Granted I’m 75, but we always stored grease in a can in the freezer and threw the frozen can away on garbage day-a no-no for compost. (Clear counters works best for me.)
I do the same, I drain all fat into a tall take out plastic soup container, kept in my fridge, then if needed I'll freeze it then throw away. Depending on the type of fat, sometimes it doesn't need to be frozen.
I was trying to figure the best way I could ask you to please make a video on deep cleaning a countertop oven. I have an air fryer convection oven and the inside of it is not stainless steel. It’s that scratchable aluminum material. Now there are these yellow stains that won’t come off with dish soap.. and I can’t scrub too much or it will scratch. Help?
Me too, i have my coffee maker and toaster, everything else I store .........I think it looks more like a home when you have a couple of appliances on the counters , too clear feels like no one lives there lol
I'm disabled with a 5lbs weight limit. It's so hard for me to keep my toaster, coffee pot and my canisters in a cabinet. Even though I don't like it I have to deal with it. GREAT video as always CMS. God bless you all ❤ XOXO
I like functional decor and appliances we use almost daily, a small one-portion blender, toaster, microwave, Keurig out on the counters, and I try to keep it to that
I live on Maui, and store them all upside down, so geckos do not get in them and poop - I do always wipe the rim and the inside of the glass before I use it -I am a diehard upside down!
I used to love going and checking out "Model Homes" and getting some decorating ideas. The "decorators" always seemed to have so much "clutter" everywhere, but the worst for some reason was usually the kitchen. The kitchens and other space would look so much bigger if they'd get rid of all that stuff... Thanks for all the tips!!
I like clear counters with a few essential and often used items on show. Completely empty counters look sterile to me but a cluttered kitchen is a recipe for chaos and waste! Xx

I've actually recently tried your idea of putting everything away to see how I felt about my kitchen surfaces being clear & I have to say that my hubby & me both lived it 😀 sk I'm definitely in the 'less on the tops' camp 👍
I prefer clean counters with minimal decor. Also, I store my glasses both ways. The reason I do is that I rotate my glassware, and I can tell which ones haven't been used by the way they are stored. Loved the tip about cleaning the blender--so simple and something I would have never thought of! Thanks Melissa!!!!
I tried the nothing on counter tops. I do have a coffee station so that makes it easier. I was hesitant about putting away my toaster because I use it every day but found a “convenient place to store it and I love not having it out. I keep my kitchen counter minimal. I have a container with cooking utensils and a porcelain owl full of cat food. But that’s it. The minimal look makes it feel like a space of cooking possibilities :) Thanks for another great video
I store upright all the time, but I’ve always make sure that my glassware and mugs are 100% dry before putting into cupboard. Most bugs go after moisture, so I dry them first before put away. As for counter space, don’t have much room and cupboard space is limited too. So I keep rice cooker and crockpot on counter and make sure I use them most days weekly.
Long Live the Clean My Space Yellow Pineapple!!! I like a pretty bare countertop in the bathroom and kitchen. It's easier to keep clean. In fact, you just inspired me to clear off the kitchen counters... some stuff has accumulated there and it needs to get put away!
We hand wash dishes at home. So, right after the wash we sit the dishes upside down while they wait to get put away. When they’re in the cabinet we store them right side up.
I like my countertops clean and pretty clear- I do keep the coffee pot on the counter since we use it regularly but otherwise, other appliances are stored in a cupboard. Thank you for the tips- I enjoy your videos very much.
I like cleared off counters, even my toaster oven gets put away. The only thing allowed to stay out is the fruit bowl. And also, when it comes to kitchen laundry, I change out my dish cloth at least once a day (sometimes more if I used it wipe off my toddlers face after a meal) and I boil my dish cloths before putting them in the laundry, that way they don't get stinky.
I also change my kitchen towel out at least once a day. I guess it depe ds on how much you use it but i wouldnt. Consider using the same wShcloth for my face everyday so why the handtowel in the kitchen?
Upside Down (glasses) - but I place my glasses/mugs/bowl on a dish towel to dry as I put the rest of my dishes/silverware away. Great Idea for cleaning that crack between the stove and countertop! Yay!
I *would* like minimal items on the counter, but my house doesn't have the cupboard space so, I *do* keep some appliances on the counter. However, I'm not a knick knack person, so I don't put decor items on the counter.
Love a minimal counter but it never happens...husband, teenagers, etc Wanted to tell you I’ve made up several of your cleaning solutions and my mind is blown. Even got a little emotional after cleaning soap-scum out of my tub with NO EFFORT after years of trying noxious store bought stuff and scrubbing my little heart out! No more bleach stained clothes! Just have to say such a fan of your content, subscribed years ago and recently rediscovered your channel, also super happy for you guys about the little one! 😁
I store some of my glasses upright, but the ones on the open wire shelves I store upside down. Thanks for all or the great cleaning tips, we have very hard water so I am going to give the sink tip a try. And last question, my counters are always cluttered so 2020 is the year for me the get my home clean and organized...thank you for the continued motivation ❤️
Thanks for the tip about using a butter knife to get the crud between stove and counter. BTW, upside down for glasses; right-side up for mugs. Don't ask.
