoffs to help prove your point is scummy. Once again was a headline you saw and ran with it to add to the script. No talk about upper management and the actual backlash that happened because to you it was a bullet point not an argument.
Overall you just weren’t the guy to talk about this game Chop. Through the whole video you say atleast 4/5 times destiny is dead after final shape and it’s going into maintenance mode and the team is gutted for small updates. When the exact opposite has been said a million times. Luke Smith years back admitted it’s a turning point for the game not an ending. He then doubled down last week. You can say the script was done but you then in this very video mentioned the guns are being unsunset which is an update we got last week, so that doesn’t hold up at all. Veterans are definitely concerned about the games future after the final shape, plans can obviously change, but this isn’t the end of d2. Games like siege csgo overwatch final fantasy 14 war frame wow RuneScape have stayed around for so many years, d2 has a popular backing and isn’t going anywhere.
Most, if not all of these issues scream someone who needed a video and cobbled together headlines and old issues to rant about. The comments are lighting you up for good reasons. It’s like you asked chatgpt to make a destiny 2 video. I love your cod vids, pls for the love of God don’t cover d2

I can tell you know nothing about the current state of D2. The community is in high spirits with all the positive changes Bungie has been doing & announced for this expansion. You definitely just saw RUclips videos & articles from months ago when ppl weren’t sure what the future of D2 was. Do your research & play the game!

Bro what is this video??? They never said this was the last expansion, it’s the final arc of the 10 year old story. Theirs still big seasons and expansions that will be announced come after Final shape. If you are a new person, you should play right now! Every dlc except the newest one (which is free on ps plus this month) and the last 4 seasons of content are all free right now. When final shape comes out, 2 major story expansions are staying free so there will be more coming out. I’ve had quite a few friends hop on recently and theirs so much free stuff released including new pvp maps and the into the light event. This video is obvs pretty clickbait and engagement farming for clicks sorry

You realize videos take time to make, in the time of me writing, recording, scripting and editing, some has changed, at the time, all the DLC was still nearly full price. My point with Destiny 2 being done after the final shape isnt literal. But thats in effect, "the end" for the traditional content releases. This is the "Endgame moment" where after this, a large portion of the playerbase will put a bow on Destiny 2 and shelf it. if you had actually listened to the video, I mentioned that Destiny 2 has made many positive changes over the years, but i still stand on the fact that its still in a weird spot and the new player experience is still very bad.

I’m a returning player. haven’t touched much other games since getting back into it. I love all the changes they’ve made and it felt incredibly easy to get back into after not playing for a year. This isn’t it.

Literally all the DLCS are free until TFS comes out and Shadowkeep and Beyond Light will be free when it does, we just got a new free content update, PvP maps, a Raid boss gauntlet, weapons that were no longer able to be used thanks to sunsetting are finally gonna be usable again and brought back and TFS is actually starting to pick up hype… Please actually keep up with the game before making even less people wanna play it in a time where the game is actually trying to heal 😐

It is dirt cheap if you buy everything on sale for the amount of content you get, 38$ dollar total for every DLC that's been out, if you buy it in the cheaper bundles. It's on sale at the moment. Only thing that's missing then would be the witch queen dungeon key for an additional 10$
So right now all three DLCs/this year seasonal are free and you keep the content now

I tried getting back into D2 with the last expansion and was sorely disappointed. At this point I think I’m going to check out until or if a Destiny 3 ever happens.
I have just come back to Destiny in the last 2 months, and I am really enjoying the game and I played Destiny 1 Alpha. The game has changed but in most cases i would say for the better. I have completed 4 campaigns this week on a warlock and have really enjoyed the game again. And into the light has been excellent most of my old clan mates have also jumped back on the game again.
Keep to that! avoid videos like these because this is nowhere near the current state of Destiny
I feel the same way with the progression. It feels like a short cut for new players at the cost of experience it from the ground up.

