I store upright all the time, but I’ve always make sure that my glassware and mugs are 100% dry before putting into cupboard. Most bugs go after moisture, so I dry them first before put away. As for counter space, don’t have much room and cupboard space is limited too. So I keep rice cooker and crockpot on counter and make sure I use them most days weekly.

I was hesitant about putting away my toaster because I use it every day but found a “convenient place to store it and I love not having it out. This is an ongoing battle in my house. It's the same reason as your family. If it wasn't for the fact that I'm generally the one who does the dishes, albeit my daughter will put away the dishes from the dishwasher if I push, but she sure doesn't like it (as a mom we get to feel the 'I don't care if you don't like it but I cook, clean, wash your clothes, etc...' not to mention she's home after graduating from college while she finds work & can move out on her own), move often the glasses & coffee cups do go rightside up, but the downside is that my husband will stand there & flip them upside down on occasion. FACEPALM! UGH. I know he does this just to get under my skin. He's such a scamp.

And I store my glasses up as they are in a cupboard.

I live in the Seattle area so we have plenty of water! I let the faucet run when I wash, don't use the sink full. I let things dry upside down in a drying rack on top of a towel, but turn them right side up to finish drying after dripping. Then I store them upside down to keep dust from entering. I don't have geckos lol. My counter-space is TINY living in an apartment, so have nothing on them except some empty beer cans until the evening when I rinse them out and recycle. One has to learn to live with the space they have. I do always scrub-sponge my drain opening. It's not as neglected as the area around my faucet mount!

That was funny. 1-I used to store my glassware down but a girend who worked in chinaware in a department store told me that was wrong so I started storing them upright. 2-My mom did both when we had dinner I guess her mood? We would have serving dishes, other times the pots would be on the table. I follow another YTuber here on organization. I am a "if I see it I will use it" so the items I use often are out on the counter and I love it. It may irritate others but it works for me. I never fry anything in a large amount of oil, but I do use avocado oil or olive oil when making fish/chicken/etc in a frying pan. I wipe as clean as I can with paper towels before washing in the sink. Also, when frying bacon or hamburger, there's a lot of grease so I'll double up the plastic grocery store bags and put the grease in there once it has cooled a bit. Then throw in garbage and on to the paper towel ritual. It has worked for me for years.

Yeah for vinegar, yeah for baking soda (I add lemon or orange zest to my baking soda, gives a nice smell as well as citric acid is a disinfectant!) Also I clean my butcher block with a half lemon and kosher salt. Works like a charm and when I've wiped all of that off, I treat my block with mineral oil. Also, if you have bacon fat, put it in a plastic container while it's still warmish and mix in a few tablespoons of peanut butter and some seeds (non-salted, millet, sunflower, whatever) Then pop that in your freezer and in the winter, tip it out of the container and put it in an old mesh onion bag, yes you have kept some. Then hang it out for birds!

We have a minimalist kitchen & our glassware & cups are stored in a roll out draw with a kind of like rubber matting underneath that is easy to clean. We get a lot of very tiny bugs in Brisbane Australia through th summer months, so I am cleaning my window ledges, countertops & floors every day.

I like my counters as clear as possible. I'm always trying to find hiding spaces for stuff. However, some things that I use every day I may keep - or if the item (toaster oven) is difficult to store, I will keep it on my counter.

If I use an appliance everyday I keep it on the counter. I’ve always wanted free counter space but I don’t know where to store everything! I guess I need to declutter my kitchen first. This video has helped me feel inspired! Thanks, Angie💕

I place all of my appliances on open large durable plastic shelves in my kitchen plugged in ready to be used. My kitchen aid, vitamix, and Cuisinart grind and brew coffee maker which is sitting on a more sturdy table plugged in. My actual counter top workspace has my cutting board, kosher salt container, pepper grinder and oil. I like to have my workspace as open as possible as well. I've completely reworked my kitchen about 6 times since I moved into this house 2 years ago. This layout is the most functional and efficient for me who rarely goes out to eat. Sure it's annoying to have to bend down to the second shelf up to put a couple pieces of bread in the toaster a couple times a week, but to me it's not as annoying as having to go through a crammed cabinet full of appliances just to pull out a toaster to have a quick slice of toast. I hope this helps.

