Another truly FAB tutorial Joanne! I can't wait to start this one! Just love the color palette you've used and the loose, but still plenty identifiable details you've used. I followed you years ago Joanne then life took over and I diverted from watercolour to acrylics. But Im back and how I love this kitten!!!

I do like a kolinsky sable, they are a bit pricy but if you look after them they will last years.

I love thisJoanne, never attempted animals before, but definitely going to give this a try...you’re so informative on these tutorials, could I ask about brushes please I haven’t got any real hair ones, but watching you with your sable brushes they look to hold a great point and also they seem to hold the water well... Thank you for all your watercolour guides I’m definitely addicted 😁
That is a great question
Although I own sooo many brushes I find myself only using around 3/4 of them.
Here are the brushes I would recommend
Rigger or sword brush perfect for fine linear mark making such as branches of tree or tall grasses.
A size 12 10 and 8 round brush. I do like to buy a good quality brush so would recommend a Pure kolinsky sable, Isabey are a great make as are Da Vinci and escoda. If you prefer not to use natural sable/squirrel they also produce great synthetic brushes but in my opinion natural hair brushes are superior to synthetic hair brushes for liquid holding capacity and producing a fine point when wet.
I also would recommend a flat brush around size 10 I don't use this brush very often but it is a great brush for laying a nice flat wash
Always buy the best you can afford and look after your brushes, this way they will last for years, always reform a damp brush to its original shape with your fingers and let it dry on a flat surface such as a dry terrycloth hand towel and never leave it sitting in water 💧

What do you mean by keeping your values correct?
I am referring to Value aa the term used to describe just how dark or how light areas and objects are within your painting.

I’ve read the transcript, but I’m not sure I have the taping method understood correctly. Is that a paper masking tape you are using? And is there a risk of the tape adhering to the paper? Thanks.
Yes its masking tape! I don't have a problem with it sticking to the paper if I don't press too hard. You can also use a hairdryer to lift it away from the paper