Removal of core story Missions.
Adding Crafting that requires 5 blueprints per weapon.
The popularity vote at the end of a group mission, as a component of gaining Guardian Ranks.
New player (What is a Cayde 6 , a Crow and Red War)
I agree with you on that crafting 5 pattern is asking for a lot.
I wouldn’t say it’s a popularity vote when every one you play with hands them out like candy. The only time you wouldn’t get any commendation is if you’re genuinely a toxic person
I wish destiny had more unique weapons. Like how borderlands had blue rarity weapons with red flavor text that made them special advanced weapons that even kate game had viability. I would love to see stuff like that in a destiny 3. Becaune legendardy and exotics weapons while fun get boring over time when that's the only stuff you see.
i have friends who used to love Destiny and were talking about it recently and youtube apparently heard us so here i am as someone uninterested in Destiny personally

Crucible.... Arguably one of the things that got me into PVP online, no exaggeration. Used to run Mida Multitool or Fighting Lion..... Dammit I miss those days but it just doesn't seem worth going back. Especially since the devs sundowned a bunch of exotic quests I was in the middle of. Can't say I would feel right about paying for Thorn after putting in hours of grind, and paying for the subscription for a while.
except that, there are abundant rumors D3 is being worked on.

Because everything would be on Bungies servers still. Uninstalling doesn’t affect server bloat. I’m actively against the removal of content but it’s hard to find a real solution.
I loved Destiy 1 played it everyday for almost 16 hours a day, but I couldn't love Destiny 2 the same way. It just felt so different, I can't exactly pinpoint it; but that excitement from D1 was not there for D2 for me. Even though I was a D1 vet playing from Beta, I just didnt vibe with the UI of D2 and as someone who has issues mentally, I sometimes require an easy entry to a game. Some games I don't need that handholdy shit and some I really do, Destiny 2 is one of the games that I really did need it and it frustrated me as a D1 vet. Like how does this feel like a completely different game to me? Why am I struggling with D2 when I poured thousands of hours into D1?
And about the Destiny memories. I will never forget getting a Godroll Black Hammer after having my friend and his group carry me through Crota's End, I was horrifically under light level as I took a break and every single person in that PlayStation party cussed me out for being the luckiest player they ever met, never took another break from D1 after that drop and I became a sherpa to help people like I was helped.
Honestly its kinda hard to buy anything for this game since theres a chance itll get sunset like other expansions, ntm the mission design and story is just boring. Like the mission is always go here and kill this guy or pick up that thing and put it here in the most linear setup ever. Like why give me a tank if im only going one direction. The new stuff they added is nice but its not really enough. Onslaught is just a poormans firefight from old halo, returning sunset loot is great but it shouldnt have been in the first place. They only just added new pvp maps in the games 7 year lifespan. They say games like elden ring and baldurs gate are overdelivering, boring characters(yeah cayde is liked so much bc hes the only one whose personality is highlighted outside of lore) im planning on checking out once the final shape comes out bc ive been playing for so long. They botched the story and just leave unanswered questions on the table for the seasons to carry out instead of just properly progressing the plot, they took almost 8 years to add a new race to the game, the game is incredibly difficult for new players to get into ask any new players and they'll tell you how long it takes to understand everything, super scummy business models that they just get called out for then backtrack on. Plenty of people hate the game but feel obligated to play it bc they kept asking for more and more money.

@@nickblack2006check my comment if you sort by new. I bo through legitimately the whole video and everything he got wrong. They did remove 4 parts of the game. Red War, Curse of Osiris, Warmind, and Forsaken. Bungie upgraded their engine around 2020. The game was too big and people weren’t playing so they decided to remove it and update it for later. It sucked but they have their reasons and let players know months ahead of time. Made all of it free to play and updated the loot pool so players could earn the gear. The cutscene and stories were removed sadly. It’s a shame and would definitely be a nice onboarding spot for new players a few years ago, but now it’s so far removed it doesn’t matter.

D1 will always be the best! The amount of hype everyone experianced when they got the vex or ghallahorn was insane. I remember hearing the vex go off in a pvp match and then seeing everyone running away was sooo funny😂.

The game feels alive but dead at the same time. Maybe it’s because all my friends have long moved on since destiny 2. I personally think destiny 1 was peak with perhaps some resurgence with forsaken. Game felt dry and lost so many people afterwards.

