So, the old French couple are our neighbours, Henri and Genevieve. Henri is 84 and a lifelong cyclist. He was president of the local cycling race club for 26 years until just a year ago and stays involved. He's hugely supportive of us, our family, our business and Jamie's racing. He didn't race the 1926 Tour (if he had, he'd be about 120 years old!) but he did ride the whole of the famous hardest ever stage (Bayonne to Luchon, 205 miles, 23k ft) about 50 years ago, the same stage you guys recreated. In short, he's a legend and we love him to bits.
Luchon Bayonne is a classical randonnée organized, I believe, every two years. So if you are a simple randonneur (well, a good trained one), you can try the 320 km with the legendaries passes of Peyresourde, Aspin, Tourmalet, Aubisque and Osquich.
I’m sure you know this but your wife is such a special woman, and team player. What a Queen, she deserves the world. It’s hard to get anyone to see your vision let alone watch you live it out.❤
Dude there should be an own channel with stuff only about that last segment with your wife. I think a lot of people struggle having adventures while having a family with kids and communicating it. While i really respect your achievements as an athlete - it is your family dynamics i'm actually interested in. Thanks for sharing!
I enjoy watching your videos as a cyclist.... but I have even more pleasure watching them as a Frenchman! ;') even when you declare that you love Switzerland... on images that were apparently filmed in Châtel ;'p which is in France... But yeah, in Europe the exact location of the borders is not really a big deal anymore, which is part of the charm. Thanks for visiting, and sharing.
Sometimes i Forget how lucky I am to ride everyday in a place where people come from across the world to experience. Thank you for your awe and wonder when riding in the alps. It touched me
Europe is so awesome. I went there years ago and I remember the bike culture. Like, I do like to ride my bike and do the training and all but can you imagine the level of happines in my life if I can just go and pick my daughters from school in my bike. or just go with my bike wherever I need to go
Being French, from close to the Pyrenees, I am loving every second of you getting the buzz of discovering it. Like in the Impossible route, its amazing! 😁🤙
Riding Bass lake.. Riding Yosemite... Riding through France and Switzerland. How is it your head has not exploded by now??? One of those places would give me years of stories! You're in a fairytale! If it all blew up tomorrow you'd still be smiling for years! I'm mad jealous of those trips and all of the impossible routes! Incredible. Effing incredible!!
I wish you could do some haute route race in alps or pyrenees next summer... you could be in contention for top10... and its the hardest amateur stage racing in europe...but its basically kom racing and some descends are neutralized.. its like my bucketlist thing in cycling...
@@aidanmahony1681 I was thinking the same thing! I've stayed a lot in a small chalet in Chatel so was wondering whether there's another place of the same name over the border in the PdS...
Youre like a cycling Casey Neistat. I watched all ur stuff for 5 hours straight now and i dont wanna stop. Can not believe how much i needed this. Thank you and stay awesome
Tyler, I love your videos. I love them because you are genuinely stoked to be living this life and doing this shit and digging it 2x for everyone else who isn’t doing it. Rock on brother. ❤️
I wanted to tell you that I am LOVING the vlogs. After going into withdrawal symptoms with the cycling season ending, the vlogs gave me (us cause my guy finally realized these are fun) something to hang on to.
I did something very similar but at the Giro. Yep, being in the moment, up the Stelvio I realised that all my years on a bike , training, racing and just riding was all for that moment . I wept with joy. I live ,at least try to . Live in the moment with every breath and its because of riding and my relationship with it ( riding) made me value every second I have on this earth . Your Vlogs never disappoint. Thankyou so much.
So great to see you living out your dream VC, but also getting to experience your profound appreciation for what you've achieved and the love you have for your supportive family. Thanks for sharing, Tyler ;-)
As a female/wife (your wife is a woman of few words), there are times when it should be a boys trip. No wife, no kids. She said it well that if she really wanted to go it would have been possible. She's just awesome and recognizes the importance of you having your own experiences outside of being a family man. It goes for both sides, but she clearly understands the value of what you are doing. Lucky, lucky, man.
I live alone,. But iif I would live with someone, I wouldn't go on holiday together. It is like spending time with coworkers after the job is done. My body and soul don't need that.
Was in France twice last year for some cycling. Was wonderful. The secret to navigating the French is quite simple. You MUST ALWAYS greet everyone with a “bonjour’. If you don’t, they consider it to be very rude and insulting, and you will be treated rudely in return. I found the French people to be very warm and accommodating to my lack of language skills. (At least while I was still in their company.)
Love the daily vlogs. I'm sure it's an absurd amount of work for you but it sure is appreciated. Love the big projects as well. Maybe in 2023 you could just supplement with a weekly vlog or something so we don't only get to see you eight times. YUUTT
December has four highlights for me: Doing the Marcothon run challenge (min 5km run every day), the Rapha Festive 500, Christmas with family in Germany…. AND your daily VLOGS, absolutely love the authenticity and content, keep it up 👍
years ago I would go to France with a bike tour company during the TDF. the tour operator got us access to the TDF race courses...we would ride sections of the race course about 3hrs before the race came through. I only went for the Alps stages...riding in the mountains there was amazing...riding the race courses lined with spectators was a bonus. I totally understand what you were feeling
1) I had the opportunity to do Alpe D'Huez..... I was so full of joy and happiness, I too wanted to bottle up that feeling too. 2) Enroute to Alps D'Huez, no body spoke English, I now know what non-English speakers must be going through when in US. 3) Its amazing that your wife supports you
So good to see you in France ❤️ But maybe less 1% of the population is able to speak english, so it really hurt us to welcome foreign people the good way... But still the best place to ride bikes. Love from France Tyler
I think its more like 1/4 to 1/2 of population speak french. Ive spend cumulative about 1 year in Annecy, Alp D'huez, Grenoble, Nice, Paris, Reims/Epernay, and nearly everyone I spoke to was fluent in english.
@@robp.8807 you've been extremely lucky 👍 we are the worst to learn foreign language (due to shit scolar system) in Europe. The village of Châtel (with Thibault Pinot) is in France, near the border with Switzerland, but still in France... Such an inspiration bro. I've been training hard for years now and you got me VIBING to take it up 10 notches. Doing Downieville Classic again this year and hoping to crush my previous time. Hope to be able to ride with you one day. (I don't live too far from you) Anyway, question, what protein powder you use? I'm guessing it super healthy and natural and that's what I'm looking for.
