This band never got the credit they deserved. I saw them on their first American tour . They kicked ass. It was in Austin, Texas in 1977 at the amarillo world headquarters. Rock on budgie.
Luke Wells These guys were always popular in TX. I had a friend who worked at a stereo/record store. Very traditional place only carried jazz and classical albums. He would order albums by Budgie and Gentle Giant and early Genesis. I think he was the only one who knew what the music was like.
This was where I first heard this song! I then included it as the first song to play in the background of a video game I made in school where you played as Master Chief in a side scrolling shooter. I allowed you switch between 6 songs on the fly but, I would always cycle back to this song lol or Murmaider by Dethklok. The Brutal Legend soundtrack was excellent about 127 bangers
Brings me back to 1972😅great music was starting to hit 😂🎉❤ these guys. It was just a part of the Creech & Chong great times days, man, these guys on eight tracks, man. Oh man 😊😂😅😊❤
I remember my last ever acid trip was listening to some music of the time, and was having a bad trip until some one put this on, first 2mins of this i felt better, but when it came to the quiet melodic part i swear it was like listening to an angel crying, so this song stays with me, Thank's Burke Shelley
Wow, I first heard this song ages ago in Rock & Roll Racing for the SNES. Back in those days I didn't listen to metal but this riff got me. Thanks to Brutal Legend, now I've got it. Glory.
Went to see Budgie live at the Cardiff Castle one-dayer in 1976. Also on were Strawbs, Curved Air, Hawkwind and Status Quo headlining. Budgie as you can imagine blew them all away. Cymru am Byth. (Wales forever in Welsh)
Saw Budgie (BS & TB ) at my local pub in Bury ( Lancs) about 8 years ago. They were fantastic. Breadfan was the encore and I couldn't hear for days. Bouncing in front of them like a teenager. The Landlord apparently knew BS. One of my mates who camealong was a soul boy, but we didn't tell him who Budgie were. He was speechless. Grew up with them in the 70s and they were always massively underrated. One of my best music memories
They are not technically considered etc...?? They were absolutely ecletic, they could play blues, rock and roll, metal... as many bands cannot do today. And they did it in a great way! Every metal band and metalhead knows them..
"They are not technically considered etc..." yeah, exactly. anyway, I'd bet 90% of metal bands/metal heads only know Breadfan because Mecraptica covered it
Exactly! Good music just isn't in the mainstream, but it is out there. You just have to dig more, and with this wonderful invention of the internet, there is no excuse to say good music doesn't exist!
I bought a (schecter) guitar off him twenty years ago, hes a nice guy too. Never got the recognition he deserved, writing chainsaw riffs before anyone else. a real pioneer. all the early budgie stuff gives me goosebumps.
I remember seeing these guys in The Cross Keys pub in Peebles must have been around 1980. The place was way overcrowded and absolutely bouncing! Just the way it should be.
Budgie were way too early to be considered NWOBHM. They were, and still are, a great rock band. I saw them many times in the 70s and even then didn't receive the critical acclaim they deserved. Burke Shelly always loved playing Liverpool and they brought the house down every time. Saw them again about 2/3 years ago and still a great live band.

You are right there. I am fortunate enough to live in South Wales where Budgie originated from and was very lucky to have witnessed the great Burke Shelley and Budgie perform in many of our small cozy venues around the south in the good old days of heavy bands . The only setback was that Budgie were probably one of the best metal bands ever to exist but did'nt get the recognition they really deserved .
My dad did the lights for their show in swindon in the 60s and got offered to go on tour with them to do the lights but declined for some reason why oh why
The most furious in-your-face track from this fine, intelligent first gen English heavy metal band. My mate Col played this to a friend at work, who after hearing 10 seconds of it, rushed out of the building, jumped in his car and sped to the record shop to order the album! This and "Bandolier" are undoubtedly their best two LPS, but I think the acoustic "Wondering What Everyone Knows" is my alltime fave Budgie song.
I don't know why I slept on the original version or this band...I have to rethink my entire view of classic rock and I wish I had been around to see this amazing band live. so fucking good.
I think its a great f'in thing that Brutal Legend introduced so many people to heavy metal and brought a lot of love for metal back to our times. That speaks for itself, you don't have to agree - you can just live in denial.
Words can't describe the enormous influence this little known Welsh heavy metal (actually hard rock more than metal) band had on music in the 90's and beyond. I had the privilege of seeing them play live. Nothing artificial. They are the real deal, and while this is their best known song, their anthology is solid and worth a listen.

Sabbath were heavy for sure, but they weren't this fast, at least not in 73. I'd say they started getting pretty fast by say, 75 with Symptom of the Universe. Heavy, thrashy, stuff. Queen were pretty thrashy in 73 as well. Queen II, anyone? Ogre Battle? The Sweet are also awesome. Sweet F.A is an incredible song. I love all these bands. Not saying one is better. This is one of those songs you listen to while driving and then you look down and realize you're going 98 mph and you didn't even know it.
That's right, so Step on It!
in germany there are roads where you can ride harder than that! In the netherlands we ride 80-81mph most of the time.
ShagStars Productions, I often do that here in the USA even though I'm not supposed to :-)
You realized it when the acoustic part comes in.
yep, it's definitely a UK 90-100 mph+ song. Well spotted.
R.I.P Burke Shelley.
Very Underrated bassist in a very underrated band.

Any band that had The Priest as a support band is awesome.
Tony Wells me too aged 16 at the County Ground Northampton. Judas Priest supporting.
And I'd say judas priest climbed to greater heights just shows
That must have been an amazing concert to see.
