I went to a professional tailor where I live. I had two pairs of pants I needed let out a bit. She told me she couldn’t do it😏 little did she know I can sew just had a machine issue so I went and bought a new machine and with these instructions I’ll get it done ✅ thank you so much🥰
This is why I’m going to learn how to use my mums old sawing machine again, I used to be able too when I was a teen I’m 41 now so that was many moons ago. Now I feel inspired to sort out my clothes and fix them properly, I don’t like getting rid of clothes if I don’t have too.
I love option 1 & 2. Going to try and fix a few pairs of jeans I was planning to donate because they were too tight. Thank you so much for starting this channel! I really appreciate all the advice on tailoring and garment repair that you share here! Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Could you do a tutorial similar to this one but for maternity? That would be so great to se a more professional way to adjust regular jeans for a person who is experiencing!
Thank you so much for this video. I've been sewing for a lot of years and do alterations for friends and family, but I've always said "No" to altering jeans. Now I feel I can tackle them after seeing this. I also have a number of pants that I need to let out the waistline and Women's pants don't usually have enough seam allowance to let out much. Like a lot of people, the pandemic has encouraged a lot of us to eat more and the resulting added pounds. LOL. I'm glad I found your channel and appreciate you taking the time to teach us.
Absolutely loved your voiceovers and the project. I listened carefully to every word. Your voice is very listenable. You are well spoken. Thanks for your time.
I recently thrifted 2 pair of jeans that are so “vintage” they don’t have any spandex whatsoever. Therefore the waist needs some expansion. You’re my go-to for alterations. I have the wide elastic, but never thought to join strips to make even wider. Thanks so much for sharing your expertise
I'm a beginner sewer and I got this video right after a friend came home asking for a repair of her pants... I got an idea from your video on how to fix the problem. Allah bless you and to you channel. Thank you
After watching some of your videos I have to tell you I absolutely love all of your tutorials! Thank you so much for sharing your professional techniques! I love your accent too! Reminds me of some of my aunts I haven’t been able to see for a while.
I have a few jeans I was going to give away because they don't fit. This is the perfect solution! I already have the elastic I need, and if I use technique #3 it will only take a little time. Yes yes...I know that #3 doesn't look as professional but sometimes I just want to get my sewing done and not take too much time on it!
Thank you! I have a few pairs of pants with waists I despair of ever fitting into - but the hips and thighs fit fine. This is such a great way to make them wearable! I confess I'll probably take the easiest approach, but wow, you make all three look very good!
You are absolutely right! The first one looks better, but the others look good as well. Perhaps with more practice we will do the first way too! Great job and thanks for showing us your techniques. You are a great teacher!!!
As someone who needs explicit instruction, the other commentors are absolutely right, such clear step by step instructions with visuals that show exactly what you are explaining, wonderful
I would use either way. I already added fabric to a couple of pants. I used very tight black underwear that I couldn't wear because the stretch material was too strong. It works, but it isn't pretty because I made it up as I did it. I only wear over blouses, so no one sees. Thanks for this.
Thank you for this! DIY videos are getting less common on youtube so I'm so glad I found this. I did the easiest method and it still came out looking really nice.
"the other side is professional...but this side not so much, but thats okay!" me with everything i attempt to do 😂. loved this video. i could listen to your voice to go to sleep.
Brilliant, just great, we have all at some time had to give away a great pair of Jean's that we loved wearing because we put on weight and they didn't fit us any more, hopefully this will be the answer, for me to re love wearing those Jean's again, as a really great pair of Jean's that fits well is hard to find and best of all, your video advice can save me money, I love that, what a great channel, I love sewing, very interesting, I really liked it I subscribed, I gave it thumbs up, I commented and I saved your videos to my playlist, thank you for sharing this and for making the videos, it's so very helpful. Laura in England.
@@DowntownTailoring Hello Ma'am, I enjoyed your tutorial I would like please you advise me on what kind of brand sewing machine is the best. I have a new brand SINGER heavy duty that can sews 5 layers of mezclilla and 60watts bout doesnt work. I have everything SINGER ahujas for mezclilla, strong & expensive hilo. I love your sewing machine is your tutorial. Please advise me!!! also thank you for sharing how to fix the jeans I loved & and learned the 3 easy ways cuz I love to sews heavy duty materials . Thank you so much for your time. P.S. I got suscribe in your tutorial web site.
So glad I found this video! A friend of mine asked for help to enlarge the waist of a pair of suit pants because he now has an ileostomy. He needs more room in the waist for comfort, and to allow for expansion throughout the day as the bag fills. This alteration will not show because the suit jacket will cover it. He specifically requested elastic if at all possible, so I believe this will work.Thank you so much. You are an excellent teacher!
Thank you so much. I used your method to allow my favourite linen trousers to still fit my aging and spreading waistline. They are comfortable to wear again, I am so happy...
Yes yes 😅 and yes!!! That's awesome! Real Boss work!! I love ❤ all 3 ways! Thank you so very much 💖 for sharing your skill set with this online community. Yay!! 😅😅😊 May God continue to bless the work of your hands. ❤
Your tutorial is excellent and well-presented. This is a great money-saving tip for the pregnant ladies who are “in between” where their waistlines are growing but they’re not big enough for maternity wear yet.
THANK YOU SOOO MUCH! Even for some of us who can sew, this is a great way to keep the clothes that you love , and clothing no longer comes with seam allowance, making alterations hard to do. Thank you.🎉
Hello! I'm glad you had this method! I bought a pant suit at thrift store! But the pants which I didn't check was 2 size too small. The jacket fits! God Bless You! Unipress/Ohio
I wish I thought of this long ago I’ve lost so many jeans to weight gain and now it’s happening again . I’m going to try this and save the ones I still love :) thank u so much for this tutorial!

