    That prince is very lucky he didn't die and that he was able to make it back to the castle with his beloved. there are lots of other stories like this but their endings aren't as happy. because one the person left and realized that they had been gone for such a long time, they were never able to make their way back to their beloveds.

    Reminds me of the Japanese tale of Urashimataro. A boy did a good service to the queen of the sea by releasing a sea turtle from captivity. As a reward, he was allowed to come to her palace and marry the princess Otohime; after a while, he grew lonesome and wanted to see his family. Otohime gave him a magic box to keep with him while up on land, and when he returned, he found that 300 years had gone by though it seemed only 30 beneath the waves. Out of despair, and curiosity, he opened the box and all 300 years came upon him at once so that he died instantly, an old man.

      I'm from Ireland & there is a similar story with an ending pretty much the same, the story is called Tír na Nóg, the land of youth. The main characters are Oisín (Little Fawn), the son of Finn Mac Cumhaill the famous Irish Warrior & the Celtic Deer Goddess Sadhv & Princess Niamh Cinn Óir (Golden Hair) of Tír na Nóg. When Oisín wanted to visit his family back in Ireland his wife Niamh gave him a magic white horse & advised him never to dismount under any circumstance. He goes back to Ireland only to discover that 1 day in Tír na Nóg is 1 year in Ireland & he had been away for 300 years! Travelling through a town he encounters some people trying to move a heavy boulder & he offers to help them, however when he reached down & lifted the heavy boulder the saddle's girth broke & he fell on the ground. The horse disappeared & Oisín turned into an old man, he died hours later from old age. In 1 version of the tale, Oisín learns of a new religion (Christianity) & St. Patrick himself gives Oisín his final rites on his deathbed.

    this story is sooo wholesome and unique in so many levels.
    The world after 3000 years has a pretty realistic scene for that time.
    In this story, it's actually the female lead who saves the male lead and the plot twist is great. The fact that she challenged death is also awesome.
    Aaand most importantly, this story has a happy ending.

    Reminds me of a Georgian tale my my mom used to tell me, a young man whose father died when he was a child, decided to leave his mother to find a place where he could live forever, because he feared death. He found a beautiful castle made of glass, and inside there was a beautiful maid with pale skin, black hair and peachy cheeks who never got old. She told him to stay in the castle and live with her forever. The man happily agreed as he had fallen in love with the woman. Many years went by, he missed his mother, his home. He told the woman he wanted to leave, to return home. The woman told him he would become mortal again as soon as hed leave the palace, but the man missed his mother so much that he didnt change his mind. Then the woman gave him 3 apples and told him, once you eat all three of them, you'll die. The boy left the castle and returned to his hometown only to find that everyone he knew died a long time ago, and only one old man had heard of his family. The old man told him about a mother who lived a while ago and who cried and searched for his only son all her life. Full of regret, the young man visited the ruins of his old house, became very sad and felt that the earth was calling him. He ate the last apple and died. As all living things, he returned to the cycle of life and became part of the earth.

    I knew of a similiar tale, or another version of this one, only with a darker twist at the end.
    I can't remember all the details, but the prince went looking for immortality like in this one, only that on the road he met some men that offered him alternatives. There were at least three, with one who was trying to fell a whole forest, one trying to dry a lake/sea, another trying to take down a mountain with a pickaxe, but all of them said "stay with me and help me with my task, and we will both live until we're done."
    The prince refused, because he wanted to live forever, not just centuries, and actually found a land where he could do so, but then he wanted to go back to his kingdom, and was sent there on a horse that he should NEVER dismount, or the Reaper would find him. He actually passed a mound of rocks (the mountain), a desert (the lake) and a grassland (the forest) on the way back, but still found out that centuries had passed, like in this version. However, on the way back he met an old man, pleading for help with a broken wheelbarrow. In the end the prince agreed and dismounted from the horse, but the old man grabbed him with a cackle and the prince instantly died, for he was the Reaper, and he had been looking for him for a long time...

  • @alexandrad.1768

    In Romania we have a similar tale, in which the prince went searching for immortality and he traveled by magic horse, and battled monsters in the magic forest, finally reaching a house in which lived 3 fairies. He lived happily with them for a while, but one day, while he was hunting, he suddenly felt the urge to go home and he did, but he died as soon as he entered the castle ruins, as hundreds of years had passed.

Next day Jesus himself invited him to celestial wedding feast, where je stayed overnight. In the morning he didn't recognized his village, so the man went to the church (for churches stays the same all the time) asking priests what happened. They found out he Is the man that went missing 500 years ago and at the moment the poor man died.

    This was my favorite one.
    It isn't clear-cut with immortality being good or bad; the Prince discovered a land of immortality and married it's Queen, but he never got to see his parents again and when he returned he discovered that the world had forgotten him and his Kingdom. When Death came he still chose immortality.
    I especially liked the art when he returned to his hometown after 3000 years, the way the people and society was futuristic. Even if nobody remembered his father, the Prince could have tried finding a scholar or a historian (who might at least know who his father was).
    Personally I think being immortal would be a good thing. A lot of stories talk about how we should appreciate death, but that's just because we don't have a choice. Death is preceded by fear and leaves anguish in it's wake, the sooner we get rid of it the better. Look up "The Fable of The Dragon-Tyrant" to see what I mean.

