I don’t think all the added feature found in EZbass are gimmicks which is why I think pound for pound it’s a good start from Toontracks. Great video! Well I love classic disco funk and I prefer the vintage bass. If I'm not mistaken, it was an Ernie Ball Music Man on "Good Times" and I love the gool ol' Fender Jazz bass for this style. I was unable to find out which bass was used for Dua Lipa's "Don't Start Now", but it looks like some Fender Precision-ish model. Anywho, the EZBass sounds fantastic! P.S. how well does it perform slides?

      Thanks for your comment(s), you clearly know your stuff. Yes, it was indeed Ernie Ball, 10 points to you 😎
      With regards to slides I haven’t quite got the hang of it/them. There's lots of key switches one can undertake to make EZBass even more life-like/realistic.
      I totally agree with you WRT the sound(s) of EZBass, one can only imagine where we’ll be, in say 10 years. Musicians will once again have to develop new skills. Digital music is being transformed and many of the traditional “musical” skills are being re-designed, much like what we witnessed in the early 80’s with the introduction of digital media.

      @@SoundkandyStudio Thanks. Well I'm a musician since forever and with time one picks up some stuff here and there ;) I did a ton of MIDI programming/sequencing since around 1991, starting with Cubase and a humble Atari 1040ST. As you know, contemporary musicians always come up with new skills, revealed through super transparent and punchy recording technique, but you only hear that outside the mainstream. I have yet to hear a virtual bass that reproduces all the expressive details of a great player. No need for all that in most rock/pop music, but for funk, jazz-fusion and of course these awesome gospel bass players.... Thanks for reading my random ramblings.

    • @SoundkandyStudio
      @SoundkandyStudio  3 года назад +1

      Somewhat, for the most part the bass accompaniment is very basic and is really just used as guides. But yes, it is possible. If you have the session stems of your music you can even get Toontracks to record the lead guitar using Toontrack’s “audio sender” and then create a bassline from that.

    • @SoundkandyStudio

      I’m using Presonus Studio One 5 it has a tone on midi macros and operational key-switching options that make handling midi very comprehensive. Yes, it can slow down ones workflow, but once you get use to it, it works well.
      Sustaining 1/8 note can be done with a key switch, note a problem. Perhaps I should have gone into these issues, however I’m sure people would have said they simply want to hear what the product sounds like… 😂 and not want me to talk about midi, nevertheless great question 👍🏾

    Unfortunately it has many issues as well. 1. You really have to keep the midi file in the EZbass program. I like to have all my tracks where I can see them in my DAW. But if you're using EZbass and have inflections, slaps and slides in your track and then bring that midi file into your DAW, you lose all those inflections. The DAWs can't identify that midi code. 2. If you leave the EZbass midi track in its own program, any changes you make to your DAW (ie time changes, added or subtracted measures), won't show up in the scroll of the EZbass program. You have to manually go into the EZbass program and fix it. Not much of a time saver. 3. Inserting a midi file, other than another Toontrack midi file, will make the EZbass program uncertain of what kind of file it is. For example, if you put in a keyboard midi file (whole notes, quarter notes, etc.) the program will ask what part of the drum do you want to follow. It can't identify the roll of the midi file. 4. The audio to midi is fine if it's a one note at a time line. But if you add chords (especially complex chords) the EZbass program is way off. You'll get some strange random bass line. So there are some big deficiencies in this program. Hopefully Toontrack will fix these issues in later updates.

      @@SoundkandyStudio Hi, thanks for the vid. For me IK Multimedia's Modo Bass is sonically better - there aren't the range of editing options but until Toontrack sort these issues I'm not sure EZBass is that much of a time saver. I've been having issues with it too. Using the Drums & Keys Option it should be possible to use drum midi to produce the timing and keys midi to produce the key changes - i.e. produce a whole file that locks into the drums and follows the key changes. I have tried this with a whole song and could not get it to work. Haven't tried the audio to midi yet but if it works well it would be really useful. Anyway, keep up the good work:o)

      @@SoundkandyStudio Yes, its a fantastic concept and would be perfect for me if it worked well. If they can get these issues sorted it would be my go to. Modo bass has far more control over the sound and caters for a much broader style of music but its limitations are with the articulations. A plugin that could do both would be awesome but I suppose we tend to take for granted just how good this technology is getting. Its mind blowing how this stuff is just getting exponentially better and better. I've just put out my second album which was recorded at home but sounds like it was recorded with a full band in an analogue studio. This just wouldn't have been possible 10 years ago!

    • @SoundkandyStudio
      @SoundkandyStudio  4 года назад +1

      @Loz Rabone I fully agree with you sentiments, music technology has certainly reached the point whereby it’s almost impossible to distinguish samples. I guess its because many sample have been recorded in high end studio meticulously. Not to mention the costs of sample libraries! Due to the competitive nature of the business over the past few years we’ve seen a massive reduction in costs to customers. I guess on the flip side, artists/musicians and producers getting paid a lot less for there work. We live in interesting time…

    nice review of the plugin! Do you know if there is a way to fix this like changing something in the settings? It seems as if the notes would get "exhausted" from being played without a break

    • @SoundkandyStudio
      @SoundkandyStudio  3 года назад +2

      I think I understand. If I do understand in sounds like a “resource” issue. By resource I mean CPU memory. It sounds as if samples are being killed.
      In your DAW try increasing the “device block size” if you’re “tracking” 512 or lower is normally fine, if you’re mixing it may be better to increase the size due to the plugins you’ve loaded. Note: data block size can impact how much data can be stored on a disc or drive-the larger the block size, the more space is wasted.
