Of all the things you've taught us so far, the far best thing I have learned from you is MARKING! For some reason I've always been afraid to mark up my fabric. I have no idea why. Maybe something I was taught not to do in Home Ec classes 40 years ago. Who knows! But, you are not afraid to full on mark everything. The accuracy you get doing this teeny tiny extra tip is so worth it. I just love your videos SO much. Keep them coming please!
Thanks so much for your kind words 😊 You know, back then when I started to sew I didn't know about these heat erase chalks. So I didn't mark too much either. Just a few pins here and there and that's it. A young colleague of mine was the first person I saw marking everything and this was about 15 years ago (It sounds long but it isn’t too me) I took the habit then. Still, we need to be careful with the material. Cheers 🙂
@@DowntownTailoring Absolutely, test markings on your materials! Part of me suspected our marking tools have come a looooonnnnnggg way! Even with the new technology behind these new tools it’s been hard to break old habits. But watching you boldly mark has made me less hesitant to do the same. Yes, this slightly mature dog can learn new tricks!
Your videos are so great. Thank you for teaching these important skills to a new generation. A lot of people didn't learn how to sew in school or anything and it is a shame how much textiles we waste on boring, unoriginal fast fashion. I'm glad we are getting back to altering our things to make thing unique for us, and to make them FIT properly!
Thank you very much for your tutorials. The video and audio quality is perfect. If you have time could you please make a tutorial on how to taper sleeves of a dress shirt and how to shorten the shoulder seam? Greetings from Germany
Greetings from Canada! We have to make a video about it. In the meantime, you can watch this one where we take in at the sides including the sleeves. ruclips.net/video/TfBFVMw95Y0/видео.html
Brilliant! I am blessed to stumble upon your channel. Love the fact that you mark your fabric before doing any sewing, it looks so organised and precise. Just the way I like it. Thank you.
That colored fabric looks great. I think for men's pants would look great only sewn in the inside so that you can turn them around once in a while and show the fabric. I might try something like that!
I've tried simular tricks, but instead of just a cuff, I tried something a bit different. I on several occasions shorten the jeans or pant and added a large flowing sryle ruffle/skirt to the bottom. This looks best on form fitting styles, that are shortened to between 1/4 and 1/3 of the distance between knee and floor. As always thank you.
Thank you so much for these ideas/tutorials!! My 5 year old has always been tall and skinny... For example a size 5/6 is too big around his waist but fit his leg length perfectly..a 4T waist fits him perfectly but too short. I've been turning his 4T pants into shorts but I think I'll try some of these lengthening techniques for the rest of them. :)
My son was the same way...he was like a regular sized kid that someone just stretched out until he was SOO skinny with long legs like a cartoon character. 🤭 I learned how to cuff his jeans this way and it was very cute. Luckily, all of his shirts had dinosaurs on them, so it was easy to find fabric to match. TIP: I found old navy jeans run longer and fit slimmer. They also have that adjustable elastic in them which helps a lot!
Great video! I also really liked the euro hem idea with the happy bright cuff❤️. As for your request from the male viewers, I asked my son about striped hem. he is pretty conservative and thought they were too contrasting but would go for it if they were a similar colour. Hope that helps, as always, really enjoy your tips and tricks 👍🏻
Jacqui- I agree close match to the jeans being lengthened would look better and I believe that even somehow mirroring the existing top stitching so it would look like it was a planned edition. There was a time in the '70s that pieced together jeans was very popular and I believe this similar look could be achieved.
I know I’ve watched these before but I apparently completely forgot! I made some shorts for mock-ups and wear them for sleeping but I rarely sleep in shorts. I’ve thought of adding some material to make them into pants and now I might just do that since they don’t really go outside who cares if it looks funny But also Jess because I have the hardest time finding jeans that are the right length…
The second one looks good however I didn’t particularly loved the fact that is too contrasting if the color of the jeans you used to lengthen the jeans were darker or the same I would feel comfortable wearing it, I actually thought that if you put a zíper on the added piece it would look awesome 😎 thanks for the tutorial you got me going on the possibilities
Great for ladies. Did you have any luck with re lining men’s trousers? I did mine, but it was lengthy process. Hoping you could have a quicker method? Thanks for your fab tutorials. 😘❤️❤️❤️
Thanks so much. I'm a little stuck precisely because it is a lengthy process and I want to make sure to explain it in easy and relatable way. Working on it! 💪💪💪
Thank you for the video... my 12 years old is tall and skinny ... his jeans become short in just few months.. if I buy him bigger size, the waist is way too big.. I'm going to try this too safe me money lol

I have to admit I am spending too much time watching all of your past videos other than doing my chores, lol! You're so talented I can't stop watching and learning! Thank you!
All are great ideas for ladies, and some men might wear one of thrm. But my hubby wouldn't want that much attention drawn to his pants leg. So please design and show another idea for lengthening men's pants. Or perhaps I just like your videos.

I'm so glad to hear! Thanks for letting me know 😊
My mom was a seamstress in the 1950s, and she also used interfacing for lengthening pants with a cuff. Thank you for your great videos!
🥰🥰🥰
Very nice. I'm a beginner sewer, and I am going to try this.
Wonderful! 🥰🥰🥰
These are great ideas. Thank you for showing how to do this in many ways.
My pleasure 🥰

This is such a great idea! I'll try it too 🥰
How can I add one inch to crop pants with buttons on the bottom? I was going to do a false hem until I discovered the button holes.
Thank you so much for showing us more ideas!
Thanks for watching Random!
Thank you so much. I’m about to do a cuff on my jeans 👏👏👏👏👏
Nice! Happy sewing!!!
All of these are great! Sew creative. I'm a guy and I'd wear those frayed ones you made at the end 🤗
Thank you sew much! I appreciate your input :)
I definitely preferred the second cuff with the euro hem portion
Thank you, I love that one too!!

I did cuffs for my daughter with eyelet lace a few times when she was little. That looks adorable too!

Could you do a video on matching plaid fabric when making a shirt? Help! Lol!
That is tricky. I'll add it to my list!

Amén. Muchas gracias 💞 Si, vamos a ver cómo eso podría hacerse.
Ohh yesss my favorite
The first method is clean if you fold the excess and only trim one side, fold over and do flat stitch 😉
