I own zero bike-specific clothing besides a helmet, wind-pants, and lobster mitts that I was given this past Christmas. I'm the weirdo wearing jeans year-round on a bike, except for shorts in the summer.
this video was perfect night riding vibes! the cool, quiet nights with only your tires munching on the road surface was such good ASMR I never wear cycling specific clothes, I grew up on BMX bikes as a kid and only ever wore a helmet and some work gloves in case I fell so I just carried that over into adulthood :D I would like to invest in some wool clothing though, that mesh layer looked nice.
I've been obsessed with a wool knit sweater layer and a down puffer, keeps my torso perfectly regulated. Bought a bunch of old wool sweaters at the thrift.
I have little cycling kit myself, as well. Only wear it while doing real road riding in the summer. Also discovered that night riding is amazingly peaceful in winter.
Nice video as always! The only pure winter cycling equipment I have is winter SPD shoes cause my normal summer ones were just too cold due to wind chill even with double socks etc, otherwise I just wear normal winter sports kit and layers.
for us northerners, not using cycling specific winter clothing makes sense, because they're really not designed for such cold conditions. i'm a full lycra roadie during summer, but when winter comes i just wear normal winter clothes :D
The shoe covers are great and cheap. They even do just toe covers. You're right, its more about stopping the wind. Personally ive gone with cheap fleece lined cycling kit from AliExpress for winter, lovely and toasty for about $30
The only thing I have is something I recently made myself. I did cut one of those microfiber cloths and sewed it into the inside of a my shorts (so that the boys dont turn into snowballs).
IMO you just need to know a bit how different types of fabric behave. If you are going to sweat, you need transpirability. If there will be cold wind, you need to block it. If the weather is too warm, make sure you use light and fresh stuff that doesn't absorb sweat. Probably you already have good enough clothes at home :)
Smart thinking! I always wear glasses so I don’t think much about that. But I would rather ride without a helmet than without glasses, cuz of wind and risk of flies etc
My main problem is the only gloves I already have are fingerless, so it feels like my fingers are about to fall off when we’ve gotten -4 degree weather out of nowhere!
It surprises me that so many people don't get if they feel cold outside they should put on more clothes. Instead they think they need some very special kind of clothes otherwise they'll just stay inside.
Staying inside is never the answer! I wish I ended the video by saying that really any clothes are fine. I just use the best stuff I have around. If I had worse, I would use that.
Just moved from Texas to Colorado and I've been adjusting to the snow and cold pretty well! I don't have special gear either I just wear a thermal shirt and pants under my rolled up cargo pants lol
in Kansas i just wear the same clothes i would to go work outside. that said i dont ride on snow or ice much because american lack of healthcare. love your videos keep it up.
@@addvurtbikes Yet you do have Lidl in Sweden... The sky clothing from them is somewhat better and way cheaper than Decathlon. My favourite is Crivit 319106 low quality, yet very good when using multiple layers.
I rode in winter. I had running winter pants like bike pants that were like spandex leggings. But they were Mens running winter pants. I put that on with bike shorts and some thickish socks. My top I used a hoodie then a zip up that was a winter tennis jacket fit perfect to ride a bike. Then I had head winter gloves again tennis. My shoes were 5/10 shoes. My face I had a hunting neoprene thing. I had a poc helmet. I was warm. It was usally 20 degess out or less. But it was ok.
@ I have like the thick head gloves. But those you can like feel the bars great so I used the thin ones. My hands were always warm. And my legs were as well. And my upper body was good. I used a hoodie and jacket. Tennis winter jacket. It fit great. I got that from a thrift store. Another head product. Then I found a pull over. That was for ski’n. It did not work so nice. I stuck with hoodie and tennis jacket. My eyes. I used some Temu biking glasses I got. For 3.42. I got 3 pairs. They worked
We have similar weather in Alberta Canada. But to be quite honest, I am not as brave as you. I have taken a few spills on ice while cycling, so it is somewhat scary for me to ride with ice on the pathway. Snow doesn't seem as bad, because I can actually get some grip.
Sorry about the crashes. I’ve been lucky so far, and I usually take it pretty slow. Yeah snow is less slippy but it can stop your momentum and there can also just be ice under it!
I like your videos, but this one is a little disingenuous. I don't need bike specific clothing, instead I use clothing that is specific to other sports. If you live in a country where there is no cross country skiing, then in place of your cross country skiing gloves, you might buy winter cycling gloves. If you don't run, you might not have long running pants, but instead you might buy long cycling pants. Likewise the running shorts you wore. Again, I enjoy your videos, but all you're really doing here is swapping one set of sports specific clothing for another set.
I agree with you. You're right, I use clothes with similar functions from other sports. That might not be in line with how the title of the video comes across. I wish I had said some more things in the video, like how you can actually ride with completely normal clothes too if you want to, and that if you want to or need to buy winter cycling clothes, you absolutely should! Winter cycling clothes is actually good. I was just too focused on showing what I am using myself. I realise now that it's kind of lame to claim that you don't need winter cycling clothes when I indeed have something equivalent. I hear you, man! I want to do better, so thank you for the good feedback!
if you wear it while cycling it's cycling clothes 👍
Yeah, that’s why I only wear everything once and then throw it in trash cans :)
I own zero bike-specific clothing besides a helmet, wind-pants, and lobster mitts that I was given this past Christmas. I'm the weirdo wearing jeans year-round on a bike, except for shorts in the summer.
I ride in my jeans too! All my jeans are oily :D I have to stop eventually to keep one pair of somewhat clean pants!

