It's called a "direct" because Nintendo called it that, and Nintendo called it that because they were creating their own announcement videos and marketing directly to their audience, instead of going to a third party convention (E3) and relying on a third party industry (games journalists) to write articles and take videos that would preview the games. It's "direct to consumer" marketing, A concept that is so inside baseball that it was a silly name even at the time, and now is such common practice today that it's made all the sillier when companies adopting the practice for the first time continue to use that name.

I might be in the minority, but I am seriously hoping you have someone on recreating Kara-Tur while at it. As a Japanese-American, those were my favorite places/characters to work with. Drove everyone else nuts, but I loved it. PLEASE be working on this.
Honestly, after the name drop in BG3, I've also been hoping for some new Kara-Tur material. The material didn't age well so I'm not against some adjustments. Just pull a Radiant Citadel and get people who actually know what they're writing about to revamp the setting.
Why did it drive them nuts? I feel like they are more likely to expand Radiant Citadel instead of using the non-European parts of Faerun in upcoming books.

It costs 0 dollars to create your virtual tabletop minis. So, if I buy a physical mini, there sure as hell better be a bar code or something in there to unlock that mini on the Virtual Tabletop. If you think people are going to buy models twice, you're insane.

I was born in Brazil and I guarantee: many Brazilians love Dungeons and Dragons. Our gaming community was very disappointed when Wizard of the Coast announced that they would stop to publish Dungeons and Dragons material in our native language (Portuguese). Please, reconsider this decision! I believe there is a large market in Brazil waiting for Dungeons and Dragons products. You only have to gain by investing in our country. Think about it!
I just gotta say I'm so excited for everything that's coming to the D&D community, and I love how it is the greatest time to be part of the hobby ever!
I I started playing AD&D when I was 6 back in 1990 and my very first campaign was in a wizard of the coast store. Back when they where still around. I was an elf ranger. I still have that character sheet lol
Have they covered off the system requirements and hosting side? People talking about how much the digital rulebooks cost had better hope their PC is up to running Sigil, and that all their pals at the table are tooled up too. My biggest concern over this from the hobby point of view (and that's TTRPG hobby not just the mighty D&D) is that if kids are meeting up at someones house and dragging their gaming laptops with them, how soon will it be before they all start to realise, "I could do exactly this from my own bedroom?" and D&D slowly migrates to VTT as the standard model. Using the VTT you have been lured into investing all your new D&D purchases into. I believe this is Hasbro's ultimate goal. And the danger is that it could create the biggest generational cut off point in the hobby's history, where the expectation is to play remotely, rather than VTTs being a convenience for those who live too far apart to meet up. And people playing round a table will ultimately come to be viewed like 2 people playing Baldur's Gate 1 & 2 together on a split screen in the same room... a peculiarity from a bygone age.
Spaghetti at the wall predictions cause why not - That red wizards adventure we all forgot about. - Extensive DMG preview - More MM teases - Players Handbook 2 w/ Artificer and more subclasses - I got nothing else but a Ranger fix would be appreciated
for their partner stuff I want them to announce that it's easier to publish modules. I want all my hit point press stuff on there. I wasn Pointy Hat's stuff on there. And so on...
I love getting to be part of this community. I can express more of me in D&D in game then out. As a kid with ADHD the game is more than words, I see the world around me and its grate. I may be a nerd, but I will always be happy and a DM.
still wanna know if the 3d minis and character custoim building for the vtt are gonna be a separate pay-to-use or if you'll get access to that if you have a dnd beyond subscription. like, I own the monster manual, will I have access to the 3d minis for the monsters featured there? that kind of stuff besides that, it looks amazing. cant wait to see the dragon anthology and the rules glossary
I'm super pumped for Project Sigil. It seems like it could be a ton of fun playing online. I just hope there isn't going to be an expensive cost to buying new minis.
I would really like to see Ed Greenwood be involved in the creation of the Forgotten Realms books. As many others have stated, his content has continued to expand on his world and he is actively producing more lore on his own RUclips channel. Missing out on the opportunity to work with the creator of your most successful setting to curate a guide to the realms would be a complete letdown.
Dungeon Dudes taught me how to play D&D and how to Dungeon Master and I went on to found a huge thriving local chapter of Adventurers League at my LGS as well as run many of my own campaigns for friends. I'm very excited to see them involved and I think that's a very good look for WotC.
I almost lost my mind about the VTT. I think it looks super cool and I can't wait for it to come out. I just hope that the mobile version wouldn't be far after since most of my players don't have a laptop.
Why play a ranger when you can play an ancients paladin? Divine favor is concentration free, stacks with hunters mark and you get a permanent large summon that doesn’t use your bonus action to command. Unless you want to use a bow.
I got new people playing through The years who are still playing to this day. And I think that many more will enjoy it as long as they have a good imagination a willingness to be open do new things around people while playing the game