You mention onslaught and stuff but you miss the mark, fans are actually pretty happy with the game (sick with Bungie leadership screwing the little guys) but still wanting to play the final shape.
I was lapsed due to stuff that went down just after light fall and all the crazy BS since but I’m ready to play final shape myself…so I know if I’m back there are people who were less upset than I was that are back too
The real problem is we've been playing this game for to long its been almost 10 years its never gonna be what it was 5 years ago. Dont skip forsaken and objectively speaking D2 is better then D1 easily

Hey Mr. Chopper, I literally just started Destiny 2 for the first time ever a couple of days ago. I've never tried Destiny 1 or 2 before, or even halo, so this is my first time ever experiencing this franchise, and I am having a blast, grinding and building classes. I not interested in the story too much, but just playing the game and watching the cutscenes out of order, I am getting interested in learning the history of Destiny. Perfect timing for this video to come out. I'm already ready for Destiny 3!

Well glad you’re enjoying the game as a new player, but 2 things to clarify:
1. This video (as to what’s current) is heavily inaccurate
2. They’ve said on numerous occasions they don’t want to do D3 yet and it’s at minimum 2-3 years away
If you want accurate destiny history (events, metas, some lore) a really great (and sadly in this case) more accurate channel to watch would be “evanf1997”
As for what to aspire for next prob raids, dungeons, PvP, trials, build crafting,etc

Your definition of an MMO and everyone else's definition of an MMO is vastly different, while yes, Bungie does want to turn Destiny into an MMO, the thing is Bungie wants the MMO, without the MMO, if that makes sense, Bungie wants the expansion capabilities of an MMO, the monetary potential, but Bungie does not actually want to make an MMO, I know this, I have met some of the dev's, my co-workers and I have had talks about what many of them wish to see, direction that the company is going in, and why. It is far more profitable to be the company to make an MMO without the actual elements of an MMO, because MMO's are expensive in the long run, but their monetary potential is lucratively attractive to companies, Bungie is a business, and their goal is to make money, even if it pisses everyone off.
I've been playing destiny since destiny 1 I've started at launch. I missed the Beta, but that's okay. I absolutely love the game, but then again. It's cancer.

First thing you got wrong is that Bungie has come out multiple times stating that the Final Shape is NOT the end of the game. They keep saying it’s a new beginning for the franchise. The Final Shape is a conclusion not to D2 BUT to the Light and Dark saga. Dude people are actually enjoying the game finally and Bungie seems to actively be trying to make D2 a good game. Bad video man.
Bungie is making D2 bare minimum, like finally adding new maps to MP (and it’s only 3). The community seems to be coping hard rn bc they’re finally getting stuff they’ve been asking years for which other games have had for time.
Any D2 player who thinks Bungie cranked out all this new content in the past couple months has to wonder why they never did this in the past couple YEARS. Was it purely done this time bc the backlash was so harsh and apathy by the larger gaming community was heavy ?
It’s more likely that most of these updates brought by into the light were planned for final shape since Bungie has stated that the types of content they just released would take longer than the time they claim to have put it together in.

Your lack of information you have for this game really baffles me. How are you so unaware of the game you play and make confident bold statements that literally contradict the state of the game for destiny right now. Maybe if you made this video years ago hell even months ago, I would understand. But nothing you said was new or even something that I can relate to anymore
1. This is not Destiny's "Last Expansion" Bungie has states MANY times this isn't the end for destiny 2, whether it is the last expansion or not. This "Last Expansion" Is not the end of destiny 2, I think every player in this community knows that. Idk how you didn't know that? this is the end of a saga but bungie has stated there are more sagas coming.
2. The game is in a great state and has improved vastly. Give credit where it is due. New PVP maps, Promising upcoming expansion, Free content with 0 microtransactions, Raid Activity, QOL Updates, Better and easier accessibility to newer players. New light supers and even a mixed subclass that combines light and dark allowing us to multiclass. I truly do not know where you got your info from that says this game is depressing but I think you should keep your content outside of destiny. Nothing is more annoying than hearing people complain about a game they have no knowledge or understanding of because you spent 40 mins and hours of editing just to tell me literally nothing.
3. Most of your gameplay looked like old clips from WQ, ive seen a few more recent clips but it looks like you played the game the most when bungie released WQ about almost 2 years ago. If you made this video 2 years ago I would agree with a lot of the things you said
4. Bungie performs best when backs against the wall, this Expansion has to succeed as it is going too. There's nothing around that, it has to succeed and it will.

