I loved this lecture … he explained the good in every religion in such a simple way … “buffet “ .. pick and choose what you like 😋… don’t have to get obsessed or stuck on one “ not so nice thing “ example the hot 🥵 chilly .. .. and make no head way in life . I like the way he explains WISDOM .. is that part of knowledge that governs your life . As a non believer in God one can seekwisdom in Religion.. .. and lead a fulfilled life 🙏❤️
I'm religious but i'm fascinated by atheists teaching berause they are the fairest people to talk about regions on all sides without us being offended and i'm interested to know how theirs minds work.
He makes very interesting points that I never realize before. It is the way we try to understand people who has different view from us. Sadly, some people who claimed themselves as a new atheist think Alan is a Grade D speaker... just because he makes it easy for even 10 years old to understand ≠ simple, basic and stupid.
The interesting thing about this, to me, is the safety with which this gentleman is able to expound his ideas; not because he's in an open-minded society, namely America, but simply because he offends no one. His ideas are a threat to no one. It's all jolly-good intellectual stimulation, which surely must be good for you. it reminds me of these race-car drivers who spin their wheels when they're getting ready to take off, throwing up smoke behind them!--and the crowd is ooh-ing an ah-ing, waiting for him to explode down the tracks, racing against nobody but himself.
“Picking out the nicest bits”, I couldn’t agree more. Looking around it seems that most religions/faiths/cultures finds some absolute truth/s of our human existence. Even just by happenstance idk 🤷♀️
Imo, it'd be very hard to set up secular organizations that provide the benefits that religious organizations provide. Here's why. Each religion presents something that is greater than oneself. It's the acceptance this underlying idea that allows folks to behave in ways that make all the enriching benefits possible.
The audience questions didnt seem that bright. Its like they werent really listening and asked questions where the answers couldve been obvious if they just thought a little deeper.
Humanism is fine. I am Christocentric, however, I don’t care if Mary was a virgin. Also, I don’t care if the Davidic prophecies were met. My daughter is an atheist and I regret that she may not find comfort when she needs it. Finally, it makes me sad that she probably won’t experience a mystical sense of feeling that she is the center of the universe while simultaneously, she is just a tiny dot in the big picture.
Same thing with my mother who passed away in 2013 and still would have no part of God she wouldn't take last rites or even let me pray over her on her deathbed. And she died basically afraid. that's pretty sad.
@@susannec659 or it's real and human. Would you have preferred that she claimed to believe something/ anything to make you happy. Your comment, although 2 years ago, seems to suggest if she had claimed to believe as you possibly did/ do rather than being the person she was and not believing in any deity. Your comment also suggests if she had believed in a deity that you believed/ believe in that would make you happy and put your mind at rest. What is wrong with being afraid of not knowing what's going to happen, or afraid of dying. I'm afraid of the idea of dying as I'm scared of the pain which may come but that's completely normal and understandable. That doesn't mean I or we need a deity to make sense of the fact that we fear things we don't know. I mean no offense with my comments and I hope the loose of your mother has eased for you with time
@@herbieshine1312 Thank you for taking the time to notice my comment and reply. It means a lot . it was so well put and gentle. I see what you're saying, and you're right. It makes me feel better. Thank you. I'll have to listen to this lecture again.
@@susannec659 thank you for your pleasant and friendly reply. So often, on social media, you try to put your argument/ point of view and people respond with aggression and unpleasantness. I think we may disagree about key things in life but as humans we can share and explain our thinking and reasons for the ideas we have. That way we can learn about ourselves and each other. Best wishes to you
I think if you participate in religious rituals/ceremonies as an athiest, you reinforce ALL of a what a religious person believes in that religion. And, since most of the religious dogma is false, I think that such a act is a disservice to humanity. (I doubt a church would even allow you to participate in a ritual if they knew that you think it is was a man made ritual). An atheist religion is a good idea, in my opinion.
This lecture made a strong impression; so insightful, motivational and educational. This has to be reiterated from my side. Highly recommended!

It's sad that lectures like these don't get deserving attentions.

Alain has pinpointed why I enjoy Catholic rituals, yet find it all hocus pocus!

48:00 best part!
Historically, the first public schools were Sunday schools which were started to make it possible to read the Bible.

He basically just proposed inventing Burner culture.
Fortunately, the government began supporting public schools. Eventually, we even separated school and religion.
