Dude, you make a huge mistake, Final Fantasy Adventure is not a Final Fantasy, is actually a Mana game called Mystic Quest. For some reason the game was called Final Fantasy Adventure in the USA while it was called Mystic Quest in Europe. Its original name is Seiken Densetsu. The mistake is understable but still you should check out more before doing a recommendation video. That´s all. Have a nice day!

Well Dissidia is just awesome to me. You get this diverse cast of characters duking it out with explosions everwhere with a cool RPG system built into it. It's got great casual appeal for an arena fighter. I spent like 120 hours in the og Dissidia.
My thoughts on the other FFs are as follows
      1. FFVII and FFIX are damn near perfect
      2. FFX is great but feels very linear in terms of leveling on the normal Spehere Grid
      3. FFXV is pretty good but it misses a lot of marks
      4. FFXIII has great concpets and characters executed poorly due to an unclear lore (that isnt explained until the sequels). But end game gameplay is really really fun
      5. FFVIII and FFIII I'm not very fond of. I think FFIII has a lot of heart but I'm not crazy about it. FFVIII... did not appeal to me in story or gameplay. But I like the world.

Uhhhhhhhhhh, what? FFX doesn't deliver the "standard FF experience". Like, in any way. It was criticized at the time, and still is, for changing the formula DRASTICALLY. Namely, it was a super linear hallway simulator with a heavy emphasis on cutscenes and barely any sidequests.
Maybe you meant IX? That's a good one to start with if you want the standard FF experience, at least as far as the 3D games go. For the classic formula, go with I or IV.

@@bluster9669 I think by standard they meant without the more open bells and whistles of other games, making it more simple to sit down and power through the story without being concerned about where to go and what to do until late game. It's totally accessible if flawed due to it's lack of freedom early on and it's late game openess. Similarly, that same lack of early freedom is why fans either adore or feel middlingly to it! That's arguably why so many cite it as their favourite or least favourite 3D FF. But for me I agree with you on IX being the best place to start! Pretty straightforward and with a mild difficulty curve alongside a easy to understand battle system, although X is my all time favourite.

FFIX is my first Final Fantasy... and my absolute favorite game... ever
It will always be perfect, replaying it time and time again just cements how much it means to me.
Incredible characters, beautiful atmosphere, great plot, a villain you love to hate and empathize with at the end, an open ended ending that caps off the characters struggles while leaving room to continue, and easily the best soundtrack in a game ever (battle 1 is so hype, boss theme makes you know your in danger, Over Those Hills is relaxing and perfect for getting in the mood to explore, Kuja’s theme is the best villain theme ever made in a game, and You’re not Alone tears your heart out just to name a few).
Yes it’s a bit slow for a game if battle was sped up a bit between waits it would be better maybe (although there is an option in the setting to speed up atb)... but since you are already dead set on playing a JRPG which are notorious for being slow, you know what you got yourself into.
It’s a shame it’s overshadowed by 7 and 10 cause no one talks about 9 ever... 10 is great and all and 7 is a mess, but 9 is never given a chance. 9 was made as a celebration of the series and the definitive, truest version of the series... and Uematsu’s final time composing so he went out with a bang.
I personally would always recommend 9 (in its entirety) and 10 (skipping the celestial weapons) as a starting place for newcomers... how much I would give for a sequel or remaster for 9, Dormamu I’ve come to bargain!

I'd say IV is a good starting point for those who're new to RPGs in general. You get to try out a bunch of different jobs and party setups without having to worry about choosing the right party for tough encounters since your party is tied to story progression.
That said, if you've played other RPGs and want gameplay customizability and a satisfying difficulty curve that'll hook you, V is your game, tough as it may be. It works especially well for first timers since the game doesn't punish you for experimenting with classes (say, if you've no idea what a dancer is supposed to do, only to ditch it hours later because it didn't strike your fancy) thanks to the way your stats shuffle around to match your current occupation the moment you equip it. You also don't need to grind to beat the game as long as you're willing to experiment with your party setup whenever you hit a wall since the jobs come with their most essential skills and stats right off the bat, which is always a plus if you prefer to keep moving forward.

I remember watching my friends playing FF VIII (I'm not a big fan of FF, but I enjoyed watching it). Taking aside the fact that they spent 3-4 hours in that GOD-FORSAKING card game, what I realized (especially later, when I gave it a shot) is that the whole Junction system makes all the characters the same. Squall can have 100 Firagas on strength, but when the game forces You to change characters, you can detach those 100 Firagas and gave them to someone else. That way, characters (at least to me) didn't felt quite Unique. They all had the same stats, they all could use the same Magic (that was also very odd; the fact that all the characters were Magic casters). The only thing separating them were their Limit Breaks.
Also, stealing magics (which can take quite a while) buffed your character very early on. Even with magic like Scan, using Junction allowed you to be a powerhouse even before entering Ifrit's Cave.

I started my journey last year. I started chronologically with I and just finished III.
I'm super hyped about the next games and I'm glad I went through the first ones... first.
The first one I played 2 times in a row using every job. The second one was very intriguing and had some moments that were burned in my brain, so generally I liked. It's my favorite cast of characters including NPCs and villains from the first 3. And the third one was a total blast. It was only hold back by the last dungeon (bullshit tower and dipshit world) and the times it kinda forced you to use specific jobs or fricking MINI every damn time. But it was a nice game.
If I have to pick a favorite, it's the first one. It's not as rich and fun as 3 (sometimes), but it's more well rounded and very good and fun from start to finish.
Oh and I didn't grind. The only moment I felt it was necessary and did it a LITTLE was in the dark world, last dungeon of III. Maybe one magic or two from II. But that was it.
And I'm really excited to start playing IV.

