i always think about this as a lullaby she would sing to her child because it's something she wished someone said to her when she was a child, so she's also singing to the child in herself, it's one of my favorite song of hers🥺
@Simperwolf I think it used to be Angelina because isn't cherry blossom, an older song that she remade for blue banisters. The newest mention of her daughter's chosen name is when she claims it is Clementine.
Lana often mentions wanting to have a daughter. Perhaps as a way to make up for her own mother’s mistreatment. Angelina is definitely about a future daughter or a miscarried child, the name is an allusion to an angel and the mention of ghost does hint at a miscarriage. The juxtaposition between her younger self as a child and her unborn daughter is chilling. She’ll be the mother she never had. This song is so personal and vulnerable yet so beautiful. A favorite for sure
I actually think your reaction is on point. The following song from Blue Banister is Sweet Caroline wich is a letter to Lana's sister/first born child.
In the song “Dance Till We Die”, she sings, “Clementine’s not just a fruit / it’s my daughter’s chosen name.” Don’t know about Angelina, but this verse always made me think she must’ve experienced a misscarriage.
and the song have a baby which she didn’t want circulated + the relationship with her own mother all together mean the idea of motherhood is hard for her
If I could, I would have you reacting to each and every Lana song. I'm a hardcore fan and whenever I watch one of your videos reacting to her songs there's always a different point of view that I couldn't ever think about, you know so much of literally everything as for the sycamore tree and the cherry blossom thing, it's just amazing and you deserve a lot more of viewers. Thanks for sharing with us everything. By the way I'm from Brazil, that's how far you have reached people with your smartness. Lots of love!
I once had this song on repeat and cried for at least 3 hours... And then I wrote this poem: Sweet baby, my little dove Forgive me for my fallibility Still rewriting the script of heredity But, I know, when it comes to you I’ll always start with love Figure it out from here Sweet baby, my little love Wipe away all your tears I’ll rock you, hold you near Whisper a song in your ear I know when it comes to you I’ll always start with love Sweet baby, my little deer Couldn’t start anywhere but here The love I’ll feel when you’re near Whisper a song in my ear Lull me to a place without fear I promise, I’ll figure it out, right here
@@mendwithmerethe most interesting thing is that so many of the songs were written in much different periods of her life. A lot of the songs on the album were unreleased that she decided to finally package into the album.
Yeah, I really think it's about miscarriage. She did this song like 10 years ago, and it was always an unreleased, but then she decided to put it in this album. She said once while doing a live about this album release, that there's a word in one of the songs, that she never mentioned before and that explains everything. It just "sliped" into the lyrics inadvertently, cause there's some stories about herself taht don't need to be told. I always thought it was "Angelina", the name she gave to her baby. 💔
Excellent as per usual. I particularly love the juxtaposition of mentioning how the world is cruel, but that there is beauty in something as fleeting at cherry blossoms and sturdy and enduring like the sycamore. I love the idea of something being everlasting such as love for an unborn child. Please do “Beautiful” from Lana off of “Blue Banisters.”
I think in this song she is being the sweet and attentive mother that she feels she never had. And of course she is being so to a younger version of herself. My conclusion is, somehow in this song she heals the wounds that her mommy issues have caused on her. And she doesn’t say Angelina. She says AND YOU LEAN ON your Sycamore tree ❤
It's Angelina, listen again closely she did a little pause before saying "On your sycamore tree" Lana also said it herself once in an Instagram post with the caption "Swing it high Angelina on your sycamore tree". Even then,"And you lean on sycamore tree" doesn't fit with the previous lyrics, when she always refers her future child as "Cherry Blossom" in every chorus
Around 2014/15, Lana broke up with Barrie-James O'Neill, after about three years of relationship. Despite assurances of staying in friendly relations, Lana endured this separation hard. Cherry blossom was written in 2013 but not released until 2021 and Barrie worked on it. I had the impression that they had come to terms with something after years and had become close again as friends. When I first heard CB, it was like a puzzle popping into place in my head. I was kind of glad that you saw the same thing in this song as I did. Man, Lana is a really strong person, she's been through so much and still has so much light in her.
