WHY TRAIN IN DECEMBER?
Because my year is PACKED beyond belief. I need to be fit all year long so my build starts in December and leads me through October.
WHATS THE GOAL OF DAILY VLOGGING?
I want to push myself in something off the bike, I feel like ive gotten lazy and I need to work harder. So i will shoot, edit, and work EVERYDAY this month. I hope you follow along.
HOW DOES THIS IMPACT THE FAMILY?
I spend quality time with both my kids and wife all year. My relationship with my son is BOOMING, my daughter and I are best budds, I will show as much of the family interaction as possible, but just because I dont film it, doesn't mean Im not present.
IS THIS HOW MY LIFE ALWAYS IS?
No, Im a family man first, and put a lot of time and energy into my family. I will show as much of that as possible in these vlogs, but just because its not on film, doesn't mean im not with them a ton.

Man the free ride that the vegan cyclist put on was epic. I rode like hot garbage buuuuttt the vegan tow roped me to the top 😅. It was surreal how strong he is. The real surreal moment is how just of a amazing guy he is. They say never me your hero’s because usually your let down. Tyler is the real deal. Down to earth well when he not cycling across the universe to become more of a cycling god. No lie food was legit at stops. It was worth every moment. Go to his next free ride. -crazy mustache guy out.

Cost is making cycling an elites sport. When BWR came to Kansas this year I was excited. Then I saw it was $250. Even the short 40 mile ride was $100. Your free ride concept is what cycling really needs, not a new crit league.
I look for free or cheap local events, I’m not paying someone so I can ride 100 miles or run a marathon
I find this a bit hypocritical. Fees for racing are actually not high. But you have to race short circuit races, because they are a lot cheaper to organize. You want to ride 100 mile road races feeling like a pro? Well, you either have to turn Pro where costs for this are justified by sponsor deals or you have to pay the 250$, because that's what it costs.
You wanna do a big group ride? Just organize sth with your friends. Its not that hard.
Yep Tyler did a great job making it free. Not easy to do without a financial incentive. He just wants to ride and love life

You could get like 20 of those tow straps and give the strong riders a star for each rider they tow to the top of the climb. So like an omnium, the rider with the most stars (the most helpful rider) can be celebrated with bragging rights

Was at the free ride for the road portion w some homies. Didn't really know about vc before but seeing his genuine character turned me on to his vids. Very successful event. My friend flew off the road and vc made sure he was okay, gave us a place to wash up/stay, free bibs, and even let him borrow his bike so he could do his IronMan a few months later (his own bike was destroyed). Would def do another one.
My wife and I did the gravel ride and you put on a great event (I am crossing the bridge behind you in the part 7 clip). The ride was better supported than many paid rides we have done. Jorge was a champ.
Never thought of the logisticle nightmare setting up a Fondo could be. Big props for making it happen! Hell of a job

Bend Oregon is in desperate need of a ride like this, so much epic gravel available but all the paid rides break the bank.

Here in UK we have a fun and free event called "Ride To The Sun" a 100M overnight ride on the Summer Solstice. It's supposed to be unsupported, but in reality, lots of people turn out along the way to help us riders enjoy the experience. There's even a "Banana Rave" where a guy throws a big outdoor party and gives away free bananas.

I went to both days of the Free Ride! Tyler and his crew put on an awesome event. It was seriously hot on both days and we plenty of water, Red Bull, and sodas for everyone. My highlight of that trip was the last gravel descent down to Baesore and making friends I still keep in touch with. Next time, I’m bringing my mtb too 🙂

We enjoyed your free ride for many reasons! Primary reason was the group was awesome, seconds was bass lake is epic. This video was great way to understand the concept and imho this is a better business model than jamming 2K riders of varying skill levels together for >$200 entry fee. Much much better vibe on this one. Also was a fan of the party pace. Gave everyone a chance to get to know each other.
I'm late to this project, but glad I watched the video. Really glad you were able to pull it off in a way that didn't keep you from wanting to do it again. Really great goals _and_ execution. It sounds like everyone (including you) had a blast.
I'm watching Francis Cade's trip across the US with Justin Levene right now, and they're using the tow tube themselves on some of the more gnarly climbs. I'd probably be one of those folks near or at the back, but would want to get up the climbs on my own power if I possibly could :). I'm based in GA, but I'll probably find a way to make it to the FL event if it comes together and isn't in Miami. I'm an absolute scrub _and_ newb of a cyclist but I like to take on challenges.
Thought: if some people are motivated to donate, but you don't really want to take money, you could host a small charity fundraiser adjacent to the events.
WHEN (not if) you come out to Pittsburgh, PA I will for sure make the drive for that ride!!