    • @Dracomut
      @Dracomut 5 лет назад +6

      An intriguing idea, but ultimately flawed I think. Immortality really would being nothing but trouble, for not everyone can be immortal. You would live all your days being lonely due to eventually outliving your loved ones, a lifestyle that would run you down and drive you mad. Plus there are countless other fairy tales that discuss other horrors that immortality on this world bring, the story of "The Soldier and Death" in particular takes a good look at this. Furthermore death itself is not at all wicked, only those who have been sinful fear it and only those who cannot accept sadness are anguished by it. Death is a neutral force that humans have demonized as it is something they cannot understand. Death is in fact a release for many, like the old who cannot go on. Plus you really don't have anything to fear from death when Heaven is your destination.
      The only way to get rid of death is for everything else to die, then death itself will die.

      @Kyi12300 If I could have a way to be Immortal I would use it instantly, simply because I don't stand the idea of not knowing what'll happen in the future of mankind.

    • @evilsharkey8954
      @evilsharkey8954 5 лет назад

      Immortality would become really lonely as the Earth and sun age and die, followed, after uncountable eons, by the heat death of the universe. If you want to see what happens to humanity, wish for a time machine that only goes forward, instead. It probably won’t turn out as well as it did in Futurama.

    On further reflection, I think this folk tale is an allegory for Christianity. Foreverland is a stand-in for Heaven, and the Queen of Foreverland is the Mother Church. He reaches them both with the help of bread, the Queen welcomes him with open arms. The Queen discourages him from leaving her, but won't hold him prisoner. When he leaves her the Grim Reaper threatens him, but the Queen takes him back and protects him.

    This story is really similar to the romanian folk tale "Tinerețe fără bătrânețe și viață fără de moarte" (Youth without old age and life without death) tough our tale is more tragic. The main differences are that the prince has a magic horse, he battles with 2 witches and when he comes back he does find the ruins of his father's castle, and death comes out from the throne, saying "Finally you've come. If you stayed any longer, even I would've died" and then he takes his life.

    I know a different story that have some resembles. A young man left his home in search of immortality. He came upon a man who was cutting wood in the forest. He explained his desire and the man told him that he can stay with him, he need to chop every tree so he can die. But the man wants immortality so he keeps looking till he finds a Rocky landscape with a man moving rocks. They talks and the man explained that he need to remove all the rocks from the valley so he can die. The man left again later finds a big see and a man taking water buckets. They chat and he explained that in order to die he need to dry the see. Again the man leaves and he finds a castle made of jewels. Inside a woman who says that here he won't die. The man marry her. Eons passed fast. Until he decides to come back home to see what have changed. His wife agreed, only rule is to never get off of his horse. The man went out. Seeing a forest only of stumps, a valley with no a single stone and a crater (the dried see) he finds his hometown ruined and his house merely a pile of rubbish. Than he hears a plea for help. In a distance an old man stuck with his cart in deep mud and the cart full of worn old shoes. Begging for the man's help. If he won't get out he is sure to die. So the man get off of his horse and at that moment the old man catches him and says : do you know who I am? I am death! And I've been searching you for eons! Finally we meet! And so the man finally dies.

    I have also heard of a similar story. But it is a bit different, the guy was a poor fisherman and he had found a rare pearl. He then returned it to a mermaid. Afterwards, he married her and she gave him the pearl in a box or something like a oval container as a token of promise, and so that he may return to the sea. He stayed with her for 3 days, then he wanted to show-off the pearl to everyone, so he returned to the surface, the land but only to find 300 years had passed. He began to age so he tried to return to the sea, but he somehow lost the pearl in the sea. Afterwards, he could no longer return to the mermaid because he no longer had the pearl. I think it was a story to teach us as kids, of pride and being humble. I believed it was called 'the pearl'.

    The eyes of the king portray him like a mountain. Something old and majestic, who has seen many ages pass
    This story could have easily ended in tragedy for the young prince, but theres a pattern of him persevering and striving forward towards these impossible goals, against the better judgments of those around him. He tells them he will not be stopped, and they let him go with their blessing and aid. And he succeeds

    This is similar to some folktales in some other countries wherein the protagonist stayed in a magical place not knowing that he lived there for more than a century.
    The only difference with this one is that there is a flying vehicle and a 300-year old living person @4:00 who never heard of the protagonist's father...BECAUSE HE NEVER TOLD THE FATHER'S NAME IN THE FIRST PLACE!
    But, come to think about it, this is the only story I know that the ending for the protagonists is that they really live happily ever after.

    reminds me of another story i read, its almost the same as this one just without the iron gates and the magic shoes. instead the queen gave the guy a horse and said that if he goes back and his feet touch the ground he would instantly die. he got to his homeland there were some people struggling to remove some boulders and they asked him to help them. he forgot the warning and went to help them and as soon as his feet touch the ground he aged rapidly and died on the spot.
    i forgot the story name but it should be similar i guess, this story ending is happier so maybe i like it better. also the queen in this story is a legend, threatening to kill death himself? ultimate power move.