Blue banisters gets shit on quite a bit because the production isn't as polished as some of her other work, but it has some of her most beautiful and most personal songwriting. "Thunder" is another of my favourites if you're looking to react to more!
I never looked this song this way... so sad :( The following song from BB is Sweet Carolina that I think she wrotte for her sister by the time her sister was pregnant. If you take a look, please share with us your toughts. Thank you Mend
One of my most favourite song from Blue Banisters. HANDS DOWN. It's so emotionally strong and Lana's writing is so vulnerable I love it so freaking much 💓!! I loved the reaction Mere! I hope you, your son are okay and I really hope you get that cutain fixed 🤞💞
Your reactions always make me feel so emotional, love all of your reactions but Lana's definitely my fav ones. You're so smart and talk with so much kindness. brings me comfort ❤️🩹
Thank you for doing this song. It been one of my favourite lana songs since blue banisters came out. I personally think this song is about 2 things. One of them being about Lanas baby she sadly lost and the other of lana thinking back to her young self. Thinking how her mother figure wasn’t very good so she wanted to comfort her old self in memories. Possibly when she is referring to cherry blossom she is meaning how when she was a teen she didn’t think she would make it out alive (as we hear more about in the song fingertips) but now her in her 30s looking back and thinking about it. Maybe I’m wrong and ofc it is up to everyone to have their own interpretation. Tysm Mere for doing this song it means a lot!
Thank you for this reaction. As someone who has gone through this three times in the last five years, I can say this song, and now your reaction, means so much to me.
i would have said that this song is just about a future child and how she’s going to be a better mother than hers was, and that the child’s name is going to be angelina (btw, she has a similar line in her song dance till we die where she says “clementine’s not just a fruit / it’s my daughter’s chosen name”… BUT i recently found out about a rare unreleased song called Have A Baby; apparently upon leaking there was also something about her medical records of having terminated a pregnancy leaking and her managers got the police involved (i’m not sure how much of this is verified but it’s what i’ve seen several fans say and what is on the Lana Wiki), so i feel like that experience if it did occur couldn’t not play into the meaning of this song to her
Cherry blossom is immediately before Sweet Carolina on BB which talks to her sister and baby blues for when Lanas neice was born, Cherry Blossom is 1 of Lanas older songs (a leaked unreleased track for a long time). On a personal thought level, these references and also the Ocean Boulevard song (I Forget which) Lana asks if the baby will be ok, also asks her brother to stop smoking etc. Over the past couple of years the Grants have really closed ranks. Rob (daddy nepo, lol) and Chuck with her family are always close to Lana. Elizabeth (Lana) has a fragility and we know snippets of the trauma she has endured over the years, song writing may be here 'therapy' of sorts so these theories are likely to be close to, if not the exact truth. It would make sense that Elizabeth had been though something which has meant her family want to be by her side, always 😔
this song is said to be about a future child that Lana wants, specially because she's said that Angelina is a name she would choose for a kid. But I interpret some parts of this song as her singing to her younger self, especially the "little ghost, blond hair" (her natural hair is blond). Maybe a way to speak to her inner child and say it's gonna be alright. I didn't have a mother growing up and this song makes me really sad, I know very well the feeling of missing a mother, but I don't know the feeling of being taken care of by one. This song brings me haunting lonely feelings. I love it but it's sad for me.
in an interview in the past she said that angelina was one of the names she would like to give to her daughter in the future... i honestly dont know if shes talking 'bout miscarriage since this song was written originally in 2013-14 (ultraviolence era), she also referenced to this song on instagram in 2016 as a lullaby, great reaction tho!
