  • Hi, everyone!
    In this video I introduce you to my new Chief Dark Horse! I only have about 40-50 miles on it so far, so my initial thoughts are all I really go over here. I will put out another video later on once I put more miles down and have a better foundation for my opinions on it.

    Ordered mine almost 2 months ago, hopowill be here by the end of the month. I’ve already read the manual and watched a few hours of reviews. Can’t wait! I did order the forward controls, apes, heal shifter and highway bars. First Mods will be mirrors and exhaust!

    Give it a while with the mids before you change them up. I didn't like them at first either but now I love them. I am thinking about doing something with the handlebars but I'm not sure. I'll tell you that Dean Speed makes a fantastic exhaust for it.

      Hmm, that's fair. I think I'd like highway pegs at the very least to stretch out a bit. Good point, though. It's possible I might get used to the mids. I have another 2 months before I can change out anything, so we'll see how I get along with the current setup.

    • @teed412
      @teed412  Год назад +1

      Hi, George!
      Definitely. Thankfully there are a lot of aftermarket exhausts coming out!
      The Super Chief Limited and Super Chief both have the cruiser handlebars, while the Chief Bobber has a pair of smaller ape hangers. The Sport Chief has the same bars as my bike in this video, but with added risers that could be made to bring the bars closer to you.
      Hope this helps!

    Beautiful bike bro, thanks for the video. I’m looking at a chief dark horse, hows the bike holding up? Any issues with the battery? Anything to look out for?

    • @teed412
      @teed412  Год назад

      Thanks! I appreciate you checking out my video! The bike is holding up well. Other than the recent recalls and smaller issues with the forks and other small pieces, there hasn't been many major issues aside from the Fuel Pump recall. I haven't had any issues with my battery yet, thankfully. I heard some others are having issues with their batteries, but mine is holding up well.
      I think the biggest thing to look out for at the moment would be the front fork clanking, any fuel pump recalls on the bike you get (could be solved with new bikes coming out) and maybe the headlight housing for any condensation or fog buildup inside.
      I would also try to sit on a Super Chief, just to see the difference the forward controls/cruiser bars make. I didn't think it would be a big deal, but they were something I immediately replaced as I felt very cramped on the bike. I am 5'6 with a 30 inch inseam and I even felt the bike was cramped up with mid controls and the drag bars.
      Hope this helps! If you do get a Chief, I hope you enjoy it!

      @@teed412 Dude you pretty much answered all of the questions I had, thank you for the detailed feedback. I'm looking at the Chief DH and the Chief Bobber DH, feels like the Chief Bobber DH has a more comfortable riding position with the mini apes and forward controls I believe. Indian is charging about 2G more (feels unjustified) for a different set of wheels/ tires, handlebars and controls (I like the wheels on the Chief DH a lot more). Also it would be nice if they provided the awesome digital gauge you have, on the non-Dark Horse models too (market strategy I take it). That digital gauge with nav and the tech is a must. I was looking at the Scout Bobber originally, this is a beautiful bike as well, but a bit on the smaller side. Not a bad warranty, 2 years unlimited miles. I haven't found any concrete numbers for extended warranty's other than "Price varies by model and term length". In my opinion these are some of the best looking bikes in the game.
      Here is a curveball, unfortunately I can only get one bike right now. So I've been doing quiet a bit of research trying to find an all rounder. So... I am looking at the GS 1250 (not GSA) and the Honda Africa Twin Adventure ES. The ADV bikes are of course a whole different category, but they are built very well with a lot of tech (including apple car play on the Honda) and durability (purpose built of course). Out of these 2 I think I would go with the Honda, much more budget friendly. Although it seems impossible to find it out here in VA.
      I like your upgrades on the bike, that seat looks pretty comfortable. Seems like there's some lower back support as well. What type of helmet are you using and which camera/ mic setup? The videos look great and audio quality is pretty awesome.

