CairineTheElfHearted The state song was originally going to be Louie Louie, which has a lot more relevance and history. But this shite won by around three votes.
I've lived in Washington my entire life and that song describes it absolutely perfect I could not think of a better way of stating how nice my home state is.
I’ve left Washington for half a year, and I always get tearful when I listen to this tune. I miss Caphill, downtown, UW district, the lakes, the sound, and other beautiful places in Washington, where I find and feel peace.
@@badpiggies988 when my parents moved us out of the country it was a very sad day. I miss it more and more everyday. I miss the rain surprisingly a lot now living in an f'ing desert.
I've lived in Washington my whole life and this is my first time hearing this song. IMO we should play the State anthems at smaller events like at school assembly's, and play the national anthem at big ones like Sporting Events and Military events, etc.
wow im leaving washington in a few days and for the first time in my life living here, im not sure when i'll be back. and now im crying. i love this state so much
Sang this in Elementary School in the mid sixties. My kids never sang it in a school program when they were in Elementary but then again it was adopted in 1959 so it was less then a decade old when we sang it in school programs. Great song.
@@harlahan2097 lol just listened to Louie Louie I'm glad it isn't our state song it doesn't represent the state at all. Washington, My Home has a majestic feel to it like your seeing the cascade mountains and pine forest and the Columbia river
Life long Washingtonian and I never knew we had this as our state song. I wouldn’t mind a condensed version that’d be more priming version as a state anthem.
Who knew? You did a great job singing it though. Thank you Helen Davis. Also, thank you Helen for the overnight camping and parking area you gave. It's very peaceful. Thanks Lion members for caring for it in South Bend, WA. Keep it clean, keep it nice, keep it cheap and it will KEEP.
Helen Davis was my mother's friend, too! Mom sang this song for the State Legislature for the adoption. I don't remember singing it so slowly. This version is also missing the intro.
Yes, I’ve never heard this song before either. I’m teaching Washington State history to our high schoolers next fall and came across this poem in the curriculum. Then realized it was our state song. It’s interesting, though, that the first verse of the original poem has been omitted. Which states… This is my country, God gave it to me; I will protect it, every keep it free. Small towns and cities rest here in the sun, Filled with our laughter, “They will be done.”
The first line in the song by Helen Davis, arranged by Stuart Churchhill is: “This is my country; God gave it to me; I will protect if, ever keep it free. Small towns and cities rest here in the sun, filled with our laughter. Thy will be done.” Wish they wouldn’t have taken God out of it.
I love both songs you mentioned. WA my Home will be part of my memorial service. Luck, just blind luck that I was born here and couldn't be happier. WA has everything, just every thing. I was raised in the upper northwest corner of this state and I learned as a young lad to say to friends, if asked, "Do you like living there?" My answer is always the same. "Oh, yes But you have to really, really like rain! and grey scries. But the four days of summer are just outstanding!"
While my homestate is boring Nebraska(and I still love it dearly), i admit my resident state is one the most beautiful in the union and its state song represents that.
The first stanza starts with "This is my country; God gave it to me." The state government is dominated by liberals who hate God and religion and want to eliminate all trace of it, so omitting the first part is to be expected.
I was born and raised in the Skagit Valley, but moved soon after my 30th and have been a Colorado resident since 1998. I love both states (Washington for the green and rain, and Colorado for the sunshine and the Rocky Mountains); just wish Washington State had a flag as cool as Colorado's!
Beautiful song. they left off the first verse though - This is my country, God gave it to me; I will protect it, ever keep it free. Small towns and cities rest here in the sun, Filled with our laughter, “They will be done.”
Washington isn't my native state, and I've lived only round a third of my life here, but I love it. Sure, there are things I don't like about Washington, and some of my worst memories take place here, but it's still my home, and I plan on staying here for the rest of my life.

This song was written by my son’s best friend’s grandmother-
Helen Davis.

Or better, have Roll On Columbia as our anthem. They once tried to make that our anthem but the state legislature refused for some reason
The state anthem should be played throughout WA alongside the Star Spangled Banner!
It was played last time i was in Seattle which was really cool