"There's a huge creator commuity They're the ones who've kept the game growing and going" yeah thats right THE COMMUNITY, before you tried to steal there work with the OGL, NEVER FORGET!!
Pie in the sky ideas for the future and probably too much to implement, but it would be awesome to be able to drop in your own 3D models into the Project Sigil game space. Also, it might undermine any microtransactions they're trying to set up. Still it would be fun to drop my own 3D models into the game for our own personal use in-game. Could go even further and maybe do a creator marketplace where people who do make 3D models for TTRPGs and printing could sell custom models and WOTC take a small fee for that as well.
I would love to see an official conversion of the old classic modules. These are dear to me and bring back so many fond memories of a weekend long gaming sessions at my friend's house when I was a kid. Start with B1 - In Search of the Unknown and work your way from there.
Take a look at the Original Adventures Reincarnated line from Baldman Games. They’ve converted B1, Keep on the Borderlands, Isle of Dread, Castle Amber, Expedition to the Barrier Peaks, The Lost City, and others. They’re really quite good.
The 3D Map Builder looks awesome! Reminds me a lot of Dungeon Alchemist, where you simply pick what type of room you want, and click and drag, and Presto!, the AI creates the room for you. I love that, not the least of which it will make map making a lot faster than the old way of making maps. That being said, I am still wondering if Wizards of the Coast will go back and make 3D maps for all of the 5e Adventures that have been previously released, or if we want to run any of those in Sigil, will we have to make the 3D maps ourselves?
I really love the focus on the Moonshae Islands, but Id actually like it to be a combat optional area with war, pirates, etc to interact with. The lore of the islands really lends to the combat playstyle. Sooo overall, Im actully nervous with what you are going to do with it.
They said the Multiverse is the main setting for 2024 D&D, Greyhawk is the example setting for the DMG, because Chris Perkins slipped into it, because it would never get published otherwise. Not being the default setting anymore is the best news for FR, it means it's no longer under the default setting curse, hence why it's getting proper books now.
Finally they split player options and DM content in different books. Hopefully means proper amount of DM content and leaves room for more than 3 lines of details per locations.
6:32 @DNDWizards When you say that you are working on a translation of the PHB , DMG and MM, will there also be a translation for DND Beyond? Both for the books and for the site/app?
Nowadays web browsers, such as Chrome and Edge, can both translate entire webpages. If you view the content of a sourcebook on a browser, you should be able to have it instantly translated in real time. I'm certain it wouldn't be perfect, but it should be more than enough to utilize the material.
I want to preorder the digital/physical core rulebooks bundle on D&D Beyond, but it's only available in the US. They should consider offering a discount on the digital books for those who purchase the physical versions, even outside the US.
It's kinda a letdown when you get even a german translation and not a PT-BR one. I'm used to play in english since the 5E release, but having official translated content would really help our community to grow and engage with this new edition.
Excited they said they will have some stuff focused on the whole of the forgotten realms… like the dales…. But come on already! Can we get some DARK SUN!!!
Hoping for more dragonlance and atificer stuff. maybe even a mystic class :) Edit: well... maybe the next books will have the stuff i'm interested about :( with all the psyonic options in the new PHB i really thought we might get a psyonic class... at least all the new art looks amazing :)
Digital code for physical books, buying particular subclasses or backgrounds- not the entire $30 book, every step towards pushing us to spend more money is the last shove we need to find a new character building website all together. (and there are a few already in kickstarter)
so I pre-ordered the digital bundle, but because I'm supporting my local store by pre-ordering the core books there, I'm missing out on the pre-order bonus. seems a bit lame to tie digital bonuses to physical purchases on dnd beyond...
I'm cynically optimistic. It all looks and sounds great but I will never again underestimate Hasbro/WotC's ability to totally screw over their player base.
I would expect them to sell 3D models of monsters and terrain based on Rarity, not unlike their random unboxing of minis. I could be completely wrong, but that is a way to artificially increase the price.
Overall this seems pretty mid. Is that really all that's coming out in 2025? I am mildly interested in the VTT, but not the microtransaction hell that will probably come with it.
1. This is epic! 2. Lobe that they're working with 3rd party creators like Dungeon Dudes, Kobold Press, Ghostfire Gaming, and Griffin's Saddlebag. If they were to be smart and utilize those creators then it would elevate DnD even further; ex. Making Seeker's Guide to Twisted Taverns and Enchanted Emporiums offical DnD 2024 5e books. 3. While I'm excited for that Forgotten Realms book, it better have 4 subclasses per each class like the new PHB. Do that and it will fly off the shelves. 4. One thing they should definitely do latter on is allow you to 3D print your minis from the online 3D game. Like, team up with Heroforge.
Some exciting news, D&D looks very promising. So Forgotten Realms will come back in a book, which is really awesome, and what about our beloved Dragonlance?? Any plans as well?!
Sooo... what about the feature system that the devs were about to release 2 years ago? We're about to get a Drizzt vs Optimus Prime before character sheets that actually work