Thanks :) Yeah, I quite like them, they make more of a difference than you might think even tho they have a million holes in them :D
2:10 you should buy wool socks, super warm and wool retains much of its heating capabilities even when wet.
Yeah you’re right! That is probably worth having.
I've been obsessed with a wool knit sweater layer and a down puffer, keeps my torso perfectly regulated. Bought a bunch of old wool sweaters at the thrift.
Wool forever! Maybe I should look at my local thrift stores for some too
I have little cycling kit myself, as well. Only wear it while doing real road riding in the summer. Also discovered that night riding is amazingly peaceful in winter.
As long as the wind is not too wild! It was really nice this time :)
Nice video as always! The only pure winter cycling equipment I have is winter SPD shoes cause my normal summer ones were just too cold due to wind chill even with double socks etc, otherwise I just wear normal winter sports kit and layers.
Thank you :) I agree that the feet get cold, even with double socks. Did you ever consider something to wrap around your normal cycling shoes?
for us northerners, not using cycling specific winter clothing makes sense, because they're really not designed for such cold conditions. i'm a full lycra roadie during summer, but when winter comes i just wear normal winter clothes :D
Oh, I didn’t even consider that winter cycling clothes might not be good enough for the climate.
I love my spiked tyres for riding on ice and hard snow. I have them on an almost totally worn pair of wheels.
Nice! I have never tried studded tires, but it’s probably great
The shoe covers are great and cheap. They even do just toe covers. You're right, its more about stopping the wind.

Sweet! Show covers must be one of those things that gets insanely discounted after the winter tho, like almost free :D
What an original content, like no other youtuber did videos like this..
They didn’t?

Yeah! I think so too, most people are already prepared with old stuff from other hobbies.
I am big in to mountain biking, cotton t-shirts are fine, safety glasses are pretty similar to bike specific glasses and a fraction of the cost.
Smart thinking! I always wear glasses so I don’t think much about that. But I would rather ride without a helmet than without glasses, cuz of wind and risk of flies etc

Rest in peace bicycle friend

Oof yeah fingerless gloves doesn’t sound nice. Treat yourself to some new gloves my friend :)

Head to toe aldi cycling gear cheap and works well in the rain 👍
Awesome! We don’t have Aldi here in Sweden, so I’ve never been to one.

@@CristianSpitz Are Lidl and Aldi related? They have similar names!

Nice! Sounds fairly similar to what I’m using. Is tennis gear warm?

Can you please give the name or brand of the "wool based-like thingies" (spicy)?
Sure! It’s a Norwegian brand called Aclima :)
Where is shrek?
Still parked outside my house, I haven’t taken it over to Felix’s house yet.
