Bought my 9T Racer brand new in 2017. No test ride. I just had to have it. First few weeks, Oh no what have I done. This is like riding an ironing board holding onto a broom stick. After a month, this ain't so bad. After a few months, all day rides with ease. The following summer, a 2000 mile in three weeks tour through France. Ok that was pushing the envelope, and a few times I wished I'd taken the RS but it I made it. Seven years later, still got it, no plans to ever let it go.
So to summarise BMW if you are still alive and the Thruxton if your nearly dead. I like it luckily I prefer the R nine T so hopefully that means I'm still in the alive camp, however like you I'm not sure I'd want to own one, a little too extreme in the café position. Nice review probably a bit unfair in the bhp difference, maybe the Triumph 1200 would of been a bit more of a fair comparison.
Hello Mark nice video, so sorry for your cameras but you've done a good job! Very interesting viewing older motorcycles crossed with your experience and point of view!
Interesting comparison, although a Racer up against a 1200 Thruxton would have been fairer. As a Racer owner for six years I’ll say you have to get used to the riding position and build up your resilience, obviously I enjoy everything about the bike otherwise I wouldn’t have kept it. People also complain about the suspension, I see the bike you rode has an aftermarket Nitron unit. Personally I haven’t bothered, I don’t think I’m a fast enough rider to notice the difference. The Racer is a lot of fun every ride and I’m not in a hurry to change 🇬🇧
Rather like that r9t to be fair. Always been intrigued by them. Sounds rather like a vtwin to me, which is not a bad thing and as you say lots of engine braking. Never used to have to use brakes on mine unless stopping in a hurry. Looks rather pretty too. As for the triumph, maybe in 50 years if I’m still riding 😂
