The primary purpose for the hole in a pen lid is to prevent air pressure forcing ink down the channel of the ink tube when the lid is placed on the pen. Without the hole, when the lid is put on, there would be no where for the air in the lid to go, so it would put pressure on the ball in the point of the pen and force the ink down the tube, creating an air lock and preventing ink flow the next time the pen is used. I can't imagine shirt manufacturers adding a loop to a shirt for the purpose of college students to indicate their relationship status. This is an adapted use.
Your point on the pen cap proves my point on the video being stolen. First mind warehouse got it wrong, and then facts verse got it wrong also in exactly the same way as mind warehouse lol.
+Almero yes it would save their lives. its used for when someone chokes and cant breathe. they either get that much air until help arrives (which is more than enough) or die. you take your chances
ka da The hole was not always there. When i was a child it used to be solid. I remember pens that would not always work directly after opening the cap. Only after shaking and scribbling a lot. you didn't even try to understand what he was saying? there are three different documented use cases people have had for it, but it is vague to say which one is correct. I would say the loop in the shirt is used by the manufacturers to do something with the shirt before it's finished.
Thanks captain obvious, but vague and unknown pretty much mean the same thing, its not known. If you're not sure if you're even right, then how can you be so sure you're not wrong either? The students using it to signal they're going steady is pretty much like saying hanging a sock on the door as a do not enter sign one of it's intended uses. That's pretty much the exact opposite, its code.
Be cool if you actually would have done research and realized that yes, the loop on a shirt came from sailors, who used it to hang up their shirts while changing. Also, hangers are a pretty recent invention, not really used until the 20th century. The loops are, in fact, for hanging up shirts.

The hole in the spaghetti spoon is actually not for a portion. Its just the most simply way to make water drain. Some spoons have several small holes, or slits for this purpose. And the holes are of different sizes with different spoons. The Loop on the back of a shirt is also really just to hang it up, the school story is complete and utter bullshit. I could be wrong, but I believe with the spaghetti theory, he means when it is still dry. The amount you can bunch up and push though the hole is a serving. That part wasn't mentioned though.
The hole in the spaghetti spoon and the loop on the back of a shirt are actually for making people wonder what these dope things are for, meaning the smartasses who devised them are somewhere jerking off and saying: "I GOT THEM ALL! HAHAHA".