Can you do Bel Air and Terrence Loves You without a doubt one of the best Lana songs (if you can, read background of Terrence Loves You before listening it's really sad story)❤
This can be seen with two perspectives and both are correct, this is Lana grieving the mother she never had and imagining how things would’ve been if her mom was present in her life, and also Lana is singing to a future child of her, named Angelina (although she has also said her daughter’s chosen name is clementine) either way both are beautiful
I always think about this song about her future child that she always wanted to name angelina in case of anything happend to lana at least angelina has this song it's like a messege from her mom (lana)
I don't know if she had a miscarriage, but i heard this song was ment for her future daughter if she had one. Angelina is one of the names she wanted for her children

this is easily one of my favourites on blue banisters, close to tears every time i listen to it. lanas music is so beautiful. you should read/listen to her poetry
i think this is a song for her sisters child, most of her songs in blue banisters were for her sister. when she did the songs her sister was expecting her child, “cherry blossom” can also mean future child. it can also be for her future child, since she wanted to call her child “angelina” and angelina also means little ghost
This might or might not be related, and you're welcome to draw your own interpretations, but in the 'Shades of Cool' music video, there's a scene where a cherry blossom tree starts to blossom, followed by a sudden gunshot...
I think it’s about her sister (or someone close to her) having a miscarriage. She sings to both the baby and mother. “What you don’t tell no one you can tell me” would not fit if it was about her own miscarriage. Plus, back to back she sings about herself being here and mommy being there. Two different people.
there’s this one song off of Honeymoon called swan song. It’s always been one of those songs i simply adore and is argue it’s one of lana’s saddest songs yet. It’s not the most personal, neither is it so cruel, but it’s painfully melancholic. I remember lana calling it “the antithesis of hopefulness”. there’s a lot of interpretations and i would rlly be interested in yours! ❤
I recently came across your channel and am so pleased to see that you are reviewing and discussing Lana Del Rey’s music. She is one of a select few artists whose music truly touches me to the core. Fiona Apple, Missy Higgins, Alanis Morissette, and, especially, Maria Mena are some of the other artists who have moved me the most. I wanted to hop on here and ask if anyone else has listened to Maria Mena’s music. I would love it if you would review some of her songs. She covers themes related to eating disorders, trauma, family dysfunction, toxic relationships, attachment disorders, alcohol abuse, grief, etc. Her music puts experiences I have had into words better than I ever could and unlocks something inside me that enables me to heal, grow and transform. Cause and Effect, Eyesore, Self-Fulfilling Prophecy, Shadow, and My Lullaby are some of my favorites by Maria Mena.
Hey! Loved it, its one of my favourite songs of her. I'm sorry for asking, but could you please react to any song on Dance Fever - Florence + The Machine album?? They are all so deep and meaningful, just the most beautiful lyrics. Florence also had an addiction so she has songs about that, like Morning Elvis, about her after getting clean. Sorry if I wrote anything wrong, im from Brazil, so English is not my first language. Love you! ❤
i always think about this as a lullaby she would sing to her child because it's something she wished someone said to her when she was a child, so she's also singing to the child in herself, it's one of my favorite song of hers🥺

The love I’ll feel when you’re near
Whisper a song in my ear
Lull me to a place without fear

This might or might not be related, and you're welcome to draw your own interpretations, but in the 'Shades of Cool' music video, there's a scene where a cherry blossom tree starts to blossom, followed by a sudden gunshot...
Uraaa!! My reaction queen
♥️
Such a beautiful song
It’s a very beautiful song
I think it’s about her sister (or someone close to her) having a miscarriage. She sings to both the baby and mother. “What you don’t tell no one you can tell me” would not fit if it was about her own miscarriage. Plus, back to back she sings about herself being here and mommy being there. Two different people.
Wait for Life would be a good song to react to. Very vulnerable and emotional
there’s this one song off of Honeymoon called swan song. ❤
I'm crying again ...😢❤
Mere, please listen to the Björk song Stonemilker, and Dark but Just a Game by Lana Del Rey. They’re amazing songs. ❤ Have a good one
You should do Flipside !!!!!
Having the light behind you is so mother of u 💋
violets for roses pls plspls!!!!
Old Money or Happiness Is A Butterfly!
Its a song to her future daughter😢
Love you! ❤
I would love it if you could do a full album reaction of blue banisters that is one of my favorite
