Guys this is one of the most refreshing videos ive seen on youtube. Im from the uk and us in the west often have an ignorance / arrogance towards Russian culture. However you guys give Pelageya all the respect she deserves. I only discovered her music this year and she is my favourite artist and im not even russian. She is a godess of music. Thank you

I grew up hearing this folk song, but it never ever moved me. Until I heard Pelageya's version of it. Man. I cry every time I listen to it. It is so fucking epic. Especially when she sings the part about the wind. Ooof, get shivers every time. She did an excellent job of the arrangement by adding the guitar and rock elements. This performance was incredible!!! I thought it couldn't get better (I only ever heard the studio version) but it fucking did. Thank you for this reaction, guys!

It wasn't written in 1880, it was written down for the first time in the 1880s. The song itself is much older and has no author because it's a Cossack folk song.
Well, the words behind her says "The Russia Day" and that's probably the reason this is happening.

this is a very old Cossack song, known under another name, "Stenka Razin's Dream". Its roots go back to at least the 18th century. Razin was a Cossack chieftain who raised a mutiny against the tsar's governors on the Don and was also famous for his predatory expedition to Iran, from where he brought huge wealth. Thus, he became an epic and legendary figure among the Russian people. Razin was executed in Moscow in 1671. The song performed by Pelageya is dedicated to his prophetic dream - the loss of his hat in a dream foreshadow his death, i.e. the loss of his own head (Stenka Razin was beheaded).

"Oy, to ne vecher" (Ой, то не вечер) is the incipit of a Russian folk song, also known as "The Cossack's Parable" (Казачья Притча) or as "Stepan Razin's Dream" (Сон Степана Разина).
It was first published by composer Alexandra Zheleznova-Armfelt (1866-1933) in her collection Songs of the Ural Cossacks after her fieldwork in the Ural District during 1896-1897. The original title was (in pre-1917 orthography) Ой, не вечоръ, то-ли не вечоръ. (Сон Стеньки Разина.) The lyrics were reportedly recorded by "75-year-old Cossack F. S. Zh.".[1]
The original lyrics were in seven verses, with verse six making explicit that the dreamer is 17th-century rebel Stepan Razin. Razin has a dream, and his captain (esaul) interprets it as an omen of their defeat.
Ah, it is not yet evening, but I have taken a tiny little nap, and a dream came to me;
In the dream that came to me, it was as if my raven-black horse was playing about, dancing about, beneath the bold, brave youth.
Ah, and there wild winds came flying out of the east, and they ripped the black cap from that wild head of mine.

The song has been performed in several variants, sometimes expanded to up to eleven verses,[2] but in the most common variant as sung by modern interpreters, it is reduced to four verses, removing the mention of Razin and reducing the three omens in the dream to a single one.[3] These lyrics may be translated as:

A 2006 interpretation by Andrey Zheleznyakov[4] became known internationally as the entrance theme used by mixed martial arts fighter Fedor Emilianenko.

Using Russian traditional way of singing and text with modern musical interpretation. Those texts every Russian knows and sings at home celebrations. Когда то западные песни, жвачка и джинсы разрушили СССР... что - скажете не так? мы не имели возможности свободно обмениваться культурой, а запретный плод всегда сладок... И теперь я хочу, что бы и мир мог услышать наши песни, нашу музыку... Не все же только их слушать... Может и толк будет от этого...Запад привык слушать только англоязычную музыку, а вот теперь через инет начинает слушать музыку мира на всех языках... Может и это поспособствует когда нибудь миру и войн станет меньше...
