    dude, i have been struggling with my unlock button on my drivers side since i bought the car. sometimes it would work, sometimes it wouldnt. i kinda chalked it up to being a quirk of the car, the passenger side just straight up didnt work. after watching this i thought, meh, i think i can do that. went in, cleaned the terminal and i swear i heard angels singing as i pushed the button back and forth and it worked. i go and try the other side and find out THE WIRE WASNT EVEN ATTACHED TO THE BUTTON!!! I clean the terminals anyway, reattach the wire and boom, that side works now too. Thank you so much for making this video. maybe now my wife wont hate driving my "quirky" car.

    I have a 2011 Mazda3. You just saved me a bunch of money. It took me a while to pry the clips open. I ended up using bits from a precision screwdriver set to hold some of the clips open while I worked on the others, as others suggested. The lever mechanism for the lock/unlock switch in the 2011 Mazda 3 is a little different but your video still helped me figure out how to get everything back together.

    Been dealing with this lock issue for years. Thanks man. Worked like a charm. Broke a couple of the small black rails but nothing a little super glue couldn’t fix. Cleaned the contacts with cotton swab and small amount of contact cleaner and reinstalled. Locks and unlocks from inside of my 2010 Mazdaspeed3 perfectly.

    This absolutely worked for my 2013 Mazda 3. Only the passenger side door lock switch was working, and not the driver for some strange reason. I figured I would try to clean the contacts after watching this video before I bought a new lock switch. Worked like a charm! I cleaned the contacts using a small flat head screw driver. Then used a cotton swap with rubbing alcohol to finish it up. Worked immediately! Thank you!

    Sooo grateful for this video. I work at a car production plant on the Doorline. I have a better understanding of functions within the panel. I used my knowledge I learned from work and applied it to my own car! Turns out the pins were bent in the lock switch! I lined them up correctly and got the switch working better than when I first bought the car (it would only unlock SOMETIMES). Now I am able to lock and unlock using the switch

    Thanks, man, this video laid it out perfectly. In a little under an hour (most of the time was spent trying to pry the clips open without breaking them, like other commenters have said), I went from two non-functional switches to two working ones, very satisfying.
    I was actually kind of shocked it worked because when I did get them open, I couldn't really see any debris or significant corrosion on those gold contacts. But I got in there with some WD-40 electrical contact cleaner on a Q-Tip and sure enough it got them working again. Really appreciate folks taking time to put content like this on YT.

    I will give that a try, thanks. For those who are clumsy like me you might want to take that apart at ground level over a large sheet of newspaper just in case it does come apart and you don't loose any small parts falling and disappearing like it is so easy to do.
    Edit, I did not have the compact right angle Phillips screw driver to remove the screws but made one out of a 1/4 inch ratchet drive, a 1/4 inch socket, and a Phillips bit that fit into the 1/4 inch socket. Repair done in a cold garage, I heated the switch up in front of a space heater to soften the plastic a bit, 4 very small nails were wedged into switch to help hold up the sides, small screw driver gently pried the switch apart. Used a Scotch Brite pad to carefully clean both sets of contacts. Switch works like a champ now, thanks.

    A couple of things to note:
    1) The plastic cover behind the door handle is meant to be released from the back side. While you can open it from the front, you will likely put a lot of stress on the clips, possibly even breaking them. Go easy.
    2) On my car (2012 Mazdaspeed 3), the driver's side door lock switch does not have a blue piece, just two clear pieces. It does not matter which way they go back together.
    3) Do not scrape the contacts with a screwdriver. They are gold plated to prevent corrosion, and if you scratch the gold off, they will rust and eventually, fail completely. Instead, use isopropyl alcohol (highest concentration you can get so it evaporates quickly), and a cotton swap (Q-tip). This will prevent any accidental damage to either contact pad.

    • @JunkyardJunkie
      @JunkyardJunkie  2 года назад +3

      Ok so to your first point do you mean you should pry from close to the locks or the door handle? Because I’ve always pulled it off as shown in the video. Right by the door handle (you saw me finish pushing near the locks but it was already loose so didn’t matter at that point.).
      2: mazda 3 speed always has small differences but it is good info for anyone watching that has the speed 3.
      3: your method is defiantly a better method. but, a light scrape to get off any debris isn’t going to hurt it.
      Thanks for watching!

    This also works on a 2012 Mazda CX-9. Info: I do not have a key fob, just an aftermarket key. The drivers door would not lock while inside the car or using the key in the door while outside. I thought it would need a new door lock actuator. I saw this video and tried this on my car. I cleaned the contacts with alcohol and now everything works like is is supposed to. All four doors and the hatch lock and unlock. Thanks so much for this video!!!!!

    This hack worked on 2013 CX-9. The driver side switch was intermittent but the front passenger side lock switch was operational. Once opened up, dirt was visible on the upper contact. Note it can be done without removing the interior door panel, but a thumbwheel ratcheting screwdriver would help. Ya using iso is the smarter choice. If I redid the video that’s what I would have shown. All of them usually look clean but, it works to do this about 90% of the time.
      My gf does so I have a few videos out. Have a transmission removal video. I have some more coming for it like making the headlights tied to a relay to auto shut off with the key. I also have a remote start video coming a little later on. If there’s anything you want to see I can make videos on it. Thanks for watching!

    Great video! I have not taken my 2008 Mazda 3 apart yet, but have a question. Neither the driver or passenger door lock/unlock work via the switches OR the FOB. Both rear door locks work. Checked the fuses, both are fine. Can it still be the switches, or will it be actuators instead, being as the FOB doesn't lock/unlock them either?

    My switch wasn't working but looked clean as a whistle. I wiped the contacts with a piece of cloth, reinstalled the switch and it's working just like it should. Prying the switch apart isn't easy. I recommend using two thin blade screwdrivers - one to hold the plastic above the post while you pry up the one along side.

    • @georgesteffens7489
      @georgesteffens7489 Год назад

      @@JunkyardJunkie it seemed to, but I have a feeling this was a dumb luck coincidence. The only thing I can figure is the switch/circuit that throws that code was about worn out before I cleaned the switches, and then a few rapid fire tests of the switches (lock, unlock, etc) finished it off. There was nothing I could have specifically done to ruin it. So I dug around Google and found a diagram and flow chart from Mazda for that very code. The only answer is the actuator/latch has now failed. But that actuator has multiple circuits in it, all sharing power and ground. There are circuits for the locking and unlocking. There is one circuit for simply the dash "door ajar" light. There is another circuit which registers to the BCM that the door is locked, and this is the circuit which failed. So since all other functions are fine, I'm leaving it alone until we have the cash for a brand new OEM actuator. Fun stuff!

    In most cases, it's the driver who presses the button too hard! It's not dirt that sticks to the contacts, we know that the black ‘pads’ have a conductive coating that makes electrical contact between the pad and the small circuit, I know what I'm talking about anyway.
    The pad in question has a black coating that must never be removed, and if the conductor weighs too heavily each time, the pad will either break in the long run, or it will no longer have any special coating, and rather than change the rubber thingy, you'll have to buy a bottle of coating (the name doesn't come to mind) and apply it to the end of the pad (whether it's blue or green or black, it doesn't matter what colour the rubber is).