***** They also used to tie kids to their chairs in class using the loop. At least school in the 1970's was a lot better than school today with all the political correctness
3:18 the small pocket is actually called a "ticket" pocket. Levi introduced it for gold miners back in the day as prospectors were given tickets, as receipt, for the gold they deposited at the assayers
Interesting "things", a lot of them had unsatisfactory explanations though. The Cable Cylinder for example nullifies static electromagnetic noise? What would happen if it wasn't there? The Spaghetti spoon hole is to measure a serving? That doesn't even make sense. Of course it's to drain out the water. The Pencap hole is so that the whole cap is not absorbed by mucus? How does that work mechanically exactly? The bits of fabric that come with clothe can be washed first to see what they react to washing like? Does that make sense? Unless the color actually changed I don't think you could tell if the wash shrank or ruined your piece of fabric much.
I'm 100% sure that is exactly what it is not for. It does not take a genius to figure out a serving, It has been around for a long ass time. No one wants water in there spaghetti so it's only natural to put a few holes in the bottom of the spoon. Also no two brands of spoons have the same types of holes so its not consistent with servings. Some spoons have a lot of small holes, how does that help measure a serving? It doesn't.
I agree with you. What a lame lame made up reason for the hole. And worse... they didn't even explain the made up reason properly. If you went from this video, you would think they meant the hole was to measure cooked spaghetti. But it doesn't matter because it's bogus anyway.
Many people believe that a lot people speak English but this is not true. In fact; a lot people including one of the most intelligent people on earth don't speak English at all!
This just in, water is wet, people always thought water was wet because it's water, it was recently revealed that water is wet because water is a liquid and liquids are generally wet
They didn't explain the hole in the spaghetti spoon very well. By "measure out one serving" they mean measure out *uncooked* spaghetti. The amount of uncooked spaghetti that fits in the hole is the equivalent of one cooked serving. It's much easier than using a separate spaghetti measuring tool, which works the same way. Need 10 servings? Measure out 10 times. You don't need a bigger hole. Now I crave spaghetti. 🍝
#9 is wrong. The hole in the pen cap is to let air escape when it's being placed on the pen. Otherwise, the air pressure inside it would prevent the cap from going on all the way or push it off later. The hole is also on aerosol can caps.
@young... Seriously, think before you comment. It prevents choking by LETTING AIR THROUGH. There was a major campaign about this in the media when I was at school, previously they didn't have holes. Also at this time in history retailers plactic bags didn't have holes in them. Presumably you can't see how this would prevent suffocation either.
The loop in back of the shirt is put there for men that wore suspenders..I watch the old timers do it. Amish men still wear it like that. Among many older men that are aware what it is for.
***** I'm not sure how it would. The loop isn't nearly big enough and it certainly isn't high enough. And the Amish guys around where I used to live generally had them crossed around the middle of the back, not the shoulder blades.
BJGvideos Well rather it was for that reason or not i did see a lot of men at church wear them with the suspenders in the loop,Maybe it was like a brand name for the maker or something.Other than seeing the Preacher hang the shirt on a nail by loop before he changed shirts when he Baptized someone i saw suspenders in the loop, and i dont remember it being too high up or too big for the loop. Not saying i know the true reason just stating what i always thought it was for.
6,557,306 people watching this have a pocket watch pocket in their jeans, but about 6,557,223 don't actually have a pocket watch to put in it. We can help change that.
We're going to be doing a month long pocket watches only challenge at the office. Basically, the KTT team cannot wear a watch on their wrists for 30 days (except for filming and photographing of course. We will all only carry pocket watches during that time (month of October). You should join us!
“The design is quite simple: it’s made from therite and wrapped for its protection.” Most videos wouldn’t have the balls to mention something obscure like therite and then not actually explain what it is despite being an informative video. Kudos.
Ferrite bead*. If a device is susceptible to interference, without this your device will act erratically or itself will emit interference. Think radio antenna. It stops the cable acting as an antenna basically.
You're supposed to stick the spaghetti through the hole before you boil them. When they're stiff and straight the bundle should just barely be able to fit through the whole, and when you boil that amount it is the average serving size. I don't know about the shirt loop though.
Houston Nye 😂 I really would like to congratulate you on writing the word “embodiment” on your essay. You are now ten letters closer to the end of your essay.
Maybe now.... But original Levi advertisements prove its original purpose was for the pocket watch. Only pretentious modern douchebags would wear a waist coat with jeans.
Blue Jeans were originally designed by Levi Strauss as work pants for California gold miners, and the pocket was for a watch. These days people wear wristwatches , but that was the original purpose of the design.
I initially thought what kind of tyrant would make such a sweeping statement about dress. Then I googled images for "waistcoat and jeans" and saw that you were actually right.
1. the loop on the back of their shirt 2. the cyclinder on their laptop cable 3. the tiny hole in the window of a plane 4. the blue part of the eraser 5. extra eyelets on your sneakers 6. the hole in your spaghetti spoon. 7. the little pocket within the big pocket on your jeans 8. the extra scrap of material in your new clothes 9. hole in the top of pen cap 10. the snaps on the pockets of your jeans. there. don't waste your time like i did.
The loop on the back of your shirt and the little pocket can both be used for measuring spaghetti, But only if you're engaged, the fiance uses the shirt one, I think, also the little hole in the window is for Chinese people because they dont eat as much.
When I was in school, everyone knew the first one is a locker loop. It's for hanging up your shirt. Some people would try to rip one off somebody else and tear their shirt. So I tried not to get shirts that had locker loops.
It seems like whoever put this video together did not do any real research, and then they compounded the errors by being illogical on top of it. At least half of their 'real reasons' are not the real reasons.
