At the International Frankfurt Motor Show (IAA) in 1995 the company introduced the C 230 Kompressor, in which mechanical supercharging made peak torque of 280 Newton meters available from 2500 to 4800/min. However, the 142 kW (193 hp) four-valve four-cylinder engine required only 8.2 liters of premium per 100 kilometers (NEDC combined, 28.7 mpg). That made the engine about 20 percent more economical than a naturally-aspirated engine of the same output. In the C 230 Kompressor, each revolution of the mechanical blower’s rotors forced more than a liter of air into the engine. The C-Class managed the sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.4 seconds, accelerated from 60 km/h to 120 km/h in 11.8 seconds, and had a top speed of 230 km/h. With this car Mercedes-Benz revived a tradition begun in the days of Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft. In 1918 DMG first used supercharger technology successfully in aero engines developed by Paul Daimler, and in 1922 the first supercharged Daimler car competed in the Targa Florio in Sicily.

    For the peanut gallery, I got an 03 C230 coupe Kompressor w/M271 engine...
    The p0171 code has been intermittent since I bought the car in 2019 and aubsequently had a specialty Benz shop run diagnostics on it, fix some repairs around the work previously done by the dealer for the little old lady who owned it before her passing.
    When I bought it, I anticipated putting another 2K into it, upgrading the brakes, rims, tires, speakers & sound. I also bought some tools to do some work myself.
    The shop never found or fixed my p0171 issue so 20 mo. later I got around to checking for leaks into the plug holes before replacing injector 1 near the oil filler neck gasket/seal which the shop didnt find either. The shop never found small oil deposits into the 1 & 2 coils/plugs but I cleaned them up, replaced them with ease. My particular engine was well kept, it looks almost new and the codes popped over the two years I've had it are not too scary. I get the usual malfunctions for an 18 yo Benz, like bulb replacements, running the fuel tank low, lols... and I've replaced a couple of gas caps.
    I've never had misfires, I would have replaced the valve cover gasket as I did with my Tacoma. I have a good Mexican mechanic who I trust more than the dealer or specialty shop and I had him replace my purge valve and hose when the clamp severed the hose at the clamp. He did my lower radiator hose when the original clamps cracked the plastic joint (its 3 parts sold as one).
    My 03 C230K actually takes less oil on change than what the manual says to put in it. Like, 2/3 qt. less or 1 qt. the first 2500 miles post change depending on OW40 or 5W 30. .... The car used to leak about a 1/2 cup of oil everytime it had an oil change and when I bought the guy showed me the tiny oil pool on his garage floor but I told him I would have my mechanic find the real problem. My M271 engine has no indications of oil leaking anywhere on the engine. I use a scope, mirrors and I worked in a shop as a service writer for 3 years to learn autos.
    I checked for leaks under the rear seats before having the specialty shop repair my gas tank filler neck which is a common problem with the 05 C230K but I wanted to see if the shop was doing quality work. I had them replace a tranny mount to eliminate a vibration, also a pulley under the hood that my Mexican could have done. I spread the wealth, the car paid for itself Doordashing a few days each week 👌 I love my little coupe, its perfect for all the hills and highway loops in San Diego! I put some Toyo Extenzas IIs on it, some Vesus II rims, its so sexy when it rains.

    I kinda wish I had the coils on the valve cover. My 96 2.2L M111 has them under the intake manifold, with 4 wires going to the plugs.

    This is a great car and a even better engine. I have a 2000 c230 kompressor (germany built) for 3 years now and the car is a tank. As far as mercedes go, this car is very easy to work on compared to others. Thanks for the video, keep working on this old classic!

    Hi, I noticed that there are two rubber boots coming out from air filter. Where does each rubber boot goes? I know one goes into the supercharger, but what about the other?

    • @CountryShenanigans
      @CountryShenanigans  3 года назад

      The spark plugs used in the video were NGK Standard Spark Plug (BKUR6ET-10). They worked perfectly! They are available for the 1999 Mercedes C230 Kompressor 2.3L at this link: shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/ngk-standard-spark-plug-bkur6et-10-2397/19650099-P?searchTerm=ngk%20spark%20plug

    I have this car engine. I hate this engine. The car was given to me and I would never spend a dollar on buying one of these cars. I'll take a Ford or Chevy over these crap, foreign cars any day. By the way, your video would have been better without the porn music.
