    Steel is the most widely used material for reinforcing concrete elements. The two materials bind together without any slippage and thus act together as a single unit in resisting the applied loads and adding to the tensile strength of the concrete. The diameter and number of steel bars required for an RCC column depend on the size of the column, its load-carrying capacity, and the grades of steel and concrete used.

    Now aways nobody use 6mm dia ties for column. As per 13920-2016, dia of ties shall not less than 8mm dia. Hence you can use 8mm dia ties for column from brittle point of view.
