Working on my interior now. Finding this video (even if its a couple years old) definitely makes my planned setup a very doable task. Got a fuse/relay and switch kit from MGI speedware. Hooking up an AUX fan to keep the under hood temps/coolant temps during Florida weather in check, a backup camera, and eventually interior under dash or Aux fog lights all from a toggle switch panel. So I can run any, all or a combination of all the time and not play, which wire powers my reverse lights and it only turn on when the truck is in 'R"

I have a high school friend that lost a child from a car backing up . I’m sure it’s everyone worse nightmare to lose a child like that way . I do think it’s a smart and safe upgrade . I have a Silverado and that camera helps a lot specially the blind spots !!

In my opinion, check local for a salvage truck and pull the leather seats from it. I got lucky with a wrecked Escalade limo. Otherwise you’d look at katzkin and that could be pricy

nice clean install as usual. sorry about the banana trees, at least you got to play in the snow! i think the reason the cams are often mounted higher is for the view down on your hitch, but not like this is a tow rig and i like it more hidden too. thanks for the quality content.

Did you add a option for turning on the camera with out putting the truck in reverse? If you just connect a 12v power to the camera it may feed your back up lights (which may not be so optimal). A possible solution would be connecting the back up light power to relay (the coil), then put 12v on one side the switch for the relay then the other side of the switch to your camera. The camera would get power when the relay is activated. Then you can have a 12v switch to the camera power or the non hot side of the relay switch. This would get power to the camera with out turning on your back up lights. If possible a switch to turn on the camera that has a timer may be cool so one push of the switch can keep the camera on for like 10 seconds or what ever.

Literally changed how I feel about my trucks interior and with all of the carbon fiber vinyl and radio mods I can tell you enjoy a good looking interior. I needed a work truck, so I bought a 2011 4x4 Ex Cab LT. Put in a Kenwood HU with wireless CarPlay, put in an LT2 console, have a wireless charger for the console lid coming, and a couple other small things to make it mine.
But as a fellow N. Texan, what do you do for sunglass storage? Everything else I’ve driven has had one built into the overhead console, and I really miss it.
Have you come up with a solution for that? Any chance a console from a newer model works?
I’ll honk if I see you around town, I typically have a bed full of tools and some electrical conduit hanging over the tailgate.

You may just power the camera off an accessory power and it would work whenever you switch to it on the head unit. There isn't a reason to power it from the reverse light. Shifting to reverse only causes the head unit to select the camera not power it.

I did the same upgrade on my Yukon, added the reverse camera and brighter LED license plate lights and one thing you will find annoying is that the bright lights from the lic plate lights is going to "blind" your camera. It is hard to explain but when you back up at night, the bright light points right at your camera and makes the the image look washed out.... If I was to do it again, I would put the camera higher up to avoid the led's from washing out the image.

It’s going to be about 10 years before I can buy a 2020.... and yeah, maybe a ton of people bought them, but there’s not many people who can afford the truck, and also have the balls to mod anything with fear of devaluing it....
