Talking Watches With Jason Singer

- Over my time in watches, I have been lucky enough to become acquainted with some truly great scholars and collectors. The greatest scholars - the folks that lead our study and interpretation of collectible watches - are often quiet, reserved people who do what they do because they love and want to understand watches for everyone, not for show or ego. The man you are about to meet has been collecting watches for 32 years, he is an American, and until recently, very few outside his closest circle of friends (think Aurel Bacs and John Goldberger) knew his name. He has been quietly amassing a truly world-class collection that will absolutely leave you in shock and awe - he collects only the rarest and only the absolute finest quality. This, our 15th episode, is your official HODINKEE Talking Watches with Jason Singer. For more, go to: www.hodinkee.com/blog/with-jas...

Jason Singer is the reason why vintage watches are hard to find nowadays.
he keeps the market exclusive to everyone else,
Hoarder
Lol...his dog is lying their like “oh man here he goes talking about his watch collection again...you know how many times I have heard about this Rolex 8171...take me for a walk please”🤣
LOL. That's exactly what he looks like he is thinking. Very funny!
I heard his dog also has a Puptek Phillipe.
His dog has a Patek Sky Moon Bark
Actually an Audemars Puget
This guy has to be one of the most legit collector so far in this Talking Watches series.
Seriously that is one fuck off collection of watches. Beautiful and absolutely unique.
The balls on this guy to not be wearing a watch in this video.
Utterly Enthused lol.
Probably took it off and put it on the table
@@afarhan21 you are correct. See 11:28
The fact that he doesn’t have a watch tan and lives in Arizona is upsetting
hahahaha right
Hey Ben, you should consider doing a follow up episode with Jason. He says at the end that his collection is always changing. Would love to see how it looks now
Vote up for this!!
Here to support! Let's get him back in talking watches!!!
An episode 2 would be great to see what Jason has done lately!
This guy is a fucking baller.
I like someone with a bigger variety. This guy knows what he likes, obviously. But I don't know that I'd wear any of them very often. Truly collector pieces.
hahaah
This and the Jean-Claude Biver one is of my favourite Talking Watches segments. I admire his deep knowledge & passion of vintage watches and love that he put himself through med school selling/trading watches. The rest of us can cry at the missed opportunity when there were "gobs and gobs" of quality vintage watches available in North America in the 80's.
+Sally C I am with you this and the Biver one was great in so many ways
+Charles Walhingford The recent one of William Massena is great too for his enthusiasm and love of watch craftsmanship. His comments towards the end of the interview on the challenges facing the watch industry were illuminating "more style over substance. Prices have exploded. Most people talk more about the money than the watches....Today a child wants an iPhone. He doesn't want a watch. The iPhone will give him the time. That's the challenge the industry is facing."
In a way he aspires to be "a guy with one watch" That, I'm not sure I believe!
wow thanks I will check that one out
i dont get how these dudes remember all the model numbers, "is that the R2D2?" Im like wut?
SJP LMAO 😂

Service costs on this collection has got to be nuts!!
your forget, he has the money to buy these watches, whaat makes you think servicing costs would be a problem
The guy has 3-4 Islands in his kitchen. Each Island represents an extra comma in his net worth 😂
@@kevinmorrice
Who said service costs would be a problem, besides you?
Service costs won't be a problem if you don't wear the watches lol
@Temple of Ridicule
What does any of this have to do with healthcare? Don't go full Bernie bro on us now... LMAO
That dog is a total chiller
Easily 8 figures on the table. The 1463, 2499's , and the sets could easily get the whole collection in the 8 figures.
10 million? JEESH. Curious someone to add them all up current hot watch market.
@@dominicjankowskirealestate3133 a 2499 can easily cost up to $ 3,5 million. www.forbes.com/sites/carolbesler/2018/11/14/patek-ref-2499-triumphs-sothebys-sells-one-for-3-9-million-christies-another-for-3-2-million/#66d99c61349b