Thats how most of these "things you didn't know videos" are. It will be mostly idiots watching them who will just believe whatever they are told and not look into it any more. They could have said the small pocket in jeans were first used for coalminers to hold pet mice back in 1887. It got very long down in the mines and coalminers found mice to make great compainions. So Levi Strauss added a pocket that allowed the coal miners to carry their pet mice. People would believe it.
I always thought the hole in a pen cap is so the air can escape when you press it down on the pen... pushing the pen into the cap would compress the air in the cap so the leave a whole to allow the cap to go on easier and also not createing vacuum suction making it hard to remove.... am I wrong??
I highly doubt that. The average pen cap only slides about 3mm before locking in place on the pen. No resistance due to suction or compression, not in my lifetime of using pens anyway. I mean, take magic markers, kids colouring pens (felts, as we call'em in NZ) and white board markers etc - they have to be air-tight so as not to allow the tip to go dry, yet still no issues with compression or suction in the lid.
"There is a purpose for it on the back of your shirt. There are actually three documented reasons, and it is unknown which is correct." It's pretty much downhill from there.
"If you were to swallow anything and get it stuck in your trachea, the mucus membranes will start to swell. The hole in the cap will keep it from becoming absorbed in the membrane." lol wut.
Maybe you're supposed to put the tie on so it's down the back...just slip it thru that loop? Have people been putting ties on backward all these years??? OMG hahahah
Fits nicely, just doesn't the oil evaporate even faster by keeping it that close to the body? I got a gas operated blue-flamed zippo, thus I do no longer need to worry about that.
in German tv we have a quiz show which is called "who knows that kind of shit" actually it would be more "who knows things like this" but the first option gives you a better understanding of the vibe of the titel.. anyway some of the facts here where actually handeled in the show.. like the thing with the spoon or the pocket
For #7: Well I use that small pocket for holding coins... I don't have a pocket watch but yes coins it holds best... So, there's still use of that small pocket... Don't get rid of it...
Actually, the rivets in jeans were initially a joke. Levi Strauss wanted something different and new for consumers and one of their designers, as a joke, added the rivets. They ended up liking the look of the design so they stuck ever since. At least that's what I heard a long time ago from a shoestring relative of Strauss who came to speak to my Cub Scout troop.
The hole in the airplane window is not there for passenger safety. It is there to prevent stresses on the plastic cover over the real window of the aircraft. Even is it does break there is no danger, and the inner window can simply be slotted out and replaced whenever it breaks. The inner window is only there to protect the outer (real) window from getting scratched, knocked and thumped by the passengers.
I was thinking the same thing about the little pocket. In fact a lot of people call it a coin pocket for that very reason. I'm weird and already knew it was originally designed to hold a pocket watch, so I have always called it a watch pocket.
yeah, uncooked, in the kitchen department they sell spaghetti measure things with different size holes for different servings, and on some spaghetti boxes they draw a picture with different size circles that you can use if you just hold them in your hand against the box to get an idea of how much your making, im old.
stclairstclair Oh that makes sense. Too bad the idiots that made the video didn't show it being used properly instead of having a spoonful of cooked spaghetti in the scoop when talking about the reasoning.
I don't buy their explanation. If they didn't put the hole in there, when you got to scoop up the spaghetti, it would hold water and then you'd dump it on your plate with too much water in it. It has to be for drainage.
#6 is entirely incorrect.. If I may, the space is there to drain liquids through - which is why many spoons and ladels come with slits or multiple lines. The conept of it measuring servings is an old folk tale and the usage does not even stand up to scrutiny, since many of the holes are varied and of different sizes. Sorry, just had to correct at least that one egregious incorrection... (I worked in a few restaurants growing up, including one high-end one)
@@briandazio3285 The spoons you can buy are all different sizes, some have holes, some have slots, some have multiple holes or slots. Or both. The portion thing makes no sense at all. If all spaghetti spoons were the same exact size, then maybe. But they aren't.
Brian Dazio I’m still trying to understand how a hole the size of a nickel could measure out a serving of pasta. Do you mean you stick pieces of spaghetti in until it is full, pull it back out, and then cook it??? What if someone orders rigatoni, or penne, or farfalle, or conchiglie, or fusilli? Wouldn’t it be easier to just weigh or eyeball the amount necessary for one serving. Me thinks the hole is to drain the water.
The loop is called a "locker loop" and was put there so sailors could hang up their shirts... the design was picked up by fashion companies, particularly those who made Oxford style shirts. I grew up on the East Coast near the Navy base and this is common knowledge around here. It's always facinsting to see what others find unusual. 😄😊
If you only have one hand free, you use your teeth to hold the cap and your free hand to pull on the pen. I use pens that 'click' so I won't need to do that.
I've always used it for helping to pull the shirt off. If it fits snugly on the shoulders I reach back over and pull it up from there. Comes off easily.
The people who did this video are stupid as shit. The hole in it is for the same reason as the hole in the airplane window. To regulate pressure in the pen so that it doesn't leak.
"The hole in it is for the same reason as the hole in the airplane window. To regulate pressure in the pen so it doesn't leak." wrong. For almost a century the tops didn't have a hole in them. It was child safety regulations. From BIC themselves ... "all our BIC caps comply with international safety standards that attempt to minimize the risk of children accidentally inhaling pen caps. "Some of these vented caps, like that used for the BIC Cristal, has a little hole in the top to comply with the existing safety standards."
Martin O'Donnell Hey good job copy and pasting from Bic's website. I too can do that. But I will copy and paste the entire quote of theirs unlike you. "In addition to help prevent the pen from leaking, all our BIC® caps comply with international safety standards that attempt to minimize the risk of children accidentally inhaling pen caps. Some of these vented caps, like that used for the BIC® Cristal®, has a little hole in the top to comply with the existing safety standards." Pay attention to the VERY FIRST part of their statement. The only part you happen to omit from your comment.
who would accidently inhale a pen cap?

