    Love your work Mike.
My father taught me how to work with fibreglass when I was a young teenager. I needed to mend my surfboards and that led to mending all my mates surfboards and that eventually led to mending boats and when my father and I started to race sailboats he designed multiple parts that I would build moulds for and eventually amazing parts came from that. We transitioned to using carbon fibre when it became available and like yourself, I too dabbled with Kevlar. Now, I use a carbon/Kevlar weave for making parts. The best of both fabrics in one. Tricky to work with and it’ sometimes SUCKS, but when everything comes together and the part pops out of the mould... so worth all the work that went into to it.
Thank you for passing on your knowledge and sharing your passion. We all gain something from your efforts.

In relation to the poll that was posted; I dont even think a comparison can be made between Draco and Scrappy. They are 2 totally different planes. Each one has its unique features that make it just that, unique.
Draco goes a little deeper with some people because the wilga has a die hard following from long before Draco. Scrappy on the other hand is a scratch build. Im an old hotrodder from way back and biker my whole life. I wont ride a bike I didnt build from the ground up. And the same with a hotrod. A custom built whatever, bike, car, plane, ends up having its own soul. I always felt at one with my bikes because I knew them right down to the last bolt and washer. When it hick uped, I understood why. I felt a part of my build and its something Ive never been able to feel from something bought in a store.
And so scrappy has its own essence thats unique to Scrappy. Draco has its own uniqueness. So I dont think the 2 can be compared. Scrappy should be finished before a proper comparison anyway. Im sure Scrappy can fly as is right now, but Im pretty sure everyone is chomping at the bit in anticipation of the wings.

Imagine building something, that if you get it wrong, kills you... period. That level of confidence in your fabrication abilities is truly inspiring. Literally believing in yourself enough to bet your life on it, top that.

Indeed, but even further than that many people have built their own aircraft from hang gliders to pressurised high performance. But Mike goes even further he doesn't follow plans, he engineers his own wild ideas and makes them actually work, an work better than everyone else's. Then flies it. The man must have BALLS OF STEEL!!!

Mike! Now you've flown into my "wheelhouse" with this video. Would love to share with you the advancements we've made in the auto industry specifically as it relates to Design and clay modeling. Yes, we still do clay models - but it should come as no surprise with COVID-19 that we've made a pretty big pivot into the virtual design space. We are playing with stuff that would satisfy your attention for detail, as well as the need for speed. For fun, (outside my day job with cars) I modeled the AOPA sweepstakes RV-10 in full scale - completely inside VR!

Not my profession, but VR also instantly popped into my mind. It's not the same as standing next to the real thing, but it gets much closer than any screen when it comes to getting a feeling of how the shape of something will turn out in real life.

It amazes me you do not think these planes are wanted as mainstream. Your line would devastate the cookie cutter monopoly. I see your art as "Flying Harley/Indian" Renaissance Engineering is only limited by greed.
Proud to have a M/P sticker on my rock crawler. Much less a plane.

Can't beat opening RUclips and there is a new Scrappy upload ready to watch. Even better is seeing the fleet of Draco RC planes in the back. Awesome Mike. Would love to get my hands on one of those one day. Hope Horizon are getting ready for the RC Scrappy version too. !!!!

Mike, I didn’t realize how much of an artist you are! I found this video wonderfully fascinating. If I were still teaching Notre Dame, I would use it as a ow to lesson for sculpture students for building forms and taking molds. I left teach art and ended up owning a Architectural Design/ Build firm active in 17 states. So I have always appreciated your engineering and problem solving skills but today, I got to see your artistic abilities in a new a interesting way, Thanks so much!

Mike on first date: Hmmmm... OK this is a nice shape... it curves and returns like this... maybe I should 3D scan her and see what I can do with the aerodynamics ...
Date: Hey mister, do you want this cowling to blend nicely with your head?

Mike probably owns most electric and air powered tools there are, but when it comes to creation of the perfect compound curves requiring a good eye and sensitive feel, he resorts to a 2 x 4! Amazing video. Thank you!

I’m a little confused. How come when sanding you wouldn’t use a palm sander? Better finish? Just a question. Thanks

    • @Bullshit1011
      @Bullshit1011 3 года назад +1

I m not an expert , but I think they call it a long board and it helps with forming complex transitions and curves , I ve seen boat builders and panel beaters use the same thing when gaur a car or boat , palm sander is working in one spot
