    This is an amp that Mesa Boogie has needed to introduce for a very long time. New sound and a new look without venturing too far from what they are known for. This amp sounds incredible. Great demo.

    I just got this amp last week. To be fair I’m still in the honeymoon phase but so far I’m impressed by it. Still getting used to it. It’s got a great clean and overdriven sound. Takes pedals well too. Thank you Mesa Boogie for making such a great amp.

      Can the sweet spots be reached at small club volume or is it a loud monster ?

    • @suspect3539
      @suspect3539 8 месяцев назад +1

      @@warnistt For me, the master volume is very transparent so you can get great tones are reasonable volume. At 50 watts, its definitely loud so don't expect bedroom level practice, but I use mine to for practice in a small rec room in my basement and I'm able to get great sounds without my ears bleeding or my neighbors hating me. Note that the half power switch does not correlate to half volume. It reduces the volume a bit, but it's more for changing the feel/response than it is for dropping the volume way down. Also, they changed the labelling on the 50w/25w switch since technically, the clean channel is ~40w and the Drive/Hi is ~60w (according to the Mesa website) likely as a result of the extra gain stage in the preamp when in Drive/Hi modes.

      FWIW, I find even the "Clean" channel of my F-50 has too much gain, so I run 12AU7 (gain = 19) tubes in V1 & V2, rather than the stock 12AX7s (gain = 100). Which, you know, is some thing you can do to any amp to tame its gain. 19^4= 130K, 100^4 = 100M

    • @KateLynnBeatty
      @KateLynnBeatty 6 лет назад +1

      I have used on other amps the 12AT's....which i think are around the 70% gain....with the 12AU's you need to use them on a 50W plus amp or you can loose too much volume....just my opinion....isn't it great to have the options at our fingertips

    • @JazzzRockFuzion
      @JazzzRockFuzion 6 лет назад +5

      @@capitanvonchickenpants8492 It's definitely not for everyone. The two things people seem to dislike about the Studio:
      1) Shared Gain knob & tone stacks between the Rhythm & Lead Channels
      2) Hard to 'dial in'.
      I tend to like darker, warmer tones for both my clean and distortion; personally, I was able to quickly get a round, wooly "fusion" tone from the lead channel without the clean being muddy, so the shared EQ doesn't bug me at all. Being a small, open-back 1x12 enclosure, it's definitely more mid-range forward in general (which I'd also great for my preferences).
      I dunno - it's lightweight, rugged, super portable, very loud, versatile and highly affordable. As far as vintage tube combos go, I think the Studio .22 is a real hidden gem.

      A nice Fuzz pedal on the clean channel.....or a mild boost/OD for pushing the "Drive & Hi" channels over the top would be the only gain pedals I would use with the Fillmore...... Randall & Co refined some pretty bitchin sounds under the hood.... Using medium to hi- gain pedals would seem a huge disservice to what's already on tap.

    Would be nice a 20/10 watts combo, with all the features included on this Filmore 50. And with a CLEANER CLEAN, not overly bright, shrill and metallic like VOX or some Fender. On this video I still can hear distortion with the "clean" channel. I don't know, maybe it's because the guys still used some gain. Would be nice to hear 3 separate and complete videos: CLEAN (without and with pedals), drive (without and with pedals) and hi gain. Thank you!

      This Fillmore, the Tweed, and Lonestar all have amazing cleans. They have a bio up, they never meant to make the metal amp, it was a byproduct of great clean circuitry that just got beautifully built on. People do think of the rectifier and that metal treadplate when thinking of boogie yes, because it's so dominant in rock and metal, (and a lot of fun to play). But they started like a lot of brands, modding fender amps for more. Check out they're lineup sometime. As a clean player myself, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. Good luck. Rock on

    I like what mesa did on this amp. Despite this model came much simpler than other models, i believe that this Filmore still has many switches. Why not to simplify much more the circuit? Like the previous F50 model, really beautiful sounding amp and damm simple to use. Much More stable circuit (from simplicity point of View).
    Mesa unlike other amp builders, has the tone!!! Why not to get rid of unnecessary whistles.

    I'm interested in this amp primarily because I prefer simpler, lower gain amps, and I current play an early F-50 combo. Why do all the examples here sound so *muddy*? From the tube chart in the owner's manual, I see you've made both the fx loop and the reverb tube-driven, plus an adjustable negative feedback Presence control, which is very welcome. But, you've also eliminated the Contour feature. I think the kicker though is, the addition of the triode/pentode mode switch, which I really wish I had on my F-50.

