I went from a Catholic, to an nihiliistic atheist, to a Stoic, back to a Catholic. There is a lot of overlap between Catholicism and Stocism, however, Stoicism alone is very empty. We need Jesus.

Do you think perhaps Fr. Bonaventure was trying to get at that specific place where one ends and the other begins and our outlook is what continues the trajectory from there?
Just curious. They went live at 3am and well, I realize it's part of the Dominican life and I'm eternally grateful, but Fr. Bonaventure is especially prone to unnecessary use of words when stressing to make a point.
My parents had an extensive home library. I was a precocious reader and read "The Dumb Ox" by Chesterton when I was about 10 and fell in love with St. Thomas. Not too long after, I found a copy of Marcus Aurelias and started reading him. I went to Catholic school and had a somewhat Stoical upbringing anyway. Definitely not an indulgent one, despite having well off parents. Somehow those two volumes formed syntheses in my young mind and this continues to this day as I approach my 78th birthday.
Edit: As I finished listening, I seem to be a Thomistic Stoic.

I think Stoicism also really struggles with the "other", it is too internally focused to go outside itself to love its neighbor, again the lack of a relationship to the logos
I found a blanket on my couch this morning after a hospital stay. I do not need the blanket but I glanced to my right and recognized it as God letting me ask for His divine mercy.
I heard the message rephrase as the 3 basic struggles we all face throughout our lifetimes: Man vs. Man, Man vs. Himself and Man vs. Nature. There is always an intrinsic "other", no?
That's where I personally hear His voice most: the "in-between's", lol. God never has a backup sandwich 🥪.
Stocism without God does, but Stocism with God is just the opposite. It makes us deal with our struggles and instead of getting into an entitlement mindset and focusing on "me" and my needs and what I "deserves" it lets us look beyond to why is this happening and maybe there is a larger reason. I have not had the easist life but if I kept saying "it's not fair" I would become bitter and resentful and while we like to say we're bitter about a person, but in reality, bitterness is ALWAYS aimed at God and our anger at him for the bad things that happen.
