You know what man, good for you for trying to figure this shit out. Relatively new space and you’re one of the only diy dudes constantly posting videos on it.
Do not use the hornady die to crimp. It is a pain to seat and crimp at the same time plus you can't make quick changes if you do it that way. If you are going to crimp use the lee factory crimp die. I do not crimp any of my rifle cartridges except for 45-70. No issues with any of them. I have had no issues with my 8.6 at 2.695-2.70"
@@EagleReloads just subs right now. Going to do supers at some point down the road but I mainly built my 8.6 for subs so been spending all my time on those. Hopefully going to get to the maker 350s next once I get my gel remelted.
I don't reload anything for my semiauto rifles without using a Lee crimp die. I separate it from bullet seating bc that just makes it less complicated. I also check with a case gauge if possible.
I've come to that conclusion about neck turning. I have more .243 and .308 than 6.5 Creedmoor brass. Waiting for factory 8.6 is like waiting for Congress to work an Honest day. 😅
Yeah bro. You need to just set your current round in the crimp die. Run it up with the crimper dialed out. Then dial it down until it touches. Then lower the round and give it ⅛ turn down and run the round up and see if you feel the crimp. Should be light pressure. Then pull it and observe it. If it looks adequate, do a few more if they're loaded the same length.
I don't know anything about this round . But I do know from reloading 308 / 5.56 / .223 and so on to be careful on seating your bullets to far . This is because the more you push down the more unintended pressure you will make . Only way to counter that is to back off the charge or don't seat it so far . Oo by the this is MadS*xy . RUclips forced me to change my name.
Yo!! Mad. You could be that mad bearded guy! Haha. Ok I’ll have to remember that’s you! So I bumped down 6 of these 15 rounds to 2.65. The rest are still at 2.70. Same powder. Let’s see what velos change to. Coming soon. I am looking for more velo. A lot more.
I usually cut a slice in a neck of a fired round and leave a projectile extended out of the case and chamber it to see how far out it sits when the projectile pushes into the lands. I’ve heard they group better when your projectiles are jammed in the lands. You can get pressure spikes and have the same problem you had with stuck bullets
i have seen johnnys reloading bench do a tutorial on that, id like to try it with the creedmoor and on this 8.6. good info to know and help dial in rounds.

thanks man! I am trying, new to reloading so i have a lot to learn, thanks for joining the journey!
get some swiffer wipes picks up those powder spills easily. just make sure to put it in metal trash can.
I was thinking the same thing
ok, nice tip, got her cleaned up, was everywhere!
Use a dry erase marker and cleaning rode to find the lands and start with a seating depth 0.003” begins the lands.
going to explore this! thanks!

Hey Jaren. Are you doing supers or subs?

You’ll need a neck turning kit to turn the necks to < 0.015” if/when you start making you own brass.

I’ve converted over 300 7.62 MKE cases to 8.6 BLK. Had to turn the necks and works great.
I’m waiting on small primer 308 cases to convert next.
thanks for all the tips guys, we are crimping now. looks like it fixed it!

I am going to play with this more and do a crimp. I also think I wasnt seated properly. too long for the 210 bullets.

Double check overall length and add a medium crimp.
I’d definitely give them a good crimp. It can lower your sd #’s
I think so too, more testing means more shooting, darn.