For the sink my all time go to is baking soda and lemon 🍋, I use lemon in water every morning so I save the lemon shell, sprinkle the baking soda and instead of the scrubber I use the lemon shell as the scrubber and the results are amazing it even removes rusty marks and leave the sink area smelling like a dream. And I store my glasses up as they are in a cupboard.
Oh my gosh! I store upright too. Drives my family nuts I give them this exact reason of air circulation and they think I’m overthinking it. Soooo glad I’m not the only one.
This is an ongoing battle in my house. It's the same reason as your family. If it wasn't for the fact that I'm generally the one who does the dishes, albeit my daughter will put away the dishes from the dishwasher if I push, but she sure doesn't like it (as a mom we get to feel the 'I don't care if you don't like it but I cook, clean, wash your clothes, etc...' not to mention she's home after graduating from college while she finds work & can move out on her own), move often the glasses & coffee cups do go rightside up, but the downside is that my husband will stand there & flip them upside down on occasion. FACEPALM! UGH. I know he does this just to get under my skin. He's such a scamp.
Great video and lots of good tips that I can use. I also subscribe to some gardening channels and they discourage putting grease or oil in the compost bin as this might encourage vermin. 🤷🏾♀️
I saw this post on Instagram saying you posted, thought i watched it then but I didn’t 😞 I’m late but I’m here 🙌🏾 sooooo much value in every single video you post
Upside down...that's how I was trained. I used to have all appliances on the counter...now they all rest on the metal shelves unit in the other room. Totally freed up my kitchen!!!
Life changing things in my kitchen - Microwave cover, using vinegar to clean everything in the kitchen, keeping my heavy food processor on the counter (I actually use it now), and an erasable monthly planner to jot down to dos (keep me and my husband coordinated).
Yay I love kitchen videos! I just uploaded a video inspired by you... trying your 3 wave system. I really liked cleaning my sink at the end instead of after doing my dishes... super helpful!! Also I put my glass cups upside down 🤦🏽♀️
Cleared counter top.& Keeping my sink free has made such a big difference to my kitchen..feels clean all.time ...i.also.now put the drainin rack away so don't tempt me 2 leave dishes out.... thnx 😍
same - plus I created a 'coffee spot' in the kitchen, not on the counter, but on a small table. There's my new coffee machine and a small basket for napkins on one side and the sugar on the other side and some flowers. Very nice.
LOOOOL!!!!!!! That was funny. 1-I used to store my glassware down but a girend who worked in chinaware in a department store told me that was wrong so I started storing them upright. 2-My mom did both when we had dinner I guess her mood? We would have serving dishes, other times the pots would be on the table. I follow another YTuber here on organization. I am a "if I see it I will use it" so the items I use often are out on the counter and I love it. It may irritate others but it works for me. I only put up what I do not use all the time like food processor.
I like my counters as clear as possible. I'm always trying to find hiding spaces for stuff. However, some things that I use every day I may keep - or if the item (toaster oven) is difficult to store, I will keep it on my counter.
Really informative. I did not know you had to regularly seal grout. Or at all. You are right. Who thinks of it. Off to store soon. Always stored mugs upside down. In Brisbane. Australia a lot of sneaky cockroaches get about and I always imagine them galloping through the cupboard jumping into my cups. I have some wine glasses that I store upright, as it fits in better. Need to do your less is better declutter. Bench top has 7 appliances. Multi cooker, jug, sodastream, toaster, microwave, 2 coffee machines. Need to declutter that too. Yours look so appealing.
Hand-washer here. I store my glasses right side up. Have been decluttering for awhile now, still a work in progress. Unfortunately my kitchen is tiny with very few cabinets, so my toaster and Keurig must stay on the counter, as well as a jar of my most used cooking utensils by the stove. That’s all, though, except for a pretty tray holding dishwashing essentials by the sink.
Another great video! Finally had time to watch it 💝 Thank you so much. Your cleaning videos have helped me so much. Worth their weight in gold I tell ya
omg, tried the microwave cleaning tip AS SOON as I saw it, and it works!! Thank you! Have you made a video yet for cleaning your apartment for moving out (and to get your deposit back)!? I'd watch it, 100% Hey from Nunavut
I think it became popular to store plates and glasses upside-down during the Depression-era Dust Bowl, when topsoil from the heartland even blew into homes on the east coast … and ships at sea, too. Dust was everywhere! I store contemporary glasses rim-side up, but my grandmother's old tapered glassware is staggered up-down-up-down because I have so little space in my tiny kitchen.