Ah yes, the Invicta 1463 lol

Patek has some of the best advertising EVER in the history of watches, imo. For me, the first thing I thought of at 12:42 was the slogan, "You never actually own a Patek Philippe, you merely look after it for the next generation.” Lucky son.
Maybe if I can save some funds in the future, i can bid on some of his watches if they ever come up for sale.. Epic collection
I've seen this video a few times and it is still one of my very favorites of all time. The Dr. just can't hide his passion for all those beautiful watches and I find that infectious.
11:00 - "$200-$300" daytona in the 80's. someone built a time machine stat!
make sure you bring old currency. New money, credit cards and paypal will not work.
@N A Haha not really. We're talking about the 80s, not the 1800s. $200 in 1980 is ~$600 today. For a Daytona!?! Mental.
@Armando Sturzenegger You're right, it's obviously not free. That said, I think $600 is low. Say you had to buy all the parts of a Daytona - the steel, the movement, all the materials for the dial, etc. How much do you think that would cost? I don't know the answer, but it may be a few hundred. So to have one of the most reputable watch brands in the world source the materials, assemble the watch, put their logo on it, and then sell it to you for $600...
those patek 1463 and 2499 fetch millions now days
@N A nah man inflation aside they are much more affordable than they will ever be nowadays
I watch this episode again 6 years later with a different eye on vintage classics ( mainly sport vintage watches before ). This is definitely a reference video in watch collection. Pure joy.
I bought a stainless Daytona, new, in 1972 for $250, and sold it to a pawn shop in 1978 for $200. It was the model without screw-down lugs on the chrono actuators. Sigh. In 1986 I passed up a 1962 berlinetta lusso for $38K. Sigh. No one asks me for investment advice.
No such thing as a 1962 Berlinetta Lusso, the first Lussos weren't delivered until 1963. But the price seems right, when Ralph Lauren bought his 250 GTO in 1986, he paid $650,000 for it. In 1972, you could buy a 250 GTO for like $10,000.
You seem to have great taste when nobody else understands how good things are.
What would you buy now?
Would also now what you would buy today :D
Buy what you like.
I am into vintage Seiko & Citizen.
One of the best ones, definitely knew his stuff and respected them.
None of the watches was talking … I feel cheated.
lolololololol