buddy, i adore your CoD videos, but this ain't it, i am an authority in Destiny, and I can tell you that right now, the game's in a very solid state, we got lotta hype for the FINAL dlc and final act of the "saga/story/plot" and its kinda exciting, so this is a very bad time to put a video like this.
Also, you gotta understand Destiny beyond the usual "DLC model live-service? yuck!" to give a proper insight, given Destiny was kind of the first games to adopt this model, and we are WAY past that disgust.
Destiny in a way was a trailblazer into how live service games became the way it is today. It's only Destiny and a handful of others that do the method in a more reasonable way than some others we've seen over the past couple of years.

I am not going to lie Chop, I would've taken the time to redo the script. D2 is in an amazing state. They've given seasons, expansions, everything but lightfall itself for free, as well as into the light, lightfall's raid exotic 'Conditional Finality' for free. A raid boss gauntlet for free, a 50 wave hordemode with some of the best guns in the game for free. This is quite literally THE BEST time to get into destiny, and it looks like it's getting even better.
Lightfall is even free right now for ps plus.

Destiny isn’t depressing these type of videos aren’t what the community needs at the moment a better way to actually tell people they should prep for the new DLC that is coming out get the red borders while you can and do some pantheon stop looking at the future and just be in the now for destiny
The heavy amount of microtransactions, fake f2p yet still can't get new players in, constant bugs that take weeks to fix but exploits or fun bugs are fixed immediately, half the content that was in the game was removed or sunsetted. The only reason anything has changed is because the community is actually snapping. These aren't even half the problems. Destiny has always been depressing. It's just hard to find the good in it. Playing with friends does not count.

New players haven’t had any problems as of recently or in a while and ALL DLCs and SEASONS are free until TFS and they get to keep all their loot. Microtransactions: $20 for a set of armor, shaders that use to be 40 brightdust and was raised to 300 now and some are locked behind a bundle now. Transmog(or something) was made to be a grind on purpose so people would spend money on silver to buy it.(also this is where it starts. Cosmetics).This is more than the season pass and it's $15 now. Dungeons are now separated from the season pass when we know damn well Bungie gets paid enough to not do any of this.
Bugs: There is a big in the game for some people where you cannot voice chat or text chat in game because it is locked to being off. Bungie knows about this and yet it has not been fixed.

@@theantagonist2960 Cosmetics still and 20$ for a damn armor set that adds nothing but visuals is a pretty average price, 99.9% of shaders can’t be bought with silver and you get 700 for free every week and you have the season pass and seasonal challenges that give you BD also if you do all of them you get 4K BD and bundle shaders eventually get sold for bright dust anyway so whining about shaders is just pathetic, just say you’re lazy to grind a couple strikes for transmog plus it got refreshed this season so you could get more due to season length, dungeons are currently free until June and nobody uses in game text or voice chat 😐 keep reaching buddy. Like I said: Nitpicks. Keep up w the game b4 you speak on it.

Chop I’m a long time fan my guy but this video seemed like is was stuck complaining about stuff that happened years ago most of these problems are kinda irrelevant now idk what this was recorded but a lot has changed for good and worse since about a lot of this stuff happened that you talk about but this video my guy seemed very misinformed
My personal gripe with destiny and its community is that they don't seem to know that fun doesn't always equal difficulty, it seems that bungie thinks that making encounters more difficult will make them more fun to play, and this worries me in TFS since they said the raid (and i assume that the story too) will be the most difficult ones so far. Good thing i managed to drop this shitty game!

I played SO MANY hours of Destiny that when the sequel came out, I never thought I would play anything else...
Played Destiny 2 for like 40 hours, got all the New Monarchy loot I wanted and never looked back. Didn't even give the DLC a try DESPITE owning them... Destiny 1 was truly amazing and the fact that so many of the original creators left BEFORE its own completion ruined what could've been amazing... Now... Now I poke my head in the state of the game and thankful I got out when I did.