I love your channel! Have I said that before? Hi from Australia 👋 Most of your tips I’ve always done, like hand washing dishes starting with glasses, then cutlery, cleanest plates first etc, since I was a little girl as I was taught (no dishwasher). I store my classes up and my hubby puts them in the cupboard rim down so I turn them 😂 For the sink, I do the same but out some baking Soda in the plug hole and add cleaning vinegar. Great tips for kitchen grout, thanks! I confess, my kitchen bench top has appliances (kettle, toaster, NutriBullet and wooden utensils in holder, paper towel holder. Uh oh that sounds bad already and I haven’t mentioned the cutting boards or knife block. I just don’t have room in cupboards. Time for a rethink of what I really need. Oh and I always put the tea towel and hand towel into the laundry at the end of the day, after I have put the dishwasher on. I like fresh ones each morning.
I learned to tip cups upside down after living in places prone to mice. The mice seem to like to leave evidence in the cups. I always wonder do cup upright people tend to rinse their cups before use.
If you then store upside down your rims rest on areas that the mice inhabit and leave who knows what on the surface. No good answer? Maybe switch to disposable plastic cups?
I have one spot for my Keurig, Kettle, and toaster, but I Haven't been able to put my my instant pot away, because of the fact that I barely have enough space in my cabinets for the pots and pans. And it's hard keeping the littles out of the kitchen, so I try to keep the stuff out of reach of them.
I'm not pregnant (had 5 and I'm DONE lol) but I know how you feel about wanting to throw everything out. My house is pretty clean but my kitchen cabinets are a nightmare!
@@tiffanymichelle3130 Haha! I remember the feeling. Honestly, don't worry about it too much. Do what you can now and even when you think your'e okay, a toddler highlights a whole world of other stresses. For a new mom, I think the most important is having everything easy to get to for you and easy to find for your hubby or whomever is going to help you in those first weeks when your'e enjoying your newborn. Lots of love to you!
Narniaru you’re very sweet! All good advice. I’m not a first time mom, I have a 3 year old, so I totally agree with you about the toddler comment lol! That’s why I have no time, my son gets all my attention! 😆😊
I am relating to Lydia M, LOL I get it. Love all your tips, Melissa! One tip I like though for cleaning the faucet head with a pull out is to fill a cup with a vinegar solution & instead of a plastic bag, pull out the faucet and put a clothespin to hold it in the cup so it can soak for as long as you want! I usually set a timer! :-)
I just have my blender cutting board my utensils salt/Pepper shaker and a small dry goods basket on my countertops dont have alot of counter space but since it's a daily use item I keep them out. My cups when drying face down but once they get put away go upright I've had a cup that got stuck onto the cabinet floor and I'll always put them upright. Great video thanks again.
Hello Melissa, started to watch your videos recently and I’m a big fan already. I like to clean! But as I age it’s getting more difficult to keep up with my own cleaning standards... You make cleaning seem an easier task. I’m aware of the need to declutter various parts of my home, so I’m starting to use your advice on this chapter😊. By the way I store my cups and glasses upright and enjoy having my kitchen counter top with the least things on it possible. Regards from Portugal🇵🇹
What a great video, thank you. I'm an upside-downer only if they can be stacked and still fit in the space. Coffee mugs can usually be stacked inside each other right-side up. I guess I'm not sanitary with my blender. I use it 5 days a week so I just put it in the refrigerator after each use until Friday, when I clean it. It make life a LOT easier! You throw your greased paper towels into the compost bin. Do you mean recycling bin? I was told no meat or dairy in my compost bin because it may attract animals. I am so with you on a clean counter space. Especially since I have a small one. Totally minimalist, baby!
I live in the Seattle area so we have plenty of water! I let the faucet run when I wash, don't use the sink full. I let things dry upside down in a drying rack on top of a towel, but turn them right side up to finish drying after dripping. Then I store them upside down to keep dust from entering. I don't have geckos lol. My counter-space is TINY living in an apartment, so have nothing on them except some empty beer cans until the evening when I rinse them out and recycle. One has to learn to live with the space they have. I do always scrub-sponge my drain opening. It's not as neglected as the area around my faucet mount!
I dislike unnecessary stuff on my countertops. I find it so easy to clean by keeping them clear and it looks good. I never know what is the best way to store cups and glasses in cupboards. If they have a bit of moisture on them after being in the dishwasher I tend to store them upside down. But I will be changing after listening to you. Thank you for sharing. Xx
I don't like drinking out of glasses that are rim side down because it feels like the clean glass now is dirty from touching the shelf. Rim side up is good!👍
Since I live in an apartment, I have quite a bit on my kitchen counters - Kitchaid mixer, a ice tea maker gadget, coffee maker and a pitcher to hold my cooking utensils. As well as a toaster!
