Cheers Tony, glad you enjoyed. That sky in the morning was one of the best I've seen and I couldn't resist getting it on film, although the weather quickly deteriorated ha. Nice easy mark is St Brides and it can produce some good fish on its day. Was more than happy to give you a mention, your channel is doing great and I always look forward to watching your videos, easy going and relatable content. Have a good Sunday mate and tight lines for your next session 👍🐟👍
Thank you Wayne, that's nice of you to say. The fishing is hard work at the moment but hopefully it will improve within the next few weeks. Still nice to get out though, always enjoyable. Have a good weekend 👍👍
Awesome video buddy, and great editing again. Amazing how the weather changed during the session. Massive well done on a couple of codling. So nice fishing in daylight, just a shame I never seem to do well. Big thanks for the mention mate, much appreciated. Take care dude 👍👍👍🙏
Cheers Dylan, appreciated as always bud. The weather was stunning when I arrived but within an hour it changed dramatically. I just about managed to hold onto the camera tripod haha. Because the water is colored, the fishing in the daytime is as good as the night but going further west towards Porthcawl/Swansea when the water starts to clear, night fishing is always best. No probs, was more than happy to give you a mention, your channel will continue to fly! Tight lines for your next session, have a good weekend mate👍👍🐟
High Gareth. Another very enjoyable video. I think it was worth going out for the beautiful sunrise and rainbow. For me with scenery like that the fishing almost comes second. Shame it got so windy later on but what a lovely place to fish.
Thank you David. Yes definitely, that sky first thing made the session for me, one of the best I've seen down there. The wind towards the end was a little tricky and the camera tripod blew over on a few occasions ha! Struggling to catch the fish at the moment, February is never an easy month. Hopefully my luck will change soon. Cheers as always 👍👍🐟
Awesome vid as always Gareth buddy✌thanks for the shout mate, your a Legend, havent been able to get out myself, with work gutted, cant wait to soak a line, hopefully get out mid week stay safe buddy see you on the rocks👍👍
Thank you Matt. An enjoyable session, even though I was getting blown away towards the end ha. As for the shoot out, no problem...your channel will continue to do well, keep it going! Shame you've not been able to get out, I feel your pain...I have some lovely Ragworm in the fridge and wanted to go today but the weather is shocking. Won't get a chance until next weekend now, frustrating isn't it!! Will look forward to your next one, take care matey 👍🎣👍
Thank you Jack, appreciated as always. That wind towards the end was nasty and I had to weigh the tripod down with 7 ounce leads ha. Hopefully the fishing will pick up soon, hard going at the moment...well for me anyway! Cheers bud 👍👍
Hiya Leighton, nice to hear from you again. Yeah difficult fishing but thankfully a couple of small ones turned up ha. An enjoyable session though and the sky in the morning made it for me, that was cracking. Cheers as always, have a good weekend 👍👍🎣
Thank you Andrew, nice to hear from you again. Yeah nice easy mark, ideal after a tough week at work. That wind was hard work towards the end of the session, the camera tripod blew over on a number of occasions but thankfully no damage done ha! Cheers for watching mate 👍👍
Saint Brides, it must be 30+years since I fished there. I may give it a go, (Newport born Newport bred, etc etc), 2 straps and a Brill for me today down Barry, no mud. Inspirational videos mate, keep them coming.
