China has targeted Guam as a first strike target with their so called "Guam Killer" missiles. Opening these WWII bases allows the U.S. to spread planes and ships to make them harder to destroy.

The approximately 30 military bases that the United States has imposed on our country, the de facto Hawaiian Kingdom, were paid for with Hawaiian blood. But we never speak about that in terms of what darkness the US does in populated countries they covet as a military position. That is the only worth given to our beloved land and ocean by the US. Your government and the supposed legal practices of its citizens, such as quit claiming and quiet titling our STOLEN LAND, have had and continue to have monstrous effects on the people of the Hawaiian Nation. For well over 150, years, the United States and its citizens continue to ignore the factual history that the United States illegally overthrew the Hawaiian nation and Kingdom imprisoned our monarch, our sovereign executive, and then your colonization criteria began it's effort to criminalize the Hawaiian culture and the Hawaiian people, we were basically politically enslaved and remain that to this day in our minds and hearts. Of course Americans kept the parts of our culture that they wanted to, assimilating them on to themselves. Foreigners now tell people they are from Hawaii. I think it's fair to say that the United States is a warmongering country. China may be a very real problem but women believe it is a politics of the patriarchy that continue to mire us in the disasters and horrific effects of participating in war constantly. I believe that current count the United States is either in conflict with or is participating in a war against over 2/3 of the globe. If the priority had been to practice more negotiation with peaceful politics worldwide humans may have had a chance. But then that's not a patriarchal priority, making war is good money. My real problem here is that the United States is a liar in the international realm, the de Facto Hawaiian Kingdom is still recognized as an individual Nation, the Hawaiian Kingdom still holds two seats at the icj in Geneva. And only Nations by the way are allowed to pass through the doors of that room. While I honor and have gratitude for the service of men and women who have honorable intention and their belief that they are helping humans, I do not and will not honor a government, military, and country that imposes monstrous practices on some populations and now we are not even spoken about, we are a dark secret kept by millions of Americans who have access to worldwide information on Google, and yet they scream at me that "this is America you know." If I consider that your country is now burning books so to speak I can hardly give those people the time of day to have a political discussion with them when they have zero factual information. And unfortunately in my experience as an activist and a 30-year paralegal people from your country believe they know everything. it's even a problem with your young people and now it's been put on us. The United States cherry picks the parts of me that they value like being a hula dancer and the rest of me is literally thrown out and challenged to barely survive, let alone for us to live in our identities as native Hawaiians. You have consumed most of our lands without clear title, GAVE SOME TO MONSANTO even so we could be further ethnically cleansed, and our people are STILL enslaved by your country. We have massive statistics of homelessness and mental health issues partially because we live under an ongoing illegal occupation. The colonizer MUST enslave and oppress the host population, you should know that one. These things have long been proven by studies, & not just with the Hawaiian population, I might add. If you speak to people from other nations who have been illegally occupied such as the Palestinians, the human emotions and the damage caused to the human who is not part of any military effort, means a slow death, a horrible daily life where you understand you will not be allowed to live in your culture and hold your identity. You begin to hear the commonality you share if that's your status politically. We love to cheer on the military and yet I could go on and on about the black hearted things they have done here. So while your veins are pumping full of red blooded American apple pie, I would urge you please do remember that the US Military continues to impose it citizenship on the Hawaiian Nation. If you understand politics in the international realm then you will not laugh at me rather you might go confirm what I'm telling you. The Hawaiian nation has been to the Gaza, to support the Palestinians, they've been to the border of Ukraine to support the Ukrainians and they are in Geneva, and they go to The Hague to fight against the illegal occupation of Hawaii by the United States and its citizens so that Hawaiians may be resourced as the humans we are intended to be. Or so many other humans would not be trying to assimilate our culture and our identity. This is some of the dark stuff I meant that a soldier is forced to carry for a country and a government after the warS in Vietnam & in the Middle East, in the end, deserted it's soldiers, financially, & without regard for human decency when they didn't even keep their word to my son (and countless other soldiers) who after keeping his word and after seeing the horrors of active combat, was not paid the stipend he was promised for signing up. It broke him. Not because of the money, but because it dispelled his belief that he was actually helping other humans. He no WE know now that the whole thing began with a lie. It is egregious, and in that instance especially heinous, because the ask is so great, & because a man's word is supposed to be everything. That's a whole lot of men's words that now mean nothing to a whole lot of soldiers. Please don't forget the part that native Hawaiians continue to live in great suffering under an illegal occupation and with a forced american citizenship for which our ALREADY sovereign ancestors did not ask.

