    The divers rating on the dial is typically more than about depth though. Many brands only put that on the dial if it meets or exceeds the ISO 6425 standards, which includes a 30 hour submersion rest, condensation test, depth rating test plus 25% safety margin, temperature tests, rate tests, antimagnetic tests and a test to make sure the strap can support 45lbs without breaking. It's quite rigorous. Also, all ISO watches are tested at the end of the line, not just a randomly selected example as in normal QC.

    Nice list of watches Dave. I'm a big Orient and Seiko fanboy and have a Zelos Swordfish 300m diver. I probably would have included some of the better Ali Express brands that are extremely competitively priced and high quality epitomized by a Cronos bronze 1000m diver that survived a pressure test beyond that and only stopped working at 3000m, then started working again when the pressure dropped! There are some options in that area that possibly are better value and should not be ignored.

    I'm planning to get a Orient Mako 3 and I was wondering how durable is it for regular use. I would like it to survive at least a decade of regular wear.
    Secondly,I live near the coast and invariably all my watches are exposed to saltwater and they have deposits in them. How to avoid them? Is there any mild cleaning agent which can be used? Can it be used with an automatic watch?
    What are some regular maintenence tips for extending the longevity of an automatic watch.
    Thanks

    • @JusttheWatch
      @JusttheWatch  Год назад +1

      I think your odds of getting 10 years put of a Mako 3 would be pretty good as long as you take good care of it. You'll likely need to get the movement serviced by then, which would be your main concern. The Mako 3 has great water resistance so you don't have to worry about getting it wet. I would think just rinsing it off with clean fresh water regularly should keep the salt deposits at bay.

    Dive watches are extremely overrated, it's been that way for at least 5 years now. I'm sick of seeing dive watches literally everywhere and at every function. I'm in the minority of course

    Im sorry for having to correct you, but the water resistance rating on most watched has NOTHING to do with the depth to which a watch could be taken.
    It's rather a pressure rating indicating the pressure that water hitting(!) the seals at the watch crown, pushers, glass and bottom can have before water ingress is going to happen. A strong jet from a shower head can already cross that limit.