Hi David, well done on your 2 straps and Brill...I don't think I've caught a Brill before although I've had quite a few Turbot. I had a day off work today and was going to fish the Knap but didn't end up going, fished Goldcliff instead and only had a couple of bites. Yeah give St Brides another crack, it can still throw up a few surprises. Cheers for watching mate 👍👍
Cheers Carl. Yeah that wind towards the end was a challenge to say the least ha. An enjoyable little session though and thankfully a couple of small Codling turned up...they all count at the end of the day. Thanks for watching bud 👍👍
Thanks mate, appreciated. Haha it certainly did, the sky was beautiful when I arrived but about an hour later it all kicked off and the wind was tricky to say the least. Thankfully a couple of blank savers turned up and it was an enjoyable session. Cheers as always 👍👍
Great video again Gareth. One of the top ones on RUclips. Those gready coding will take any bait. Unbelievable. Really bad conditions but fair play you caught some fish. Well done. 😃🐬🐬
Thank you Neil, appreciated as always. Yes they certainly will, I've even caught them on Earthworm in the past, although I was grateful that a couple turned up on this session given how tricky the conditions were ha. Nice easy venue though and I needed that after a tough week in work. Cheers for watching, have a good weekend 👍🐟👍
Great video as always love st brides especially on a summer evening with my girls how come those little codling never show up when theyve reached three pounds plus .love the way you make the venue look very attractive.to the eye look forward to the next one cheers👍
Thank you Michael, appreciated as always. Yeah I often wonder the same, I suspect a lot of them move into colder waters as they grow a little bigger and a lot probably get caught in nets, shame really. Lovely mark isn't it, nice and easy too and I can understand why you like it there during the summer with your girls. The sky in the morning was one of the best I've seen down there and I couldn't resist getting it on film, stunning. Cheers mate 👍👍🐟
Thank Stu. I managed to beat the blank and I was happy with that given the conditions ha. Really hard going at the moment along the channel but I think it will pick up come the middle of March. Cheers as always 👍👍🐟
@@stuwelshcoastangling6612 It certainly is. I had a day off work yesterday and had a pleasure session at Goldcliff. I had 2 bites all day, very quiet. Let's hope it changes from mid March onwards 👍
Fantastic video again mate, I use to fish that mark at night, rats stealing our bait lol. I love fishing cold Knapp to the left near the rocks, big congers, rays, millions of dog fish but I enjoy catching them.
Cheers Les, I appreciate it. Haha yes the rats, they are still there in force, I fished a night tide there a couple of weeks back and I tried to film one taking my bluey, quiet funny really. Yes the Knap can be very productive on its day, I'm planning on going back there soon...I will be happy with a few Dogfish, at least they provide a good bit of action and they can often be blank savers. Many thanks for watching 👍🐟👍

keep up the good work on the videos,i fished goldcliff a couple of weeks ago loads of bites but just one very small codling, but always nice to be out fishing
Thank you Craig. Yeah it's hard going at the moment, I think we're all struggling to be honest. Hopefully things will start to pick up during the next few weeks. As you say though, it's just nice being out there, that's what it's all about. Cheers for watching 👍👍
Hi gareth you ok mate. Another cracking watch , love the channel . I have had a few the same size up here on the humber. Looks good for the future iff the trawlers dont find them. All the best from grimsby.
I'm good thanks Carl, hope you are too. Yeah it's always good to see the small Codling but as you say, let's hope that most of them don't end up in a net! This time of year we get a lot of them down here as the shallower water acts as a nursery for them. Cheers for watching and hopefully see you on the next mate 👍👍
Cheers Gary, hope you're keeping ok. The weather was shocking but I was happy to beat the blank with the small Codling ha. I might try and get out Sunday if I get the chance. Thanks mate 👍👍🎣
Hi Ian, yeah was a tough old session but thankfully a couple turned up ha. The wind towards the end made it difficult but I still enjoyed it. A cod is a cod mate and at least you've caught one, even though it was 6 inches long and great that you had it on LRF gear, bit of fun. Cheers for watching 👍👍
Hey Gareth, seriously impressed with the photography this video. Nice shots of the rocks around 10:07-10:12 ish and lovely well thought out shots. A few questions… Do you ever take a shelter with you? Do you ever blank or is I just me? Ha ha what fixed spools were you suing and why not the multi’s this outing. As always, I enjoy your work and can’t wait to get out myself and try out some of the venues you’ve been showcasing for us. Take care and keep them coming 👍Clive
Hiya Clive, nice to hear from you again. Thank you, I'm no expert when it comes to filming/photography but I do try and capture my surroundings as I like to make something nice to watch. When I arrived, the sky was amazing, one of the best I've seen in 35 years of fishing. No I don't use shelters, I've never used one but now that I'm getting a little older, one could be on the cards in the near future. To be honest, I fancied using the fixed spools on this session as no need to cast far at this venue. One is a cheapo Masterline which was given to me and the other is a KCN size 10000, decent reel. I love my Abu multipliers and rest assured they will feature in the next video ha! Oh I blank, I blank a lot but I've been lucky with the fishing videos...I think I've made 17 or so videos and only had 2 blanks, or something like that anyway. I had a day off work today and fished Goldcliff...I had 2 bites in 6 hours and I blanked, still nice to get out though. Hope all is well with you, many thanks for watching 👍👍
@@fiskrond9212 Yes mate, spot on. I tend to mix and match but stick to the fixed spools on the rocky marks or when long casting is not required. I serviced my multipliers today and they are now ready for another outing! Cheers 👍👍
Great video as always Gareth, loved the intro. For sure now we are in a quiet part of the fishing cycle, as said better to be outside than stuck indoors, you always can crack that bottle open when you return. Till the next episode, tight lines.