I'm more of a minimalist & I don't like anything on my countertops, except me kettle, as it does automatically make my space less cluttered & cleaner. Great video. Greetings from South Africa

@@sammi-joreviews1135 my middle name use to be jo! I changed it after i married
I do one up one down especially with wine glasses mainly for space.
Also I put my glass cups upside down 🤦🏽♀️
Cleared counter top.& Keeping my sink free has made such a big difference to my kitchen..feels clean all.time ...i.also.now put the drainin rack away so don't tempt me 2 leave dishes out.... thnx 😍
Perfect timing Melissa!! 😃
Thanks for watching Nolan!
Definitely
I have stuff on the counters because there is no other place to put it.
Same
Same
same - plus I created a 'coffee spot' in the kitchen, not on the counter, but on a small table. There's my new coffee machine and a small basket for napkins on one side and the sugar on the other side and some flowers. Very nice.
Sylvie Caron That’s a nice idea. 👍
Not just clean... Monicaaa clean😁😍
I love clean and CLEAR countertops!
I only have out things I use everyday like my coffee maker. I can't easily store my kitchenaid so it stays out.
This would be a good time to do a video on disinfectants that work well against viruses. 😉
Have you done a video on taking care of a flat top stove?
I always always want my counter tops to be clear.. just minimum things in there..
I normally have all of my appliances on the counter because it's visible to me, but I do like the idea of having a cleaner counter.
Try a silicon gap cover between stove and counter top. It keeps food and crumbs from getting into that gap, and they're easier to clean. Love mine.
I like my counters as clear as possible. I'm always trying to find hiding spaces for stuff. However, some things that I use every day I may keep - or if the item (toaster oven) is difficult to store, I will keep it on my counter.
Most importantly make sure children cannot get hold of any harmful products ie dish washing tablets etc ! Great tips !
Your videos are so helpful! Thank you!
Thanks for watching them!
I'd watch it, 100%
Hey from Nunavut
i do store my glasses upside down on a rack wt holes so it is ventilated.
I store my glasses upright! ✨
Thanks for the great tips! Newer subscriber loving watching your videos!
Hi from Australia 👋
Most of your tips I’ve always done, like hand washing dishes starting with glasses, then cutlery, cleanest plates first etc, since I was a little girl as I was taught (no dishwasher). I store my classes up and my hubby puts them in the cupboard rim down so I turn them 😂
For the sink, I do the same but out some baking Soda in the plug hole and add cleaning vinegar.
By the way, the vinegar in bag works well for shower head. I never thought to use it on my kitchen spout.
Very helpful and motivational video!!!! Many many thanks!!! Ps- your hair looks awesome💖💖
Thanks for watching Åmber!
I learned to tip cups upside down after living in places prone to mice. The mice seem to like to leave evidence in the cups.
I always wonder do cup upright people tend to rinse their cups before use.
Crystal B no rinse needed, but I have never seen anything gross in my cups
If you then store upside down your rims rest on areas that the mice inhabit and leave who knows what on the surface. No good answer? Maybe switch to disposable plastic cups?
Fantastic RUclips channel. Oh and LOVE your voice... ;)
I agree with you on storing the glasses and cups upright but I do tend to give them a quick rinse before using them just in case they have anything
Enjoyed watching thank you for sharing take care.
Melissa this jumpsuit is evvvvvverrrryyyyything!!!! 🔥💜
Love your jumpsuit❤️ And your video too!
NEEDED THIS! 🙌🏼 I’m 5 months pregnant and ready to throw everything out! 💆🏻♀️
Lydia M same. I’m 8 months pregnant and I’m still trying to finish cleaning and organizing. No time!!!!
If I could I wouldn’t put anything on countertops or maybe only a stylish coffee maker. Empty stone countertops look so beautiful and clean 😍
Xx
Thanks for watching Patricia!
We learned from the thirties to keep dirt out of our clean dishes. Dirt storms still drop by every now and then. Upside down for us!
I want to b minimalist with clean clear countertop but I don’t have enough storage cabinets so help
Millette Regacho same 😭😭😭
Me too 😞
Yeah! I know what you mean. Me too.
your videos are great. I follow every tip. thank you.
Super agree when our kitchen is clean ; I feel clean and d whole house . Same thing with make bed 😉feeling good !
This is timely! I was just looking toward the kitchen and thought how much “stuff” I have out....😔
I don't like drinking out of glasses that are rim side down because it feels like the clean glass now is dirty from touching the shelf. Rim side up is good!👍
That is what I say!!!
my countertops are full but I want to make them clear now. Thankyou for the video
Right side up always!!! Only the coffee maker and tea kettle on the counters.