I can tell you for certain, that I would travel from Portland, OR to ride in your Fondo. and I've never even done a group ride. Even better if you want to Create one up here. Hell, I'd volunteer to help setup before the ride, and help break down after. I've been a Chef as well. I'd at the very least help cook food if needed. To have the chance to meet you, the inspiration behind many peoples reason for even being there, and to ride with the "no man left behind" mentality, with like minded people would be an experience and a half. I'd be more motivated to get back to fitness just so i could potentially be one of the helpers. A year or two from now you might need to start selling your own "Vegan Cyclist" tow rope. Bro.. You're an inspiration.

Ali and I did the Free ride! I broke one of my wheels the day before so I messaged VC to ask him if he had a extra set of wheels, Tyler immediately offered to loan me his red CANYON aeroad for the week, so not only did he supply a awesome 2 day cycling experience in one of the most beautiful places in the world, he lent me a ferrari to do the ride with , shout out to Tyler for setting the bar for hospitality. 🤙

I love that you wanted to ride with EVERYONE! The tow strap idea is such a cool way to approach this. Having been the "towwer" sometimes, as well as the "towwee" at other times, it's such a FUN experience and definitely helps you feel more grateful for riding at all. LOVE IT! Makes me wish I lived close enough to come out to this. I'll definitely be looking for dates closer to my area.

The Free Ride is a great idea and I was glad to be a part of it by helping out on the first day. As part of the local club, you highlighted a lot of the cost involved in rides we put on. Even with the rising cost of everything now days we still try to keep our costs down but insurance, permits, food, Etc… all add up. Compared to rides like Gravel Locos or the BWR I think the C2K is a great value for what you get and a great option for anyone who wants to come back to the area. Keep it up Tyler, great job on the videos.

If you do Florida, check out central Florida in Clermont area if you want some rolling hills. If you want beaches and a ton of ppl to turn up just come down to Miami. We could have one or two sags most likely free of charge

You touched on grants from local tourism boards. Have you though about the same from the food industry... The Oranges grower group in California. The Broccoli board in Utah. Obviously I'm making these names up, but you get the idea. In a utopian world you could have produce donated by the local food growers and have a local cooking school or a social group create ride food from their products. Sponsors getting bang for their dollar.
On aside note, are you leaving yourself open to litigation if a rider has an accident ? Not trying to harsh your mellow buddy.

I organize free rides in Moldova, mainly in the range of 50km from Chisinau, so we can make it one day ride for the people that live in the city and want to get out and have fun. The rides are self supported, everyone takes care of his own food and water, but the good thing is that we have a lot of small shops were you can find the basic needs in terms of food and water. Most of the time I get to know new people, and yes, you did a great job supporting and helping the weakest/slowest members, with them is more fun than with the pro’s. I do cycling because it’s fun, and i train only for to increase my endurance and I can do more kilometers in one day so I can see more beautiful places in one ride. Cant wait to see your videos from your next Free Rides! Cheers!

I remember him announcing this and wanting to make it work. But flying for a few hours, then having to rent a car and drive a few more hours made me decide against it. Coming from Canada, the only one I would most likely make it to would be one near a major airport, or in Montana and I could drive to it. But I love the idea!

I had a similar experience with a ride that was basically $500 during the Maryland Cycling Classic weekend and all I could think was, I wish there was a free option for folks that want to just ride. This is my formal submittal for Maryland as your East Coast stop next year.
Wish you could do a free ride up here on the Columbia River, lake Roosevelt Kettle Falls, Wa. It is lovely on Sherman Pass.

I gave up racing as a current college student just because I couldn’t afford the whole experience. Gas money, registration, camping/hotel, inevitable bike repair costs from Jerry’s crashing you etc. Love the idea.

East Coast Freeride. Vermont - similar area to Rasputitsa, but in the summer when it isn't masochism. Quiet area, safe roads. Huge community, people will come from all over New England. Minimal overlap with your current email list. Do it.

I’m a Fredina unless my e-bike is charged then you would think I was in a race. Ask those behind me that get to watch my OTB moments. Lol. Always riding beyond my ability so bruised ribs and road rash are every few months.