Yes very true mate, just nice being out there, that's what it's all about. Yeah quiet at the moment but hopefully it will pick up come the middle of March. I've been trying to work out your accent, where are you originally from, if you don't mind me asking?? I watched your video in the week when you were preserving Ragworm, very useful, will try that myself 👍👍
@@riversidewithme I am originally from Germany, many, many moons ago...lol. Lived in England more than 20 years and then moved to the beautiful Scotland.
Cheers James. Yeah it's really hard going at the moment but like you say, it should pick up come the spring, hopefully anyway ha. In the meantime, we shall keep plugging away. Hope you're keeping ok, thanks for watching bud 👍👍
Thanks Ian. Yeah I was happy to beat the blank with those small Codling, given the conditions. Towards the end, I had to pin the camera tripod down with several 7 ounce leads as it kept blowing over, quite funny really ha. Hope you're keeping ok, cheers for watching 👍👍🎣
Well done Gareth quality video as always, was about a mile off the bendricks yesterday 3 rays 3 small eels and 2 doggies still no cod for me😩keep up the great videos 👍👍
Thank you Nathan, appreciated as always. Well done on getting a few yesterday, no Cod but I don't think you're alone there, they have been very patchy this Winter, or so it would seem. Hopefully come March the fishing will pick up, I think we've all been struggling from the shore of late. Have a good weekend bud 👍👍🐟
Great video again Gareth, you film the action (or not) very well but your footage of the venues you visit really captures the essence of what it is to go fishing. Keep them coming buddy!!
Thank you Mark, much appreciated. Yeah definitely, it's just nice being at these places and catching fish is a bonus. When I arrived early morning, the sky was amazing and that made the session for me...although I was pleased that a couple of small Codling turned up ha. Cheers for watching 👍👍
Well done Gareth, challenging conditions by the looks of it. Won’t be long and hopefully the fishing will pick up. 🤞Fished the white light late Thursday night, caught fish but nothing to write home about..The camera shots look better every time mate . As I said before great to see the surroundings. Look forward to the next one. 👍👍
Thanks Matt. Well done on beating the blank at the White Light, all be it nothing special, I think any fish is a bonus at the moment given how quiet it is. Yeah definitely, will hopefully pick up from mid March. I had a day off work yesterday and had a pleasure session down Goldcliff...I had 2 bites all day ha, was really hard going. When I arrived at St Brides the sky was amazing and I just had to get it on film and although conditions soon deteriorated, I was still able to get more footage of the surroundings and this is something I like to do, even though I'm no expert photographer/film maker, far from it. Cheers as always mate and tight lines for your next session 👍👍
Haha I wish I could Scott, I would like to do this full-time but that's a little while off yet but you never know, may be one day! For now, I'll need to carry on working full-time. Cheers for watching and have a good weekend mate 👍👍
Yeah that's it Melvyn, the Bass can often make an appearance down there. I've had a few up towards the b & b end, not far from the usk mouth. Cheers for watching 👍👍
Another great video! I can back you up regarding everywhere being poor.. 2hr drive to Portsmouth produced 1 tiny whitting on 4 rods in 15 hours! We then got blew off the beach... how do you find holding bottom on the Welsh side? I've fish lady Bay in the past but find it very hard going.. the tide races through pulling my lead left or right into the rocks
Thanks mate, appreciate it. Sorry to hear that your Portsmouth trip wasn't very productive, I think we're all struggling at the moment, better luck next time. Hopefully things will start to pick up from mid March onwards. As for the rip, depends on the marks really...St Brides is not too bad, only a very small rip during this session but with Goldcliff for example, on a big tide, it can be impossible at times to hold bottom and a minimum of a 7 ounce grip lead is needed. I avoid certain places on big tides because of the rip and just fish them on the smaller tides. If you need any info, just drop me a message. Cheers 👍👍
@@riversidewithme can't win them all can we pal.. always a slow start .cod gone so have to scratch about for what you can this time of year.. plaice start showing around march so hopefully not too long until it gets better for all of us..still it gets us out instead of sitting at home doesn't it.. thanks very much for the offer advice..usually local knowledge kills..unless it from the guy in the bait shop :-D.... Great video Gareth, recently moved over to Newport from the otherside of the Channel and use your videos as reference guides, I fished here two weeks ago in the same spot and caught two small codling around the same size, a comfortable venue, unfortunately didn't have much luck when I fished the transporter bridge, nevermind will try it again!