That first one looked fabulous. The second one was good, and probably what i’d use. But that last one just didn’t have the same nice finish. You make all of them look easy 😀
Hi … at 1st glance both look great. But like you, I think the 1st one is worth the extra time. As a seamstress for many yrs I can say that clients may not know how to update their things but still want them to look great. On the other hand the 2nd one would be great to use on work pants & kid’s clothes❤ Thank you !! Katie
This was a clear explanation of all the steps, so educational! When I do a job, I like to do it well, so I definitely preferred the first method - so professional and really the right way. However if I felt pressed for time, I may use the second method which was still had a reasonably clean finish. Thank you for your time, i've subscribed for more 👍
Thanks. As I am not a professional, but I know a bit of stitching. This will help me to do some alteration of my pant. I like all and will try to work on it.
thank you so much for these handy technics, clear and precise explanations. I will definitely try on a pair of trouser, probably the easiest way, but I feel comfortable with the other way too which is not too difficult. Thanks for your time
For many years, my mom was a seamstress for Frances Brusters in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. She would take for otherwise a slim woman and alter the dress for a larger figure. She was very good at her craft. Although she wouldn't use this at Frances Brusters, she would make my clothes, shirts, pants, and jackets for school. Watching this video reminds me of just how talented mom and you are.
Thank you! I just got my son 2 new suits for church and his pants are all top tight in the waist. We were freaking out but I can do this! I'm going to go all out.
Thank you! I love how the first one looks but my sewing skills can only handle the third one. So glad that I don’t have to donate my pants now that I can make the waist a little bigger.
Thank you so much for your great video! 👍 you have the gift for explaining very clearly step after step! I used to be a professor so I know what I am talking about! I am a very bad sewer so I will pick the easiest way to make my jeans 👖 wider. I am also relieved to know that I am not the only one to put on weight at the weast even though I am slim but in my seventies! Congratulations again 👏
I'm wondering if using black stretch material from running tights would work just as well, like the really strong compression kind. That way you would have more material to work with and thinner seams.

What was the thick elastic that you showed at the end? I need to do this for my work pants because I can’t zip them up or button them. The because the sizing is so off the rest of it fits perfectly it’s just I can’t zip them or button them. I wash my work pants like every other day so I need a really thick elastic that’s going to hold up which one do you recommend, that I can get in the states. Thank you! Love you videos!
I love both but prefer the second one. A.) I'm a novice so fewer steps are better B.) They're jeans not pants/slacks so it doesn't need to be professional. Also, I'd probably use a colorful elastic to try and make the extension appear deliberate....by design 😊 Thank you so much for sharing! ❤
Would any of these techniques work on women’s trouser ? The trousers I Have are similar to the the video you have using the Royal Blue trousers to let the waist out … I would like to add a elasticity there on the side
Amazing! The 1st option is very clean and sturdy. Option 2 was good for a simpler fix. I wish i had a sewing machine. I'm looking for a by hand tutorial
I want to thank you so much for your RUclips channel . I am a first timer my granddaughter got me this little sewing machine for Christmas and I am learning how to sew OMG you really show me how to sew my old jeans that didn't fit . I did yours step by step and now I have 3 pairs of jeans 👖Oh I got a medium sewing machine now .. can't wait to see more of your stuff .
Hoping to try this soon - I received a pair of jeans for last Christmas and even though they were ordered correctly they came in a size too small for the waist area. :( hoping I can try this and make them work.
Not only is your sewing great--your soft melodic accent makes me feel like I could do it. Thank you so much.

I wash my work pants like every other day so I need a really thick elastic that’s going to hold up which one do you recommend, that I can get in the states. Thank you! Love you videos!
I think I got this elastic at Cleaner's Supply. It was long ago. Before the pandemic.
Thank you I was able to do the second one on a pair of pants. It helped a lot and made it easy and quick.
Excellent! I'm glad it worked out well 😊
Would any of these techniques work on women’s trouser ? The trousers I Have are similar to the the video you have using the Royal Blue trousers to let the waist out … I would like to add a elasticity there on the side
Amazing! The 1st option is very clean and sturdy. Option 2 was good for a simpler fix. I wish i had a sewing machine. I'm looking for a by hand tutorial
Thanks so much 🥰 I think I should make a video about it. Cheers 🙂
Keep the Videos coming...I'll definitely be watching and sharing..👍👍
Thank you. Your explanations are comletely clear and so clever!

Aweee 🥰 I'm so glad, comment like this, inspire me so much. Thank you 💞💞💕
Thank you for your help. Do I have to do both sides?
Hi. If you'd like to do just one side, you can try to insert the elastic at the center back. Otherwise it loses symmetry.
@@DowntownTailoring thank you very much for the response. It is so helpful. I’ll try to do it.
Hoping to try this soon - I received a pair of jeans for last Christmas and even though they were ordered correctly they came in a size too small for the waist area. :( hoping I can try this and make them work.
Happy sewing!