I'm not saying we should be pro-war, but I've always believed all WW2 and Cold War bases and bunkers should've NEVER been abandoned. They could've been repurposed as Civil Defense stations in post-war years for the Allies as well as staging areas for rapid response to tsunami, earthquake, and volcano disasters. But yes, having large airfields does aid in response time for larger support aircraft as well as bombers, fighters, and drones as well as combat control aircraft. Plus these bases could be utilized as storage bases for emergency supplies and aid to foreign countries, like generators, fuel depots, and humanitarian items, in addition to vehicles.
This should apply not ONLY in the Pacific, but stateside and in Europe as well. Lots of Urbex explorers showing bases and bunkers left abandoned to decay wastefully.

I went to Tinian in 1981 with 1st Bn 5th Marines. At the time the island was overgrown but still showed all signs of the US Air Force former home. It's filled with rats.... It's also extremely hot weather. Even the tiny beach to swim is extremely hot. The water is extremely warm. Tinian is a lonely place. Many Men died to purchase these island chain islands. The Philippines needs our help. But we should not conquer the Philippines as we did before. Americans must respect the Philippines and it's people. Then the balance of power will come....
I'm 62 now and spent many years in my 20's & 30's in Philippines and Okinawa. I speak from experience. If we give the Philippines what they need they will do the work.... They are reliable people....

He will abandon Ukraine, that is fighting US former enemy Russia. The sad fact is that in the coming years, we will see the US go for isolationism and abandon its former allies. The coming president has made no secret about his and the American military's mission of abandoning Ukraine and its allies.

I happens to disagree with your assessment to keep those bases operational. It has been 80 years since the end of WWII. The manpower and cost to keep those bases would not be cost effective. As you can see, when the need arise, it only take one year to reactive those bases to be combat ready. Note that these are not primary combat readiness locations but are backup locations to allow our aircraft to disperse to prevent direct enemy attacks. They then can operate independently at these locations or regroup with the main forces. It's what the new Aguile Combat Employment (ACE) war strategy call for. Unllike days of old, today's im-mobile Air Bases can easily be destroyed by enemy's gps guided mid-range ballistic missiles.

@@JDere i never said all forward bases . And the logistics of temporary using them would be a nightmare . And cost effective? You really don't seem to know what it takes to keep infrastructure in working order. Do you realize the amount of money it is going to take just to bring these bases back up to speed? No.... It is better to keep a strategic amount of these bases operational, and quit putting money into nonsense that has been a waste for decades .

I’ve commented on this before so here goes this air field was reopened by the 62 sea bee battalion in 1982 ! Two runways were cleaned off and as soon as they were cleared 96 sea bees with there remaining equipment . They performed various operations such as sanitary , drilling water wells , including one for the locals , repaired some roads , participated in night maneuvers, live fires . At the conclusion Air Force c130 flew in simulating a combat extraction . We were also inserted in the same manner . All ,all construction on tinian was done by navy SeaBees which included runways as well as buildings , and putting in the rr track digging the bomb pit ! I keep seeing this about the Air Force , there wasn’t any air force red horse ! Th make it clear 2 runways were suitable for c130 use and were used these planes flew off Guam, they done a great job of inserting and extraction T resupply . Don’t distract from the 200,000 SeaBees who built most every thing in the pacific region and now there younger SeaBees are still at work in the region ! I was part of these 96 men as chief we worked hard and were proud to have been where our forefathers had further reflected the famous CAN DO spirit of navy Seabees, give. Em credit not omission!

I remember going over to my friends house when I was a kid. It was a big dairy farm. His grandpa taught me something I never forgot. We got done milking, and he picked up a quart of milk and a coffee can of cat food. He said, " Let's go feed the cats, I want to show you something funny." He poured the milk into a cast iron skillet and poured the cat food on top. All the cats came running, and two big toms came up to either side. He said, "Now you just watch, that cat won't be happy with all the food in front of him, he will reach clear across that skillet to take the food away from the other one and there will be a fight!" Yup, paw reached out, fight started, milk and food all spilled. He chuckled and said, "Just like people!" He was with Merrill's Maruaders in WW2.