Thank you Matt, much appreciated. Glad you're finding the videos useful. Yeah it's a nice easy mark and sometimes we all need an easy mark, especially after a tough week at work ha. Unlucky on your Transporter Bridge session but keep plugging away, you'll get fish there! A bit quiet everywhere at the moment but hopefully it will pick up soon. Cheers for watching mate 👍👍
Another great film Gareth. I used to fish all of the marks you visit, years ago. I'm a carp angler at heart, but you've inspired me to dust off the beachcasters in the summer and try for sole somewhere on the Welsh side of the Bristol Channel. Looking forward to the next vid. Tight lines for your next trip!
Thanks mate, I appreciate it and I'm pleased to hear that you'll be dusting off the beachcasters, great stuff. I've done a bit of Carp fishing in my time but only on my local canal, where you get the wild commons. Yeah the Sole tend to arrive in June and there are some good low water marks around Newport where you can catch them off the ledges on small tides, can be great fun. Cheers for watching and tight lines 👍👍
Hi Gareth a cracking video as usual 👏. I do a lot of fishing at the pub site on the steps as a rule if I get there early enough.were u at the left of the pub therem8.i might give it a bash after this brief spell of inclement weather
Thanks mate, appreciated. Yeah I walked to the left of the steps, I guess I walked for 10 minutes or so. I don't think there's any particular hotspot down there, I just like trying new areas. Hopefully the weather will be better come next weekend and we can get out there again! Cheers for watching 👍👍
another brilliant vid gar mate and a awesome venue been thinking of going back there soon myself after my mate had that nice cod few codling beats the blank and is always a pleasure to catch well done thanks for another great vid keep it up mate
Thank you Chad, hope you're well mate. Yeah it's a nice venue, easy too and we all need an easy mark from time to time ha. I remember you saying about that Cod your mate had and who knows, you may get another before winter is done, St Brides can throw up a few nice surprises. Cheers for watching and thanks for the continued support 👍🐟👍
Yeah it's hard work at the moment mate but hopefully it will pick up soon. Well done on the 4 small Codling though, you did better than most at the moment 👍👍
Thank you Simon, I appreciate it. Basically, I grew up, like many, using the Arrowsmiths tide table and the heights were shown in a different scale but in 2008, they stopped doing this, to fall in line with every other tide table provider. However, if you still want to know the height in the old scale, you just add 1.7m for Newport, 3.2m for Barry etc. In a nutshell, it's a bit like imperial and metric, people have their own preference. Cheers for watching 👍👍
Sweet that you didn't blank, i'm booked for Jackson's bay again at the lighthouse breakwater on the tusday after next.. hopefully my new planned rigs will work and i get a clear break from the last of the winter storms and we all get a good spring to fish both fresh and salt water.. by the way do estory's get closed during the river soon to close season.. or do they class as salt water venue.. is also goes for are they within club territories, example is the newport esatory within the Glamorgon rule, and need permits to fish or does it class as sea and free lisence?