    • @mesaboogie
      @mesaboogie  6 лет назад +1

      Hi Gemma - Thanks for the kind words and your enthusiasm for the Fillmore 50! Regarding your comment about the samples being muddy, I have some thoughts... and a genuine question. The question first... Do you have any links to videos/demos (hopefully somewhat comparable tonally and circuit-wise) that you believe is NOT muddy and/or good example(s) of the tone(s) you would expect to hear?
      I'm also interested to know what your reference listening system is... headphones, studio monitors, earbuds? We take a great deal of care and pride in delivering demo audio that is a) reflects the sound of the amp -as accurately as possible- as it sounded in the room when captured, b) not hyped or overly 'engineered', and c) essentially not post-processed or EQ'd except for output optimization ('mastering') for optimal RUclips levels, etc. We seek a final output that reflects a balanced response over the massive array of listening devices ( from earbuds to full-on, legitimate studio monitoring) and we DON'T seek 'slick' production or anything outside the reality of what was captured. As we often shoot with no less than 3 cameras, we have a set of on-camera stereo mics that 'surround' the capture and serve as a reference for the general room tone. That audio is frequently referenced while we determine our mix of a dedicated stereo room mic that we add to taste (generally 10-15%) to the pair of close mics that we almost always end up with a 50/50 or 45/55 blend of a Shure SM57 and Shure KSM313. Some people may expect to either hear commercially 'polished' (read: Bright) mixes, or 'hyped' mixes with boosted bass, punch and highs - mixing that often aligns with how commercial music is most often finished and/or what is proven to be what the human ear tends to find more inviting/pleasing. One specific thing we don't seek in our demos are tones that are especially bright. Our observation is that most people to seem to understand that if they want a sound to be brighter than what they hear, they will dial in Treble AND Presence controls -higher- to achieve the amount of brightness they want. OTOH, when the sound is bright/harsh, demo listeners and commenters 'label' the AMP as being inherently bright (undesirable), disregarding that there are Treble and Presence controls to adjust (lower) for their perceived preference, beyond the other variables in play like guitars, pickups, techniques, styles, FX, attack, etc. We're not specifically trying to make demos dark, but we're sensitive to making stuff sound harsh as people seem less able to "do the math" when tones lean bright. The Fillmore 50 is by no means a muddy amp and we would hope that it would be obvious that TWO high frequency controls of any amp should allow one to dial in brightness to taste, especially given our track record for making amps with "controls that work". Unfortunately, settings and dialing to taste rarely seems to be bought up in comment streams and discussions versus just, "too much of something or not enough of something else". Perhaps our leaning toward warm is what your describing as muddy? Bottom line - there's a million ways to make an amplifier demo and a million ways that people would seemingly prefer a demo to be made... If there were a surefire way of doing online sound demos, everyone would be doing it that way. But - it's sound, and it's DEEPLY subjective and also highly subject to a thousand outside listening variables after uploading and another thousand or so in the capture process. Despite doing our best, it's probably impossible to please everyone (or even a slight majority), but this is our process at the moment, subject to refinement and change as we learn more about what helps people make important musical instrument choices in a medium that attempts to stuff a dynamic and highly personalized three-dimensional audio experience into a linear, highly variable and barely two-dimensional tunnel of a listeners available listening tools and subjective preferences. Thanks for reading and genuinely interested in your thoughts and any examples you might share that reflect what you think a great demo sounds like. Hope this helps!

    I liked it enough to trade in a half-stack for one. My back is getting old, what can I say? When putting it through more intense paces at home, I found the MC90 speaker really harsh at higher volumes. Down on the floor with a plexiglass screen in front of it helped, but on a stand pointed at the back of my head was brutal. I swapped out the speaker for a Cannabis Rex, and it was a huge difference. I could actually turn the treble knob past noon and find some nicer tones. It doesn't project to the sides as well, but looking straight into the speaker is much better. The unfortunate aspect of the swap was that I had to remove the reverb tank to make space for the deeper speaker. But, my pedal board has a reverb that works well up front, or going into the effects loop. I've been experimenting with other speakers through an extension cab, without any super satisfying results. About the only thing I haven't tried is a Mesa Fillmore 75 speaker, since I don't have one. The experimentation will continue...I do recommend trying a Cannabis Rex, though. As the demo shows, proper mic selection, placement and post EQ makes this a very versatile amp with the MC90. Plenty of power, nicely designed and laid out. My back is much happier, my ears are still searching. Likely scenario is going back to the MC90 on floor isolators and plexiglass deflector. Seems to fill the room with a broader frequency spectrum in a band rehearsal/live gig scenario.

    I've got a Lonestar 100 loaded with EL-34's and a Mark V:25 so I'm just not in the market for this fine amp. Too bad, it sounds great. Mesa Rules~!

    • @jeashleyiii
      @jeashleyiii 6 лет назад

      How do you think their cleans compare? Also a Lonestar owner here :D trying to justify keeping or selling ... need to play one lol

    • @spyderlogan4992
      @spyderlogan4992 6 лет назад

      Of course this is subjective: The "Clean" pre-amp setting on the Mark V:25 is really great, but I run it on 'Fat'. Either way, give it some gas and this little Mesa head shines. The Lonestar Channel 1, 100 watt setting is loud, clean and beefy. Between them, if you can't get a great sound from guitar, cord and amp, you're not trying hard enough, in my opinion. I don't have any boost, distortion or overdrive pedals(all sold) because both Mesas fill the bill for me and I don't have physical room or the budget for a 3rd amp.

