    DESCRIPTION:
    Russia's strategic ambitions in the Arctic are coming to a head, with a focus on the Svalbard archipelago. This remote region, known for its untamed wilderness and potential resources, has become a battleground for geopolitical power. Russia's calculated moves include the establishment of new ports, military installations, and even floating nuclear power plants, all centered around Svalbard.
    At the heart of this power play is Svalbard, once a symbol of peaceful coexistence, now becoming a microcosm for a new Cold War. The archipelago, with its unique climate and polar bears outnumbering people, is home to several settlements, each with its own story.
    The Svalbard Treaty of 1920 granted Norway sovereignty over the archipelago, establishing rules for its governance. However, Russia's historical investments, especially during the Soviet era, shaped the region's landscape and showcased its capabilities beyond the Iron Curtain.
    Today, Svalbard's significance lies not only in its natural resources but also in its strategic positioning near Russia's Northern Fleet bases. The melting Arctic ice opens up new shipping routes, increasing Svalbard's importance. Recent tensions, heightened by Russia's actions post-Ukraine invasion, have strained relations between Russian and Norwegian communities in Svalbard.
    Challenges to Norway's sovereignty include criticisms of environmental regulations, restrictions on activities, and suspicions around the use of a satellite station. Russia's potential leverage over these issues could pose a threat to Norway's adherence to the treaty.
    As the geopolitical landscape evolves, the question remains: Can Russia further stake its claim in Svalbard without risking a major international conflict? The region's vulnerability and Russia's wounded geopolitical standing create a delicate balance. The Arctic's future hangs in the balance, caught between competing powers and the shifting dynamics of a world in flux.

    This is genuinely the best video yet, the editing has reached the next level!
    There's definitely some things to work out, but I think it's the right direction. Also the sections with you speaking to the camera are a nice touch, though I think it needs some fine tuning with making them blend/fit better into the video, and in my opinion looking at videos from the Present Past, Johnny Harris and the Faultline, and seeing how they use video footage and recordings of a narrator together for a smooth flow in the video. As of now your good idea is imo held back by the narration to camera bits seeming a bit hastily added onto the video rather than properly integrated, which most notably to me is present in how the audio doesn't feel like a continuation from the previous clip to the narration to camera, but two separate video and audio clips back to back. Even having the background music perhaps continue behind the narration audio would have helped with this.
    Still besides some hickups with the new editing style, a phenomenal video imo.

      @Станислав-с6п8я 10 месяцев назад

      @@frankthetank5708 The only treaty in which Russia confirmed the absence of its claims to Crimea was the Treaty of Friendship and Good Neighborliness. It was signed by President Kuchma and President Yeltsin immediately after the collapse of the Soviet Union. And Ukraine violated it. The cornerstone of this agreement was the preservation of the Black Sea Fleet base in Sevastopol, but even before President Yanukovych, under President Yushchenko, it was officially announced that after 2017 there would be no Russian ships left in Sevastopol. The website of the Ukrainian Rada even launched a counter that counted down the days in reverse order. Ukraine supported the “road map” for joining NATO at the beginning of 2008, and if not for the defeat of the Georgian army in the “Olympic War” on 08/08/08, it would undoubtedly have tried to join NATO under President Yushchenko. Or don’t you think that an attempt to join a hostile military Alliance violates the concept of Friendship and good neighborliness? State policy of supporting nationalist movements that eliminated mass rallies with thousands of supporters at which the prizes “put the Russians to the knife!” and “Russians (hang) on branches (of trees).” Isn’t this a violation of the treaty of friendship and good neighborliness? Or how do we generally understand the concept of “friendship and good neighborliness”? The initiative for the transition of Crimea was entirely in the hands of the residents of Crimea; if it were not for the 90% support of the population, Russia would not even try to fight for Crimea. As it was in 1991. As part of the Soviet Union, Crimea enjoyed great political autonomy, and in 1991, at the time of the collapse of the Soviet Union, the Crimean Council decided to consolidate its rights to autonomy within Ukraine. There were even opinions expressed that if Crimea was denied autonomy, Crimea would declare its independence. Both from Ukraine and from Russia. This was actually the dream of the Crimeans, they dreamed of independence. But trucks with soldiers arrived from Kyiv, all political leaders of Crimea were arrested, protests were suppressed by force. Russia remained silent at this moment. It was then that the Crimeans realized that there was no way for them to be independent, either they are with Ukraine or they are with Russia. It was the lack of such experience in the struggle for independence in Lugansk and Donetsk that played a cruel joke on them. At a certain point, they decided that they could be independent from both Russia and Ukraine. It was the lack of support for Russia in the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics at the beginning of their existence that stopped Russia from acting according to the Crimean scenario. Crimea is Russian land; there was no Ukraine there before the transfer of Crimea to Ukraine by Khrushchev. Until the 18th century, Crimea was the Crimean Tatar Khanate, then the Russians came and destroyed the Khanate. By the way, it is the legacy of the Crimean Tatars that allows Turkey to make territorial claims to Crimea, although the Turks themselves were never there, and the Crimean Tatar Khanate was just a vassal of the Ottoman Empire. If Norway declares war on Russia as part of the general NATO coalition, you can rest assured that these islands will become Russian as a result of the conflict ;))) But a conflict of this scale will with one hundred percent probability end in mutual nuclear strikes both at the tactical and strategic level and no one will give a damn about these islands .

      @@bubble0 The Soviet Union won both of those wars.
      The reason why the Soviet Union didn't ultimately occupy and annex Finland was because the Race to Berlin was astronomically more important, and Stalin secured a favourable peace and moved the troops formerly engaged in Finland towards Germany, where they were desperately needed.
      You can't fight on all fronts at the same time and get a favourable outcome, especially then time is running out.

    This is a silly propaganda video. Westerners love it and Russians can find numerous flaws and mistakes in the claims made within it. Had the producer of this video talked to both sides, one's perspective could be balanced. Instead the video clearly is Russophobic. As to their brief mention of Nordstream, Norway is complicit in the US bombing and coverup of the Nordstream blast. The truth will eventually show its face. For now, it seems Russia is content with the situation. Hopefully differences can be worked out between the countries involved.