The loop in the back of the shirt is for bullies at school to stop you and get your lunch money
When I was a kid in school the shirt thing was called a "fruit loop"
Bob Capps They used to hang kids on the clothes hooks with that loop
***** They also used to tie kids to their chairs in class using the loop. At least school in the 1970's was a lot better than school today with all the political correctness

The hole is to measure the sapghetti BEFOR you cook it. Try google spaghetti measure.
Martin Lyhagen
o that could be.
Old Aussie Ads They do make it seem like the hole is for COOKED servings. They just mashed this video together without any real research.

That's the accepted purpose as far as most people are concerned . This video is off the deep end.
I heard a cop said it was a coin pocket once. I've been putting my change in there ever since. 😯
yeah same
They didn't explain the hole in the spaghetti spoon very well. 🍝
Me too. Making spaghetti for dinner now. LOL
You use the hole to measure one serving when the spaghetti is dry.
In other words, before cooking.

#9 is wrong. The hole in the pen cap is to let air escape when it's being placed on the pen. Otherwise, the air pressure inside it would prevent the cap from going on all the way or push it off later. The hole is also on aerosol can caps.

@@coltranecoltrane3005 How the fuck does a hole in the pen cap prevent choking?
Correct

Among many older men that are aware what it is for.
now that's cool lol did not know that
It's too high up for that though. You don't cross suspenders between the shoulder blades.
BJGvideos Not true, It does work just fine, because of the stretching ability of the suspenders. Try it.I watched them wear it that way.

Same way a hole in a spaghetti spoon will help you measure out a serving. This whole list is fuck of shit.
You're supposed to stick the spaghetti through the hole before you boil them. When they're stiff and straight the bundle should just barely be able to fit through the whole, and when you boil that amount it is the average serving size. I don't know about the shirt loop though.

I think that could help with that. It might also help reduce the chance of explosion.

What the hell is your explanation for the spaghetti one? A quarter-sized hole is suppose to be a serving of spaghetti?
yeah, uncooked, in the kitchen department they sell spaghetti measure things with different size holes for different servings, and on some spaghetti boxes they draw a picture with different size circles that you can use if you just hold them in your hand against the box to get an idea of how much your making, im old.
stclairstclair Oh that makes sense. Too bad the idiots that made the video didn't show it being used properly instead of having a spoonful of cooked spaghetti in the scoop when talking about the reasoning.
a regular dish of spaghetti is 125 grams (4.4 ounces).
The explaination about the hole in the spoon is completely false
isel
That much spaghetti is enough... For a baby. I honestly don't know how that's a whole serving.
Its really there to measure a serving of pasta...you fill the hole with the uncooked pasta...remove and boil..that will equal one serving.
@@briandazio3285
The spoons you can buy are all different sizes, some have holes, some have slots, some have multiple holes or slots. Or both. The portion thing makes no sense at all. If all spaghetti spoons were the same exact size, then maybe. But they aren't.
Ok...im talking about the spoons that habe one nickle, quarter size hole in the middle...they are specific pasta spoons.
The little pocket is also used for change if you are carrying a bill in the big pocket and cash it in
The loop is called a "locker loop" and was put there so sailors could hang up their shirts... the design was picked up by fashion companies, particularly those who made Oxford style shirts. If you only have one hand free, you use your teeth to hold the cap and your free hand to pull on the pen. I use pens that 'click' so I won't need to do that.
Chewing on a cap would cause it to close the hole up..lol It's obviously for children.
Why does the loop on the back of a shirt help you tie your tie easier?

The loop does not make your shirt get immediately wrinkled.
I've always used it for helping to pull the shirt off. If it fits snugly on the shoulders I reach back over and pull it up from there. Comes off easily.
If you're hanging your shirt on a hook, you're probably having sex in a bathroom and DGAF if it wrinkles or not.

The hole in the pin is to let air pressure out while your closing it
some things like the snaps on the jeans for stability and the shoelaces should be obvious enough... but the pen cap hole doesn't seem logical at all