Watching this right after Nintendo's....yeah, I agree
It was probably on twitch first with an intern chatting to fans.
This community will find anything to complain about
@@Mr_Boyer - For good reason, considering the company.
I just realized my group had been playing since 1982, that's 42 years of some wild adventures. I'll be looking forward to this.
Forgotten Realms books! YES, looking forward to those. Hoping y'all involve Ed Greenwood on those books!
Unfortunately it looks like aside from the Dalelands and Moonshae Isles it's...surprise-surprise...Sword Coast Centric I mean what about the Sea of Fallen Stars or the Old Kingdoms? I for one think that they dropped the ball on the potential of Tymanther, an entire nation from a parallel world dropped in the middle of a region inspired by the Civilizations of the Bronze Age, if they wanted they could have gotten creative with the monsters and ecology of the region like Bethesda did with Morrowind.
Me too❤
I think they're contractually obligated to (?) Greenwood's contract with WotC is hysterically lob-sided towards him
"There hasn't been a player's guide in 5th edition"
*immediately cut to a stack of books including the Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide*
I think they meant a book that details the majority of the Realms. The SCAG detailed just that; the Sword Coast.
I hope the new Forgotten Realms books are better than the SCAG.
@@ilexgarodan and a bad detail of it
@@XOPPET It was enough for me to work with.
@@abpho207 it would almost have to be.
for something as big as D&D, translating it to only German, French, Italian and Spanish is really weird. Feels like 1996. The lack of Portuguese in particular hurts a lot!
Most likely those did not sell well enough…
How many of the writers and designers featured in this video did they fire last year?
None, this video was shot this year .
The cat having dark vision is the best change of the entirety of this update
"You can have Dritz fight a robot" *Shows Optimus Prime*
Hasbro doesn't know how to make money with D&D, so get ready to see a bunch of its IP integrated into the system starting in 2026.
Yup. Definitely a new version of MtG Lairs, Fortnite skins, etc.
ok but unironically if they start doing big name IP themed books and they release a Nintendo themed one for some reason, they can have my money idc. Wishful thinking of course, but it would be fun (hopefully)
Oh no. Not another 5e conversion ttrpg. /s
I thought you were joking... and then I saw it. Any bets on how long before COBRA sets up shop in the Serpent Hills?
It's funny seeing this tho since my friends I play with wanted me to add Optimus Prime into our campaign 😂
So glad they are sticking with Forgotten Realms. Yea I know it's cool to hate on it but I love it. Hope we'll get more Chult and a Neverwinter module.