What???
@@narcleptik You know, talking watches? You press a button and it goes "ITS-QUARTER-PAST-THREE" in a robotic voice?
This is one of my favorite collections on Talking watches. So much history.
I think a follow up of this video would be great. I enjoy this guy's commentary.
Absolutely stunning collection. Great job Mr Singer ! :)
wow a truly magnificent collection and an articulate collector.
Thanks Hodinkee for showing us this dream collection.
When a person has spent that amount of time at a particular thing its always a learning experience to hear them talk.
By far my favorite Talking Watches episode!
incredible, one of the best episodes so far.
Fantastic episode again! This is truly a stellar collection!
How is ben able to keep his cool?
Really do love the talking watches series and what a collection AMAZING.
I want to be one of his kids
Incredible guy it seems and one of the best collections I have seen on Talking Watches!! Love this series
All of the Talking Watches videos are wonderful, but this one is my favorite. There's much wonderful description of and rational to the elaborate collection.
Fantastic to see such a world class collection. Bravo.
Hey Luke, just wondering if you remember caddying for Jason Singer around 18 years ago when he was a 14 handicap and he shot a 73? Oh yeah! That was a special day with Mr. Singer. He was on fire and couldn't miss anything! What a fun day 🏌️⛳
This guy knows his watches and used to shoot even par! Once in awhile 👍🤗
Bob A
Best one yet. Jason lives and breathes his passion for watches. I aspire to his bad assery
Jason Singer, collection So incredible! compliment!
Just wow. So much knowledge and just an amazing collection. (1 of my fav TW’s)
wow this has to be the best vintage watch collection that i have seen on you tube
his dog doesn't give a damn.
I think the dog must be an AP fan, instead.
Nah he a Seiko doggie dogg, only the best will do.
That was a Bernese Mountain Dog, bred in the Swiss alps. Of course it's into the Swiss watches.
TCX Choi dog is high as shit
His dog only stands for a Richard Mille sports
Terrific interview. AMAZING collection.
They say money can't buy you class. But this gentleman has money and class!!! 👍👍👍
Now this chap is the epitome of a collector!
Another amazing collections and his vast experience was remarkable. Thought was awesome how he had some of his collections on his kitchen table. Love how each piece he knew the history especially the one he had in the 1920's with inscription on the back. Really nice interview...
Wow this video is world class. Brilliant lighting, awesome camera angles, and two truly passionate watch connesiurs
Wow. Truly amazing. The best watch collection I’ve ever seen.
Wow. What a lifetime collection! And many rare Patek's and Rolex's which are fortune and in excellent condition. Would live to have just one of those Patek's in my collection.
An amazing video. That original Daytona (well it wouldn't have even been called a daytona) is just stunning.
This might be the more exciting of your videos. I about fell out of my chair hearing him recollect about the Daytona being kicked under the table. I was lucky enough to to have met Paul Newman and got to chat with him and complimented his Daytona that was on his wrist. Super cool.
Video's like this make me realize I am no watch collector. I just like watches and own some nice ones.
I really enjoy "Talking Watches", and this video right here is probably one of the most incredible ones.
Wow! What a collection!
we need a part 2 for this too Hodinkee!
That is one of the most beautiful collections of watches I’ve ever seen thanks for sharing 👍
Incredible collection, amazing !
Holy Cow! What a collection! Mesmerized.
I've been WATCHING these all morning
Do you have Watches?
Wow. What a collection. So unique and special.
Classic collection. Very very nice!
What an amazing collection.
Totally love the episode ben, I guess you really don't have to work every single day of your life because you love what you do, I know I would.
Thank you for the episodes.
Wow best collection i've seen.
unbelievable collection of watches!!! very impressive!!!!
Mind blowing collection!!!
incredible collection this Guy !
stunning collection !
Beautiful collection unbelievable collection
More guys like this please!!
Such an enigmatic collection
The thing is just like he said there were tons of vintage watches available then. There are probably a large number of watches available now that will be extremely sought after 40 years from now.... the question is which ones? Maybe the Seiko SKX
there isn't too many people that can rival this guy collection, that is as far as vintage watches that you'll never again see in your life
Byyy far my fav talking watches. His pateks just give me sth else
this is for sure my favorite series :')
we must get more of these
Stunning- you are the man!
7:53 "very famous musician" aka Eric Clapton.
Alex K. Quite!
Yop.
Epic collection. He really has an eye for the diamond in the rough.
Awesome just awesome collection. Guys seems cool as hell and a real lover of the pieces. I dont remember rolex ever being a few hundred in the 80's my boss had one (Daytona I think) in 84, and I remember him flaunting the bill that was like 8K.
As a watch collector I love Talking watches, but I wish they would do a talking watches with normal more average individuals.
walter85 Talking watches would be boring if they talked about a G-Shock collection.
Jose Paulo King Charley Park ***** NO a Talking Watches about G-Shock would be horrible. What I mean is a Talking Watches about a passionate collector that doesn't need to spend 5 6 7 figures and yet have an exceptional collection. For example, I have an exceptional collection of vintage watches (-/+ 150) that include historical watches like the Hamilton Electric Pacer, 18k Swiss Accutron, and Gruen Curvex. And not one person in Talking Watches have a Seiko. While most people down play Seiko now, Vintage Seiko's like the One Button Chronograph for the 64 Tokyo Olympics (I Have) are amazing watches. And Seiko top line like The Grand Seiko rival and exceed many swiss manufacturers. This is what I mean when I said a more average collector. Honestly I wished I could be part of the Talking Watches series.
walter85 it would be a really short episode of Talking Watches if that happened.
walter85 hi Walter l have a Rolex submarine gilt dial early 1960s . do you know how much it is worth?
watching this again i know what you mean, always said it would be cool to have normal collectors on as well, some are boring collections and only get them on because they're a celebrity or sports person who's just gone to the AD and cleared out the hublot cabinet
The dedication!
Congratulations for such an impressive and beautiful collection! I think I could spend my vacation just looking at these watches, studying details and intricacies of their make end enjoying sheer beauty of them! I will not be surprised if Mr. Stern rings at your door one day and gives you an indecent proposal to buy all the Pateks from you !
Very impressive. Best collection ive seen. Of course id probably never be able to have it though but still I can dream
World class collection indeed.
Awesome collection.
Fantastic video and insane (!!!) collection.
Those bubble backs are fantastic.
That collection must be worth in the millions!!!
That's an 8 figure USD collection. Vintage Patek's are through the roof and he has some of the best and rarest. Some collectors would splurge hundred of thousands of $ on just one of his watches. But a weird thing happened when watching the video. There were just so many grail watches that it felt devalued.
So nice to see what these actually look like in original condition.
Excited to watch this
Master collector of Swiss watches
Epic! Watched it twice already.
Wow that 1463 is drop dead gorgeous!
AMAZING episode!
A true watch aficionado. Love how he said not in verbatim but something like “not that Rolex Stainless Sport Watches are not beautiful but that I was wrong to think that way” or something like that.
Guy straight snapped on the Patek pronunciation
Wow gorgeous collection , I wish I could afford just one , awesome 😎
Nice Berner dog. The watches are impressive, too!!!
Pure class! This are the most beutifull watches.
I love watching these talking watches videos and then looking down at my own Rolex. Makes me appreciate it that much more.