Really informative. I did not know you had to regularly seal grout. Or at all. You are right. Who thinks of it. Off to store soon. Always stored mugs upside down. In Brisbane. Australia a lot of sneaky cockroaches get about and I always imagine them galloping through the cupboard jumping into my cups. I have some wine glasses that I store upright, as it fits in better. Need to do your less is better declutter. Bench top has 7 appliances. Multi cooker, jug, sodastream, toaster, microwave, 2 coffee machines. Need to declutter that too. Yours look so appealing.

I store almost all my cups and glasses upright in my kitchen cabinets. But when it comes to wine glasses, I store them upside down in an open shelf in the living room - because I do have a quite small kitchen and it looks nice. Storing the wine glasses upside down prevents dust collection in their. But their are placed on a decorative serviette and I do make sure that they are standing upright for a while after cleaning them so there is no trapped moisture.

I love your channel! Have I said that before? Hi from Australia 👋
Most of your tips I’ve always done, like hand washing dishes starting with glasses, then cutlery, cleanest plates first etc, since I was a little girl as I was taught (no dishwasher). I store my classes up and my hubby puts them in the cupboard rim down so I turn them 😂
For the sink, I do the same but out some baking Soda in the plug hole and add cleaning vinegar.
Great tips for kitchen grout, thanks!
I confess, my kitchen bench top has appliances (kettle, toaster, NutriBullet and wooden utensils in holder, paper towel holder. Uh oh that sounds bad already and I haven’t mentioned the cutting boards or knife block. I just don’t have room in cupboards. Time for a rethink of what I really need.
Oh and I always put the tea towel and hand towel into the laundry at the end of the day, after I have put the dishwasher on. I like fresh ones each morning.

My mother's grandparents stored glassware upside down, but that's because they lived through the dust bowl. It was a requirement to do so, because it kept the dirt out! I am a right-side-up person, but we had to break they cycle of learning over the generations from the dust bowl days.

I don't have many cups and mugs, but I use 2 short locker racks(?) that I used to have in middle school to store my cups upside down
They still get circulation, but I don't run the risk of anything falling in. Plus, the glasses protect the bowls that I store underneath

I have an idea for people I would like to share that works great for me. Although it doesn’t look the neatest but does the trick. I bought off amazon these grabbers with suction cups which I stuck along the tiles in the kitchen. I put on these any rubber gloves (bleach, food prep, washing up), microfibre clothes and brushes to dry out properly and by being hung up, I know where they are and they’re organised

I think it became popular to store plates and glasses upside-down during the Depression-era Dust Bowl, when topsoil from the heartland even blew into homes on the east coast … and ships at sea, too. Dust was everywhere! I store contemporary glasses rim-side up, but my grandmother's old tapered glassware is staggered up-down-up-down because I have so little space in my tiny kitchen.

We store cups and mugs upright. Not just to let water evaporate, but because I don't want the rim (where we put our lips) sitting on the shelf liner. We use a spongy shelf liner which is difficult to clean; you can't just wipe it down often like paper liner. And sometimes the cup will stick just a tiny bit to the liner so I can't imagine my lips on the liner lol. We also have closed cabinets, even for our fancy schmancy drink glasses. That said, before any dinner party or bbq, we use cloth to wipe inside of glasses in the bar area before guests come over, so dust is not a problem.
P.S. I learned the hard way, if you microwave water and vinegar, do NOT touch the water until it cools down. I dipped a rag in the water to use to clean and it exploded on my hand and arm, 2nd degree serious burn. I read that you should add a toothpick or 2 that helps keep it from exploding but I will never microwave the mixture ever again. I still have scars :-(