@@strandedstarfishyes you are.
Yes!
I started playing in 1977. The most incredible times of my childhood were game nights. My love for the adventures has always been there. At 56 I'm now looking at the idea of becoming a DM and if the new edition is as good as it looks, I can't wait.

"Wait, we are in a dungeon and there is a dragon? Isn't that a little on the nose?"

you gonna make me pay for every scrap of content in the VTT aren't you? here is a mini for 5 bucks. here is a hat for a mini for 2 bucks. here is a cool sword for 2 bucks. You can get the mini with the hat and the sword for 7 bucks in this summer sale...
It's gonna be more than that. The dice start at 6 bucks. Characters are going to be at least 10 each.
I certainly hope to see Ed Greenwood being consulted for the Forgotten Realms PG and CG. I would be less inclined to buy them without his stamp of approval.
I love Dungeons & Dragons. I can't tolerate WOTC's shitty business practices. It's hard to stay excited about this.
Why is everyone so overdramatic
@@zaladar1fr
True story. Even worse for translated content
Luckily Their are a lot of Indie ttrpgs that are out. Some even free. I would recommend Low Fantasy Gaming its very similar to 5e but has a lot of cool stuff that's it's own thing
Honestly guys I understand why you’re upset by this but can’t us as dnd players just be happy that they are releasing new content 8 years after the 5th edition stuff came out?
I might be in the minority, but I am seriously hoping you have someone on recreating Kara-Tur while at it. As a Japanese-American, those were my favorite places/characters to work with. Drove everyone else nuts, but I loved it. PLEASE be working on this.
I would love to see more work done on the rest of the Forgotten Realms aside from the Sword Coast.
Can you not just use the old material and take some inspiration from other Asian-inspired settings like L5R?
@@VinceValentine Well… I may have… um… actually spoken… in Japanese and Japanglish while playing the characters…
This didn’t feel like a Direct. Just a trailer of stuff to come 😕
Isn’t that what this is supposed to be? Trailer of dnd stuff? It’s what they did last year, basically the same vibe. How else are they going to give us a preview of what’s up and coming?
@@Wizhurd117 I see what you’re saying but not in this case. Directs have come to be a bit more than this. And yes last year it was the same kind of gripe. We are told everything before the direct and the direct only gives us some stuff. Just felt lacking with this years even more than last year’s.
@@Wizhurd117yes and no. Directs especially from nintendo are to show you whats ahead and gives a more personal feel with something new or confirmed. This feels hey heres our roadmap then use footage that been shown or talked about already that came from other sources. Now if they showed us sneak peaks on the new stuff the starter set, dmg- and playerhandbook- of forgotten realms. That it would feel more direct.
@@dragonmk123exactly. I skipped over most of the beginning, they weren't saying anything new just glazing themselves over the new books.
Please give us sourcebooks.
Lots of sourcebooks.
Spell arcanums,
martial compendiums.

