@Murry25 HI, you should just be able to hold the inner tube with one hand (so that you do not disturb it to much), and twist and pull on the outer one with the the other hand. It should break free for you.Hope this helps.

You will most like be required to have the vehicle pressure tested and smoked to see exactly where the leak is before the mechanic can say for certain that the fuel filler neck is the issue.

Been thinking about changing mine. I think it's got some kinda anti syphon set up on it. I can only put the fuel nozzle in about 2 inches when filling up. Gas always sprays out the top around the fuel nozzle and hits me sometimes.
I was looking around on your website but couldn't find a fuel rank for my 93 ranger as I suspect the upper seam may have cracked as well. Any idea where I could get one? Thanks - Alex

my '02 ranger seems to have a severe gas leak. Gas was gushing out as I was filling it up this evening. It was coming from the line above the gas tank. Do you have replacement parts for an 02' ranger?

do you have any tricks to attach a new fuel filler neck "rubber hose"... it's ridiculously tight. The inside diameter of the hose is 1.75" and the pipe it attaches to, seems to be almost a 1/4" larger... nearly impossible. I was able to boil 1 end and fought like hell, but got it on...now the last attachment is even more difficult because it's the last piece to go on... I'm considering getting a 2" hose (larger) , and clamping good and tight...suggestions ?

So I noticed two cracks in the plastic hose that the filler neck clamps into under my 97 ranger. There is a fuel trail from there towards the tank. Does that mean there is some other problem for fuel to leaking out of the hose when I put gas in?

How much did you pull on the inner tube?? I've removed mine and the inner tube is about two inches from the outer tube. So..how much can I yank on the inner tube w/o pulling it out on the other end??? BTW I ordered the part...super fast shipping! THX
If anyone at A1 is still monitoring these videos - I have a 97 that I got from one of my sons, *where he already did do the filler neck replacement*. A few problems still seem to be present: 1) when filling the tank, I have to stop probably every minute - the pump trips off and I get gas liquid "blowback" at the filler nozzle point, spraying gas back up at me. It's like there's no vent mechanism in the tank. Also #2 If I do a complete fill of the tank, I end up smelling fresh gas when I drive - it goes away as I burn thru the fuel in the tank (to about the 1/2 way point). Perhaps the root of my problem lies in the tank - either a crack in the upper half somewhere (causing me to lose fuel) and/or but also possibly a clogged tank fume vent..... Its a 23 year old California (all it's life) truck. Need some experienced techs here to respond, or A1 guys to give me their opinion. thanks

Several years ago my 94 ranger had this problem. The ford dealer charged me $700 for a while new gas tank. Now it has started again. This should be a recall item on the truck.
My '93 Ranger leaks a decent amount of fuel when filling up, but after that initial leak, everything seems to be fine. I hope it's just the neck and not the tube, so I can hopefully replace it myself.

@notrohman It would probably be easier to drop the tank. I would burn off as much gas as possible first so that it's lighter when you take it out.
If there's a leak in the filler tube you should replace it.

You should have the code scanned to see what the error is that's tripping the light. that should help point you in a direction.
There may be only a few bolts that hold it in place.

You might want to have a qualified garage take a look at if for you, so that they can see what's going on with it and narrow it down for you.
You may want to check the fuel filler neck, it's a common thing to go bad.

It could be a bad sending unit in the gas tank.
You should not have to remove the bed to access the filer neck to remove it.

I got a leak exactly where the filler neck and hose meet, i dont know if its the hose or the neck maybe i should try tightening the clamp