    • @jeashleyiii
      @jeashleyiii 6 лет назад

      Right on, have you played the Fillmore 50? Curious to get your opinion on how it compares to the Lonestar 100W cleans... thanks for the feedback :D

    • @spyderlogan4992
      @spyderlogan4992 6 лет назад

      There's not dealer around here that has them. But here's the deal...If I want 50 watts I switch the Lonestar down to 50 and run 'Tweed' mode. If I want 25 watts, I just crank the crap out of the Mark V:25. Plus I don't need two channels. If this was a single channel amp with less circuitry then I'd consider, but that's not what Mesa does, do they? For me, the Lonestar running 100 watts is the ultimate for the money for my style and volumes.

    • @jeashleyiii
      @jeashleyiii 6 лет назад

      I've been trying to get a Fillmore 50 tone out of my Lonestar at 50W... get's most of the way there on it's own. I've actually come to realize the Lonestar shines by itself although it does take pedals very well... a circular journey but it's been a fun one. lol

  • @donofly

    I have the 50 watt head. Has anyone had problems with the reverb doing strangs, like not working, or the reverb on the right channel changing the volume, instead of reverb? Also have had both channels set at 12 o' clock on all knobs, but one side sounds compressed/muffled while the other is bright and clearer? HELP MEEE PLEASE!!!

    Gosh dang im scared to death of Mesa. I wanted one since I was a teen, got a MKV 90w that stayed in repair. It was deemed a "lemon", got a 2nd one completely free, same thing. Man I want to love them but I got burnt pretty bad b/c of the Marks. Was super excited to see this was vintage inspired, classic, etc, but they're still going to stuff 6 modes in it? It sounds good though and I hope you all keep inspiring artists

      Thanks for the kind words, Tricko. I'm guessing the tiny bit of clip on the first playing example when digging in might suggest to you that it's not sparkling clean, but it's in there. Note that the Gain on that example is around 1:00. If you want the amp to be pristine clean, Gain around 11:00 with the Master high or all the way up is where that will happen. Anyway - I'd humbly suggest sparkling clean is easily in the amp. Thanks for watching and taking the time to commnent!

    Are the cleans comparable to the Lonestar or Express 5:50 plus? 6L6s . Seems like the clean from the express and the crunch from the express in the same amp which is what I’ve been after. Am I on the right track?

    • @mesaboogie
      @mesaboogie  6 лет назад +1

      Easily comparable, Adam, and some havce been sayiong they like the Fillmore just as much or more. It doesn;t have quite the headroom of the Lone Star 100w (of course), but people have been saying they hear it as being a little more open. The gain channels are like a classic overdrive pedal in DRIVE, and HI is like vintage styled tweed/brit hybrid circuits for medium gain. Hope this helps and thanks for your interest!

    • @rz0svp

      @@Col.JohnMatrix How are the cleans on the Roadster? I watched a demo and the Mark V and Mark JP 2C have pristine cleans.

    • @Col.JohnMatrix
      @Col.JohnMatrix 4 года назад

      @@rz0svp They are pretty good. The have a 3 position switch for clean, fat,and tweed. You can also assign it to 50 or 100 watts on all four channels. I use the tweed setting as i found it to be the best sounding of them. From what i've read mesa took the clean profile from the Lonestar amp for the clean voicing. That being said I think the Mark series sounds better. I watched the JP2C videos over the years and even set my amp exactly how he set his and there was no comparison. I believe the mark is the flagship and overall best sounding amp the company makes. Thats the amp i'd buy all day long. To be fair i have a 2x12 combo...so they might be more compressed than say a head and cabinet?

    I love Mesas and really want to like this one, but it has this weird, rolled-off, muddy thing going on, like there's a blanket over it or the guitars all have their tone controls rolled down. I'll have to check one out in the wild and see what's really going on.

    • @mesaboogie

      Hi Nate - Interesting that you find it/hearing it muddy/rolled-off. Can I ask what you're listening to the demo with? Headphones, earbuds, computer speakers, monitors? • @Auen73
      @Auen73 6 лет назад +4

      Just curious.....What is the down side of introducing/creating new amp models for us? Boogie will always offer repair service on every discontinued model they've made.... if need be. Seems like we all win here.....What's the downside?

    • @mesaboogie
      @mesaboogie  6 лет назад +15

      +Auen73 has the right idea here. Mesa only discontinues products when we have something new/better to offer and to make room in our rather LARGE family of products to account for said new product, or... sales slow to a point where the economics of keeping parts in stock to continue building a product doesn't add up. Mesa has had extraordinary runs with products - Mark IV for 19 years, Mark V for 10, Rectos for 20+, Triaxis 20, Bass 400+ 17, etc... We've also had products that sold great, are fully appreciated and remain highly regarded, and are fully supported... and they ran their course. We are constantly creating new products, learning from previous designs, and evolving as music and amplification does. Most importantly, we continue to support, repair and offer parts and service for every amp we've ever made since 1971. While we continue to stand behind everything we've ever made, supply and demand plays out and people continue enjoying good amps. Enthusiasts sometimes suggest that discontinuation creates a finite supply, creates "classics", and maintains value... Not in all cases, but... Thanks for listening and a tip of the hat to Auen73! :)