Good ones, bad ones. It doesn't matter.
More of that, please.
I just got my new PHB, but it would be great if it would be translated to Polish so many people could play with their family/friends who doesn't speak English fluently and got some problems with it. D&D is so big i think it should be translated to most languages in EU.
Wizards, please show some love to your brazillian community. Only about 1% of our population is fluent in english, so the majority of people won't be able to join this new edition due to the language barrier.
Im curious, have they made official translations for portuguese for any of their previous books?
@@internetstealers2731 Yes, there were publishers who brought them to Brazil. But since they announced the operation on behalf of Wizards of The Coast, they abandoned the country.
Infelizmente acho que só vai ocorrer se alguma editora nacional comprar os direitos e traduzir
@gustavo_agibert Sadly, WotC doesn't care about us Brazilians.
Basically wizards broke their contract with the company that translated to Portuguese because "they would translate it now" and just stopped doing it lmao@@internetstealers2731
I hope the forgotten realms guide leaves the sword coast and goes to Kara-Tur, Maztica, etc.
There is a D&D Beyond Article with a few more details. The Forgotten Realms Player's Guide is the actual book with the general Setting information for the Forgotten Realms, not the other book which Beyond calls the Forgotten Realms Adventurers Guide BTW, both placeholder names.
@@strandedstarfish it might, CEO Chris Cocks is a Kara Tur fan, and that is the setting of his home game.
I would argue the 1983 Basic Player's book taught you how to play before character creation.
That said- the opening sentiments from the players? Truth. My tribe are gamers. Gamers are who we are.
WOTC tend to memory hole basic d&d for some reason.
It costs 0 dollars to create your virtual tabletop minis.
So, if I buy a physical mini, there sure as hell better be a bar code or something in there to unlock that mini on the Virtual Tabletop.
If you think people are going to buy models twice, you're insane.
For sure. I'm worried about how bad the monetization in Sigil will be.
I prefer collecting physical books
Does WotC even sell minis?
Just as with their books! Right :)?
@@joshuajenkins6920 Going by WotC's modus-operandi they'll announce a microtransactional nightmare, let the backlash stew for a week and then announce a not-as-bad version so it seems like is a great version.
Huzzah for the Forgotten Realms sourcebooks. Ive missed those.
Drizit versus Optimus prime is crazy
I'd watch that movie.
Spaghetti at the wall predictions cause why not
- That red wizards adventure we all forgot about.
- Extensive DMG preview
- More MM teases
- Players Handbook 2 w/ Artificer and more subclasses
- I got nothing else but a Ranger fix would be appreciated
I doubt they would announce another PHB this early when they're already asking us to shell out $150 for these 3 books right now.
First
for their partner stuff I want them to announce that it's easier to publish modules. I want all my hit point press stuff on there. I wasn Pointy Hat's stuff on there. And so on...
Why would they announce a new PHB before 2024 edition isn't even out yet lol we're not getting another PHB for another 5-10 years
So if you count Forgotten Realms (player's version of the book) you got your PHB 2.
I see Kelly and Monty and just feel so much wholesome good energy. Those boys make me happy.
no one gonna talk about how extremely edited 2:10 is? that sounded like they edited his words out of context...
Great video but be HONEST... It's a GIANT COMMERCIAL and not a Direct. Stop blowing smoke up our asses.
I mean thats what directs are, commercials for the new things to come, the same happens with other directs like the PlayStation or Nintendo ones.
My local Walmart put out the DnD lego minifigs early. I was surprised to see them so i grabbed a few.
I love getting to be part of this community. I can express more of me in D&D in game then out. As a kid with ADHD the game is more than words, I see the world around me and its grate. I may be a nerd, but I will always be happy and a DM.
still wanna know if the 3d minis and character custoim building for the vtt are gonna be a separate pay-to-use or if you'll get access to that if you have a dnd beyond subscription. like, I own the monster manual, will I have access to the 3d minis for the monsters featured there? that kind of stuff
besides that, it looks amazing. cant wait to see the dragon anthology and the rules glossary
Ranger hot-fix patch incoming? /s
If they just made hunters mark concentration free on Rangers would of helped.
Or just create more spells especially at 4th lvl that don't require concentration
How would they if the book already made also the ranger is fine we haven't played it yet just seen it in text
Why play a ranger when you can play an ancients paladin? Divine favor is concentration free, stacks with hunters mark and you get a permanent large summon that doesn’t use your bonus action to command. Unless you want to use a bow.
@@chachy3369 honestly always ignored that rule in games I've ran.
I got new people playing through The years who are still playing to this day. And I think that many more will enjoy it as long as they have a good imagination a willingness to be open do new things around people while playing the game
All those lit torches in the 3D Sandbox. Who goes and lights those every hour?
It’s D&D. Magic, obviously.
It’s a kind of magic!