Thanks mate, it was an enjoyable session in fairness, even though the weather was a little challenging at times ha! Nice easy mark is St Brides. Good luck for your next session at Jackson's Bay, I'm sure your new rigs will work and you'll get a few fish. No, estuaries do not close and providing you are fishing for saltwater species then you do not require a licence. The club territories tend to be way up stream in the freshwater and not towards the mouth where you get the saltwater, so no issue there. Cheers for watching 👍👍
Hi Ian, as you're new to the sport, don't worry about adding the 1.7m. I hope that makes sense but drop me a message if you need to know about about venues/tide sizes etc. Cheers 👍👍
Hi Dale, yeah I'm good thanks, hope you are too. 12.5m is a big tide, on the old fashioned scale that's 14.2m...if fishing St Brides then either head towards black pipe end to the right or up towards the lighthouse itself where the rocks are steeper. If you fish in front of pub on that tide, the water will come to the very top of the rocks and just a little bit over. Tell me which day you're referring to and I can say for sure then 👍
@@riversidewithme great to hear mate, all is well with myself thank you. Sunday would be the day I'm referring too? I will write all this down for future reference.
@@Brookestofrance Good stuff. Yeah Sunday will be ok for St Brides, although that's on the limit and the water may just creep over the rocks slightly, so pick an area where the rocks are higher
@@riversidewithme okay mate thank you for your advice? What about goldcliff area is that tide going to be to big one for that area I know it's only down the coast a little bit but not sure how it will affect it. Thank you again.
@@Brookestofrance Yeah too big for Goldcliff Dale, you'll struggle to hold bottom...you can fish in the bay but even then you'll need a 7oz lead. Good tide for Barry, Jackson's Bay or the Knap.

@@scotlandforagingandfishing I see, now I know, thanks for clarifying. Looks lovely where you live up in Scotland, nice part of the world 👍
@@riversidewithme Thanks Gareth
Cracking little session there Gareth. It's tuff at the moment, role on the spring mate👍 🎣
Cheers James. Yeah it's really hard going at the moment but like you say, it should pick up come the spring, hopefully anyway ha. In the meantime, we shall keep plugging away. Hope you're keeping ok, thanks for watching bud 👍👍
Couple of Codling better than a blank. Conditions didn't look too clever Gareth. 🎣
Been waiting for the next video 😀 Can you give up work please Gareth so we can have them daily lol 👍🏻
Haha I wish I could Scott, I would like to do this full-time but that's a little while off yet but you never know, may be one day! For now, I'll need to carry on working full-time. Cheers for watching and have a good weekend mate 👍👍
@@riversidewithme you to mate 👍🏻
Ive fished that mark quite a few times and caught but the first time I fished it I caught a bass just at the end of the summer season
Will definitely be in touch soon and I'll carry on watching for Channel for marks and how to fish them.. all the best pal
Cheers for watching 👍👍
another brilliant vid gar mate and a awesome venue been thinking of going back there soon myself after my mate had that nice cod
few codling beats the blank and is always a pleasure to catch well done thanks for another great vid keep it up mate
@@riversidewithme I'm good mate thanks for asking yep your right never no mate every tide is different as they say
I struggled at beachley yesterday only 4 small codling biggest about half a pound
Yeah it's hard work at the moment mate but hopefully it will pick up soon. Well done on the 4 small Codling though, you did better than most at the moment 👍👍
Hello Gareth, cracking video. you mention old school tide heights when did they change to a different datum?
Hi gaz, I didn't realise we add 1.7 m to tide, how or why is that mate, I'm a newbie !
Hi Ian, as you're new to the sport, don't worry about adding the 1.7m. I hope that makes sense but drop me a message if you need to know about about venues/tide sizes etc. Cheers 👍👍
@@riversidewithme ahh OK, cheers man, how about a video on your tackle box set up , and gear , be good to see how you set up when you get to a mark !
@@ianstarmore2002 Ok Ian, I'll bear that in mind 👍
Hi mate, would 12.5m be an okay tide for st brides area?
I'm still trying to get my head around areas and tides.
Hope you're doing Okay matey?