Maybe I'm biased because 9 is my favorite (okay well actually, Tactics is my favorite, but 9 is my favorite numbered title) but I actually think that's a great place to start (also biased because it's where I started) but since the entire point of 9 was for each character to represent one of the classic jobs that stemmed from Final Fantasy in the first place and be sort of a soft reboot, I think it's a great place to jump in.

  • @hurotiz

I consider final fantasy 12 as a story being told from an outsiders perspective, the main characters are indeed Basch and Ash, though I wouldn't consider Balthier as the main character even if he is the main man. You play as Vaan who kind of exists outside the plot as an observer who sort of tags along and makes trouble for the party, and of course the playable character had to have a main squeeze so they added our black mage goddess Penelo in there. Vaan kind of acts as a plot device to introduce the player to the game world and to bring the other characters together, he does this by bumbling his way through the storyline until everything sort of collides and people are forced to work together to get things done. But wait, why would you play as Vaan as soon as you have enough party members to get rid of him? You give him the best overall stats, that's how. This guy is by far the most overpowered character as he can do anything well, and has one of the fastest attack animations to boot. All of this was made possible because Square was afraid that having an older character be the main character wouldn't resonate with their audience... sigh, ff12 was too before its time. If it had come out 6 years later then the story could have been halfway decent, but it needs a meh sequel to give us the entire story and make sense of things. But it's not a bad game and I loved the Gambit battle system, the story isn't a total wash, it just would make more sense if they had written it around Basch like they were going to do originally. But its very fun, the visuals are awesome and customization is incredible. It's still one of my top 5 Final fantasies: 1. FF9 - 2. FF6 - 3. FF7 - 4. FF10 - 5. FF12 (I love you FF8, your a wonderful love story but not an amazing final fantasy)

The game has a fairly enjoyable combat system that likes to workaround the "unbeatable boss" limitations with its combat gimmicks and wide variety of playstyles, however it is hard limited by the multiplayer handheld aspect, meaning a story centering around 14 main characters feels rather shallow and the lack of multiplayer hampers its replayability. Here in Brazil it was kinda hard to get RPGs in the 16bit era. Carts were super expensive, and pirated games didn't save your progress... So when I rented Mystic Quest and finished with my brother in 3 days, it felt great! We didn't have a clue about the approach Japan had with the western market (I was 8 at the time, so whatever). I still think it was a great game to start with RPGs in general, and that motivated me to learn english too. Finally, great video Austin, you seem like a very nice guy!

Here, they translated it from the English version, not from the original one, so we have all the mistakes from the english one, plus a whole new lot we created ourselves (like, they translated the materia Preemptive as pre empty, or they kept using the word party for their different meanings , which in spanish are different words)

    for those looking for the classic ff11 experience, check out the private server: { Eden FFXI }
it's a classic experience with the level cap being 75. This private server is a work in progress, but will go up to the end of ToAU. This server aims to be as era accurate as possible, with minimum QoL improvements. The few QoL improvements added include mog wardrobe 1+2, making inventory management a breeze. It is also the best private server to currently play on, as it has the fewest issues and bugs, has the most working content, and is constantly adding and improving the game. The dev team is very active, and is about to release the remainder of the CoP missions and Sea. A lot of, if not all notorious monsters are available for every area, as long as they were a part of this era of the game. Anything found in WoTG expansion and beyond won't be available, ever.
Currently playable endgame: Dynamis, Sky, BCNM (Some), ENM (Some), HNM
Planned endgame content: Sea, Limbus, Nyzul Isle, Assault, Einherjar, Salvage, ZNM

    V. IMO, the fifth chapter is the best to start with; the early parts of the game introduce you to grind, but right after that, you became open to the possibilities and the customizations
there is no wrong way to play V (aside from not having a designated healer) and there are MANY possibilities; the missables are not really worth loosing sleep over, and in the remakes you can get to them anyway in the postgame; the story is mostly light with some surprisingly hard hitting moments; and most of the mechanics are quick to comprehend

    I think:
Start with 6 or 4 because it provides the most all encompassing classic FF formula with classic graphics and is a good baseline.
Then go to 7 because it’s the updated version of the classic 2D formula with better graphics.
Then go to 8 because now you’re familiar with the classics and are now ready to deviate from what has been cemented in your mind as typical.
Then go to 5 because now you’ve seen the spectrum and will appreciate everything 5 has to offer and the feelz will overcome any graphical disparities you might feel from going back to 2D.
Then go play any of the previous 2D ones if you want because the graphics won’t bother you.
Then play 9 because now you’re ready to appreciate the penultimate version of the classic FF formula.
    Then go play the others.

Played the Kingdom Hearts games and loved them so much but wanted something new, so I asked my parents about Final Fantasy. Got Crisis Core for Christmas that year and was hooked on 7's story, and later Final Fantasy as a whole. Crisis Core was a perfect starting point for me, since it had a combat system that wasn't too different from KH, familiar character and a definite anime inspired style. It was just what I, as an individual, finally needed to really get into the series.
