My grandmother "MawMaw Joyce" loved this song. She died almost two years ago and it still hurts me to be living in this world without her. I was her first grandchild so we had a special bond and a very close relationship. I always knew she loved this song. Cherish your parents and grandparents while you still can. When they are gone you will miss them more than any words could express.
I'm 16, and with all the crap music being produced today, I'm extremely grateful that my dad made us grow up with music like this, and his favorite, Johnny Cash. I'll always love these old classics better than today's music.
There's no comparison between the classic country and the newer country. Back then, the music was just exceptional. This song is an example of how perfect and timeless it truly was. Thanks for sharing.
Cried many tears to this song back in 1957, my husband of six months got drafted into the army.Brings back great memories . We were together for 37 years when God decided he needed him more than me. He has been gone for 25 years and I miss him as much now as I did the day he died
I know how you feel Judith...we had just gotten married when this song came out and it was our song until the day he died...10 years ago. He sang country music himself (very good, use to have his own show on radio) and when I hear it I cry too. God Bless them both.
I know Judith,,,,I met my husband in 1956 and we were married that year. He was in the AF. He died 11 years ago and he was such a wonderful man and I miss him so very much. God Bless you....
So many memories of youth and family are connected to this song....my mom had this single and whenever she played it I reacted in a big way for a small child. I didn't know what Country music was and I thought all music was music. Radio was like that back then, plenty of room for all kinds of styles.
On this day in 1957 {January 20th} Sonny James performed "Young Love" on the CBS-TV program 'The Ed Sullivan Show' Three weeks earlier on December 29th, 1956 it entered Billlboard's Most Played by Jocks chart; and on February 9th it peaked at #1 {for 1 week} and spent 21 weeks on the Top 100 And on February 2nd it reached #1 {for 9 weeks} on Billboard's C&W Best Sellers chart R.I.P. Mr. Sullivan {1901 - 1934} and the 'Southern Gentleman' turns 84 years old on May 1st {May he have many more}
My husband and I were fortunate enough to see him in Portland, Maine many, many years ago. He was a great singer and very talented. Why can't they make country music like this nowadays?
I just LOVE that "tag" he does on the last line at the end. Did you all know that for a brief while in the early 50s, he used to play fiddle with Jim & Jesse!!
I recall hearing this song when I was a little boy. I still love it today. I sorrow at your loss. My wife and I started dating at age 16 in the 60's our song is "Never My Love" by the Association. Best of wishes and love your memories
They say for every boy and girl There's just one love in this whole world And I know I've found mine The heavenly touch of your embrace Tells me no one could take your place Ever in my heart Young love (young love), first love (first love) Filled with true devotion Young love (young love), our love (our love) We share with deep emotion Just one kiss from your sweet lips Will tell me that your love is real And I can feel that it's true We will vow to one another There will never be another Love for you or for me Young love (young love), first love (first love) Filled with true devotion Young love (young love), our love (first love) We share with deep emotion
I am not around your age. I am 21, however I love the 50s and 60s Rock N Roll such as Elvis Presley, Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis, Roy Orbison, Buddy Holly and Ricky Nelson, the Classic Country such as Conway Twitty, Willie Nelson, Hank Williams, Merle Haggard, the bluesmen like Ray Charles and BB King, and Jazz like Louis Armstrong, and Bluegrass like Flatt And Scruggs, Stanley Brothers and Bill Monroe.
Although, this was a Country and Western Song it was one of the select records that got air play on many of the radio stations in the New York, New Jersey, Philadelphia area. Even to the City people on the East Coast this song along with Marty Robins "White Sports Coat and a Pink Carnation" were popular. At that time Rock&Roll was a combination of music; Pop, Spiritual,DooWop,Blues, and Country. Anyone of them could be a hit. Ron--Highway Stars Magazine
Watch Sonny's fret hand in this or any video... It's like a very precise and delicate spider working the strings. He's an amazing guitarist and singer.
This hit by Sonny James, The Southern Gentleman, went to #1 on both the Top 40 charts and the Country & Western charts. It also hit #11 in the United Kingdom. It would finish at #8 for the year, 1957. Who will be #1? Stay tuned.
@tlmorgan56 There are more and more young people who enjoy that great old music. I hear it from 13, 14 year old boys and girls. And I was born in 1983, and I LOVE the old music and can't stand the new stuff that they do today...
One of the few songs I could sing completely through as a little kid. Had no idea what the lyrics meant...but that did not matter at all! I just loved to sing along with this man...still do. Thank you, Sonny. You must have been a good teacher. :-)
I was 2 and a half years old when this was top of the charts and I'm pretty sure it's the first song that registered in my young developing consciousness. Even though I have only just read the lyrics for the first time I could probably have remembered most of the words
Sonny's version is so much better than Tab Hunter's! I have been a Sonny James fan for many years and I was fortunate to see him perform live back during the 70's at the "Four Season's Motor Lodge" Convention Center in Gatlinburg. Sonny sounds as good live as he does on his records.
Hi Terry, Glad you enjoy the old stuff. Back then was when Country was country...I guess you have to be around our age to enjoy the great classic country....Thanks for your comments.....Your friend Terry....

This guy had SIXTEEN consecutive #1 hits in four years, from 1967-71. But name anyone under 60 who has heard of him.
Me, I'm his cousin 😂
I wish music could be like this.
I just LOVE that "tag" he does on the last line at the end.

What an awesome tune, I love the oldies I grew up listening to this stuff. These are real singers not ones that need technology to sound god.
Love Sonny James music. That's all I can say.
They say for every boy and girl
There's just one love in this whole world
And I know I've found mine
The heavenly touch of your embrace
Tells me no one could take your place
Ever in my heart
Young love (young love), first love (first love)
Filled with true devotion
Young love (young love), our love (our love)
We share with deep emotion
Just one kiss from your sweet lips
Will tell me that your love is real
And I can feel that it's true
We will vow to one another
There will never be another
Love for you or for me
Young love (young love), first love (first love)
Filled with true devotion
Young love (young love), our love (first love)
We share with deep emotion

People who can play an instrument, and sing in tune-whatever next!
+Andrew Pollock Truly a foreign concept to a lot of today's so-called "recording artists" indeed...