    • @teed412
      @teed412  Год назад +1

      @@THELASTRID3R No worries! Glad I could help.
      Yeah, I agree. I like the DH rims more than the spoked option on the other models. Replacing the handlebars recently cost me about $700, so keep that in mind if you plan on getting the base model and want to switch them out.
      The Ride Command system is pretty good. The navigation is awesome, I just wish it came with a few more perks. At the moment, I am unable to tell it to avoid toll roads and the like, so that is a short-coming there. Not sure if maybe I am just dumb and haven't found the option yet or not haha.
      As far as warranty stuff goes, I've got until this upcoming October before it runs out. I'm hoping I can rip through some heavy miles this year and work out any kinks hiding in the background.
      I agree. I like the aesthetic of the Indian motorcycles that are out right now. I enjoy Harley's appearances too, but ultimately I chose the Chief haha.
      I would love to ride an Africa Twin, but they sit so high I don't think I would ever be comfortable riding them haha.
      Thanks! I think the upgrades I've made so far I have generally been happy with. I've had a few comments on how the seat looks dorky or doesn't fit the aesthetic of the bike, but I think it looks fine. It definitely supports my lower back. As I have an office job, I sit on my butt all day... so I'm progressively developing stiff back issues. The seat helps keep my back in check while I ride, so I'm happy with it.
      I'm glad the audio and everything is good. I feel like I have been lucky with that. Right now I use a Bell Qualifier helmet that was about $110 or so from Amazon. I use a GoPro Hero 8 with a microphone adapter. I think Blockhead (other more popular motovlogger) has a video on a setup that I pretty much followed to the letter.

      @@teed412 nice thank you for all of info! It’s awesome that bikers like yourself are so helpful to others, it’s such a great community!
      I stopped by my local Indian dealer today (VA), they have a 23 Black Chief DH identical to yours. Man I’ve never seen a more beautiful bike in person lol! This thing looks so diesel in real life! The sales guy was pretty cool. He said he can get me out the door for $20,100 and if I wanted forward controls and flood boards - $20,700 installed (they don’t have any handlebars in stock). I know this will vary from state to state in terms of taxes and such. They are charging $1200 for freight and a $300 dealer set up fee in that out the door figure. The freight seems super high to me. Basically $19,000 plus taxes and fees for a total of $20,100.. I’m not asking your numbers, but does this seems reasonable or somewhat comparable to your experience? I want to make sure that I’m not getting ripped off..
      Lastly, they said $1500 for a 5 year extended warranty with unlimited miles (not sure if there is roadside assistance), this is in addition to the 2 years (total 7 years). Can be purchased anytime before the original 2 years expire.
      Again, thank you for the knowledge transfers and bringing so much value to the biker community!

      @@THELASTRID3R No problem! Glad I could help haha.
      Sweet! I watched the videos you linked. Looks good! I know there was a point in time where they were shipping the Chief Dark Horse out without the black exhaust, which was pretty disappointing to see. Glad you were able to see one the way it's meant to be.
      That pricing sounds about right. I don't mind saying how much I paid for my bike. Here's a breakdown of exactly how much I paid. Keep in mind that I bought this in 2021, so prices may have changed a little.
      Cost of Bike - $16,999
      Freight and Prep - $1,800
      Doc and Admin Fees - $175
      Sales Tax - $980.98
      Total - $19,954.98
      I put a deposit down, which was $500, because I had to order it ahead of time. I also traded in my 2013 Sportster 1200 for $4785. I know I could've got more selling it privately, but I didn't want to deal with that hassle.
      I also got charged $2.00 for a tire tax/disposal fee, whatever that is.
      I also got charged $84.00 for License/Registration/Title Fees.
      So overall, after putting all that money together, I bought the Chief for $14,755.98 with my trade-in and deposit taken into account.
      It seems you are getting a decent deal. I would try to work out how much the controls are worth, and see what labor rates they are charging. It should hopefully equal out to what price they are telling you. Without doing the math, it sounds pretty accurate to me.
      I had no idea about the extended warranty. I may have to ask my local dealer about that. Could be beneficial as I'm a little wary about how little miles I have on the bike and what could possibly creep up in the next 2 or so years.
      I personally use AAA for all roadside stuff. I upgraded to the plan that allows motorcycle towing, which is a bit pricey but you never know when you may need it.
      No problem at all! I'm glad I was able to help in your motorcycle journey!

I've been watching RevZilla like a hawk for any parts for the Chief but couldn't seem to find anything until just now. I know it is a touchy subject for some, the Harley vs. Indian scene, but I really like what the Chief has to offer. I hope this is an okay answer for now! I will try to get that video out soon!

      @@teed412 That's a great answer! My exact thoughts too. If I were to choose an Indian over a Harley it would also be those three points you mentioned.

    Just took delivery on mine yesterday. I was taken aback by the change in exhaust as I was expecting all black. If you go to this page ... www.indianmotorcycle.com/en-us/chief-motorcycles/ ... the older marketing photos show the original black, but scroll down and you'll see that the model options have changed the pipes to half chrome / half black.

      Hi, James.
      I see what you mean. I wonder what made them switch it out like that. Maybe it's cheaper, or it's faster to put it out with chrome instead of blacked out.
      I wager Indian has lost some sales due to the incredibly long time it takes for the bikes to be shipped out and delivered.