Be careful of what you ask for; look what happened to Saltmarsh - urinating on one's own IP is perfectly acceptable in 2024
The 3D Map Builder looks awesome!
This sparked a lot of hope in the VTT for me, especially if that Optimus Prime is supposed to signify model importing.
Nah it just means that Hasbro will sell their IP toys there, it will never have model importing
I really love the focus on the Moonshae Islands, but Id actually like it to be a combat optional area with war, pirates, etc to interact with. The lore of the islands really lends to the combat playstyle. Sooo overall, Im actully nervous with what you are going to do with it.
Find it odd that they're making 2 new books just on the forgotten realms when they said that greyhawk was gonna be the main setting for 2024.
I was kind of curious about this too.
Greyhawk was the official setting for 3rd Edition, but they still released a Forgotten Realms book for that edition, too.
@@wirtslegacy Are you implying they may release more Greyhawk content or just stating a fact. I am asking out of curiosity, not to be confrontational.
@@gyorgyor7765 Okay that makes sense.

It was cool to see so many shots from this years Gencon!
Finally they split player options and DM content in different books. Hopefully means proper amount of DM content and leaves room for more than 3 lines of details per locations.
There going to be alot of dual player & dm content in the FRPG because that us where the general Setting overview and update is.
If I got a Ring of Three Wishes, I would wish three times that WOTC works alongside with Ed Greenwood on those new Forgotten Realms books
They better not nerf my heavily min-maxed, meta gamer/twink/gamebreaker triple class character!
They can't nerf anything if you are playing as you wish, by your own books.

I'd say they should finally add twink as a class, but bard already exists
Don't have to worry about that, WotC just love nerfing DMs :)

I'm super excited! Getting back into DnD and looking forward to seeing the new order!
Me too
6:32 @DNDWizards When you say that you are working on a translation of the PHB , DMG and MM, will there also be a translation for DND Beyond? Both for the books and for the site/app?
Nowadays web browsers, such as Chrome and Edge, can both translate entire webpages. If you view the content of a sourcebook on a browser, you should be able to have it instantly translated in real time. I'm certain it wouldn't be perfect, but it should be more than enough to utilize the material.
I love dnd too most dice set because I started playing it in school so right now I am overflowing with feelings about dnd❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
2D maps, and 2d tokens in sigil is exactly what needed to happen. Let us in already!
Lol the letter people are far too deep into that company for that to ever happen.
Hoping for more dragonlance and atificer stuff. maybe even a mystic class :)
Edit: well... maybe the next books will have the stuff i'm interested about :(
with all the psyonic options in the new PHB i really thought we might get a psyonic class...
at least all the new art looks amazing :)
hoping for the dragonlance setting for 5e, even if it's as basic as spelljammer.
Please add the 2024 core bundle in the europe store, so far only the individual items are available.
With Project Sigil, will there be a Display Mode? Like if I want to cast it to my TV and not reveal the DM's side of things?
Digital code for physical books, buying particular subclasses or backgrounds- not the entire $30 book, every step towards pushing us to spend more money is the last shove we need to find a new character building website all together. (and there are a few already in kickstarter)
so I pre-ordered the digital bundle, but because I'm supporting my local store by pre-ordering the core books there, I'm missing out on the pre-order bonus. seems a bit lame to tie digital bonuses to physical purchases on dnd beyond...
Can we just get irl (not digital) minis of the BG3 characters please?
Whizkids (aka DECCA) manufactures Harsbo’s D&D miniatures. Ask them.
Whiz kids (parent company is DECCA) manufactures Hasbro’s D&D minis. Ask that company.
Print it.
Wizards of the Coast: "The cat has darkvision!" Me (the DM): EVERYONE has darkvision! 🤦♂
Cmon WoTC, show us we can trust you again, fingers crossed for the 2024 Players Handbook!
The Lady of Pain disapproves of this pronunciation of Project Sigil.
Wotc is run by Baatezu now.
So does Matt Mercer
Overall this seems pretty mid. Is that really all that's coming out in 2025? I am mildly interested in the VTT, but not the microtransaction hell that will probably come with it.
Id have been happier of they had redone NwN from the 2000s and recreate it for todays audience.
Why isn’t there digital codes attached to each book ??????????
Because book and digital are 2 separate purchases?