Make it look so expensive to a potential adversary and they'll think twice. Sure they want Taiwan back. The BRAC dictates should NEVER have been implemented since they cut into the muscle of our armed forces capability to respond rather than just trim the fat. SAC (Strategic Air Command) should NEVER have been closed down, it was the penultimate deterrent to aggressive moves by the Soviet Union and any other nation with designs on attacking the United States, our territories, or our protectorates. I realize that is redundant but then the thought that there aren't going to be black market opportunists, might be naïve of me...thank you for your service. My uncles fought in Vietnam, they each did three tours, one of my uncles retired as a sergeant major in the 101st Airborne Division. My husband was in the 101st Airborne Division in the task force. He was a Blackhawk crew chief, and they actually did the Achille Lauro rescue, went to Libya, and did many other covert mjssions, none of which I was told about until many years later of course LOL. My son also served in the 101st Airborne in Afghanistan. He was a computer specialist and was sent there to deconstruct fob computer systems, and he is the Heartbreak. Because when he was sent there they were told there wasn't combat so these men were not mentally prepared. And of course when he got there there was combat, my son saw active combat, and called me crying when he realized that he had killed humans the first time. You are the ones that carry the load, it is individuals who served because they truly believed it would make a difference for other humans. That is what I honor & for which I have great gratitude. With Russia involved in the war with Ukraine, I think they should reactivate NAS Adak. On Adak Island in Alaska. it was originally a P-3C base that was used in the 80s and 90's. P-8A's could use the island for refueling and sonobouy logistics support. Or Maybe station a detachment of US Navy F-35 there. Most of the Infrastructure is still there. The Island is inhabited by about 80 people. Mostly Alaska state workers and some fisherman. Most of the Millarty housing is still there, just needs to fixup work. Runway and Tower have been maintained by Alaska. The old P-3 hanger is still there. A little work and she would be ready to serve again. I was there in 86-87. Loved it.

10:46 Lisa Franchetti went to Northwestern for Journalism, she also got her Masters in the Arts. The largest combat operation she oversaw was the launching of cruise missiles at Syria. The SLCM's from USS Virginia. While briefly commanding a Destroyer and also a Carrier Strike Group. Admiral Franchetti is seen by some as a "DEI Hire". She has not been deployed directly to a war zone were she commanded sailors "in harm's way".

The fact is that those bases are standing still as targets makes them more vulnerable than our carriers. That means we need to have enough counter measures to stop missile attacks, along with sufficient shelters for our aircraft and personnel and repair equipment and supplies to stop the prodigious amount of chinese missiles that will be launched against them. We already do have immense protection on our carriers, and the island bases would need to increase that amount of protection by a minimum factor of 10.

  • @Grampagreybeard

Many men died taking these Islands none of these bases should have been abandoned after WW2 they should have kept as resupply depots and training bases for all branches of the Military and our Allies. If they had been kept the Chinese would not be such a threat in the region.

I believe we should reactivate every base in this country, it would be a great opportunity to restore the Civil Defense that this country had during the Cold War. By doing this we could make logistical support for storm relief and other natural disasters.

Some of the islands where thousands of Marines died could have been just bypassed. The Japanese on those islands would have been starved out since their navy could no longer deliver supplies. It was Admiral Nimitz who said no islands would be bypassed. He is responsible for the needless death of many Marines and Sailors.

These are too close to China and carry a high risk of being attacked by missiles during conflict. Instead, you (the U.S) is investing in airbases and military facilities here (in northern Australia) which can respond to conflict in the region, where personnel and assets are less at risk. We (Australia) are seeing the biggest military build by both our federal government and U.S strategic partners since the Second World War.

As a retired Air Force guy, I have seen our Air Force shrink (I joined in "90 just before the USSR called it quits), grow, shrink (Pres Clinton), grow (after 9/11), shrink (Pres Obama), and shrink a little more (Space Force/Orange face "Force Shaping) etc .. This may just be a size adjustment to our Air Force .. Guam has been a hub for the Pacific for decades (Usually bombers) .. I hope they keep building satellite bases like they did in the dessert .. (The Pacific is WAY nicer to be stationed than the dessert was) ..

There is another possibility... Those islands would make great launch points for ICBM's, and/or shield defense missiles (Star Wars Defense Missiles). Protective AND punative missiles, staged at a perfect distance from China. Too far to send Chinese invasion troops to, yet close enough to strike Chinese Mainland targets. Pretty smart in my book.
