I can't be the only one who thinks Colin's mom is also an angel. So intuitive and accepting of her son without any judgment, or blame. Excellent series!

I felt the exact same way. Colin’s mother was such a wonderful and amazingly loving mother and soul. It was her love and acceptance of Colin, all of his friends and her love for them all - she along with Jill’s parents were the parents that they all needed and deserved to have and be loved by.

    "So there isn't... a boyfriend?"
    "No..."
"No but you'd like there to be?"
    "Yes."
And that little nervous smile he does made me really emotional. This is the first time he's been able to admit this about himself and it's so beautiful. Callum Scott Howells' performance is so nuanced, likeable and believable.

Henry Coltrane was one of the untold stories. The men who first contracted HIV, then AIDS and died quietly without so much as a tear shed at his funeral. Who had lived a life away from his family who could never accept him, and with friends in the same circle that died of mystery Pneumonias, cancers. The ones who were too early to be part of the main epidemic's victims.
    So very sad.

The humour and the courage is astonishing. Gaymen are like Jews, they laugh at the tragedy of their history. I remember a friend of mine who died in the 80s said “ I tell everyone I have Cancer, otherwise I don’t get any visitors.” That gallows humour was brilliantly done in this show. This programme is also about the indomitable spirit of women. The Mothers and Sisters, the Nurses, the Lesbian campaigners, the female solicitors who took on the establishment. Women played a huge part in fighting the dreadful prejudice.

Henry Coltrane’s character was absolutely spot on. He’d taken Colin under his wing and was so stoic and accepting of his fate.
Absolutely wonderful portrayal of the British officer class, made of the “right stuff “.
    Terrific acting.
Terrible pity he was only in one episode. Brilliantly written and wonderful acting all the way through.
The whole enterprise deserves the truck-load of awards it deserves to win.

But so unfair that he died the way he did, he was shy, endearing, respectful, polite, drop dead gorgeous, love his suits.. Really cried when Colin passed and the horror of realisation on Ritchie"s face that he was next in line, as it was... Just floor's me, and freddie Mercury sings at the end with the closing titles, "who wants to live forever, just opens up those flood gates, i can tell you what comes next, is just as poignant x god bless, @All4 x bravo @callumshowells, bravo @olly_alexander x

The purple skin cancer, Classic Kaposi's sarcoma mainly affects men over the age of 50 years, generally Jewish or of Mediterranean/Eastern Europe descent, and is also known as “Mediterranean KS.” The highest incidence is observed in the Mediterranean area, especially in Sardinia and Southern Italy.

@@TheHilikus89 No one deserves this wretched disease. I suppose it just depicts how sleeping with even just one person, a person infected with HIV, can lead a person to becoming ill with the Virus. I think Roscoe said it perfectly in episode 5- when speaking with her Father, “I was just lucky with who I fucked”.
Promiscuous is such a lazy term. The Gay community were only just being accepted by mainstream society and it was their time in the 70s/80s/90s to explore themselves and have fun. For centuries before 1967, it was deemed illegal to be Gay. But I do understand what you mean in reference to Colin. It was such a shock. I know you didn’t mean anything negative or derogatory by it ☺️
The laziness & prejudice of society in the Early days of HIV/AIDS makes me sick. They called AIDS - GRID. Gay Related Immunodeficiency Disease. If you were a Haemophiliac or Heterosexual, then you would get perhaps a bit of empathy or wouldn’t be blamed. But even in the early nineties, when I was a young child, I remember hearing people whispering “well he shouldn’t have slept with so many men”. It’s absolutely abhorrent.
We should look back and really reflect on the prejudice that was inflicted on these sick and dying people. Who caught the virus through no fault or their own and were judged purely on who they were attracted to. So many lessons still need to be learned about our reactions.

The horror of HIV (and the genius of how Russell T Davies tells this story) is that it makes no distinction based on your so-called perceived moral purity. Colin is the sweetest and most 'well-behaved' of all the cast, and yet succumbs to the disease in the most cruel way. I mistakenly thought 'Colin will be safe, he's not promiscuous like the rest' - not only was I wrong, but it also made me realize that I had my own unspoken internal prejudices and views towards the more promiscuous members of the group.
I can't heap enough praise on this show. As someone who came out in the early 00s, I was a little too young to really grasp the brutality of the AIDS crisis whilst still being terrified of the word. This show absolutely made it real.

Not necessarily because the virus can lie dormant for years before causing any problems. And, as the episode didn't delve into their relationship there's no info to say anyone had cheated. They could have had a threesome or a relationship break at some point. Nobody knows.
