✈️ CHECK OUT MY TRAVEL BLOG: davidsbeenhere...
My Indian food adventures in New York City continued as I linked up with a new friend to try more dishes from the subcontinent. Come with us on our latest adventure: eating southern Indian food in Murray Hill in Manhattan, NYC!
I met up with my boy (and fellow travel content creator) Steve Yalo to head over to Saravanaa Bhavan, which is the world’s number one Indian vegetarian restaurant chain! They have 100 locations around the world and sell south Indian breakfasts!
    👕 DAVID’S BEEN HERE MERCH: teespring.com/...
My boy Tasos also came along. He’d never had a south Indian breakfast, so I was super pumped to share this with him. Inside, we started with some Karnataka filtered coffee, which you pour back and forth between cups to cool off.
Their breakfast menu is huge! Then, we headed into the kitchen to watch the cooks prepare several dishes, including a huge paper dosa, a Mysore masala dosa, vada, an onion rava dosa, bhature, and more.
At our table, we started with the chana bhature, which comes with a huge, hollow puff ball called a bhature, and chana (chickpeas). There was so much flavor in the chana, which was thick and had a decent kick to it. The bhature was airy and full of air pockets. It took me right back to India!
Next, we jumped on the onion rava dosa, which came with sambar, mint chutney, coconut chutney, and tomato chutney. The flavors of the dosa with the coconut chutney were unreal. The sambar was also a punch of flavor!
The mint was also exceptional, but the coconut was still my favorite! Then, we jumped on the idli, which are steamed rice and lentil cakes with the same chutneys and sambar. It also came with a spicy chutney, which wasn’t too hot.
The idli was soft and fluffy like a pillow and the chutneys made it amazing. After that, we went with the vada, which is a savory and dense doughnut. The coconut chutney adds some sweetness.
We followed that with the paper dosa, which is flaky and crispy but still has some doughy spots inside. It’s great by itself, but the coconut chutney makes it!
Our final dish was the Mysore masala dosa, which contains aloo (potato) filling and a masala mixture. It was doughier than the other and a little spicier, and the coconut chutney contained mustard seeds.
What an incredible time eating a south Indian breakfast in Murray Hill in NYC!

A few years ago I found a new Indian restaurant in Kista, Stockholm, Sweden. Its name was Saravanaa Bhavan. I tried it and they had food that I had never tried before. I liked it and went there many Saturdays, and I recognize not only the food but also the plates and the metal cups in the video. Unfortunately they had to close during the covid epidemic and only the one at Sankt Eriksplan (see @0:43) exists.

South Indian cuisine is my favorite as well especially dosa. It's not compulsory to eat with one hand or use three fingers to scoop up the rice so long as you wash both hands before and after eating😁. Seen most Indians use both hands to tear apart bread, dosa, etc, and all fingers to eat rice. Myanmar eats rice all their lives and mostly with hands as well.

    • @karansharma2738
      @karansharma2738 2 года назад

yeah. but eating with hands is just so good. once you get the flavour of eating with hand. spoons nd cutlery feels bland

It’s once again great to watch David being a fab ambassador for India by promoting 🇮🇳 cuisine to the rest of the world . I would continue to reiterate that India has progressed and it’s very common to use both hands while eating Indian meals . Somehow you are stuck on that though you use 2 hands you recommend your guests to use one hand .. not required mate !! Else it was a fab Vlog and HSB as usual rocks !!

Finally u r eating my favourite Rava onion dosa 😍😍💖
In India we don't have concept of bottled sauces full of preservatives . We have concept of fresh chutneys which are so so healthy.
This Wada is called Medu Wada.
In every state in India u will find different kind of wadas. Wadas are made from lentils,or potatoes or veggies and are always deep fried. Served again with chutneys. Yummmmy !!
I don't know if you have tried dhoklas. They are very healthy snack..it's a steamed item. From Gujrat. Served with chutneys.
