    Worn out graphics tees, faded jeans, faded belts, white socks, white belts, and acid wash anything, are actually pretty fashionable now, they just don't individually go with your preppy type fashion. I've seen them worn beautifully with the laid back, casual, sometimes retro style. Everything else I can agree on though haha.

    These hard rules lists are always funny because if you wait long enough you will see the people saying "don't, never, get rid of, etc." adopting some version of what they banned. If you have the ability you can make almost anything stylish. Even more strange is that the people who make these lists seem almost oblivious to the fact that STYLES CHANGE AND ARE CYCLICAL! Yes, you have timeless looks like a white tee, dark jeans and loafers/converse. But, do we really want everyone adopting the exact same thing? It's almost as if they don't recognize that by having a hard list of do's and don'ts they are inadvertently establishing a uniform whicb goes against everything that style is.

    I think so many people feel bad about throwing away things because they just see it as throwing away money. Even though I don''t have issues with donating my old clothes as I revamp my wardrobe, it does feel make me uncomfortable thinking about the environmental effects of how people treat clothing. It's not completely related but just something I was thinking about when watching the video.
    Edit: It would be really fun to see you guys do a video about fashion things you disagree on. It'd help drive the point that at the end of the day, fashion is subjective (but style is forever)!

    • @ray89520
      @ray89520 6 лет назад +5

      That environment aspect is a point.
      Probably choosing and buying more smart and not like every season the newest stuff a good amount of money could be saved and also has a positive impact on the environment.
      Especially for the better quality (and so often more expensive) items the more versatile shopping and not too much current style dependent is a good idea.

      Swagger Gentleman If you are one of the very few men who have the money ( because a classic wide brim fedora is very expensive) and the style to wear a fedora or panama without looking very dated and some how avoid the connotation they carry in most areas today, then do it. It can be very elegant sartorial look, but to claim they are some how easier to pull off then a dad cap which basically looks fine on everyone is just a lie.

    • @swaggergentleman1215
      @swaggergentleman1215 6 лет назад +4

      john c bro I have the style but not the money, so totally got the vibes there. I personally keep a nice plain black baseball cap for bad hair days so I would suggest everybody to go for that. However dad caps: if they are clean and subtle, sure bro why not after all style is how you wanna portray yourself to the world and nobody has the right to question that.❤

    I found that light grey socks are more practical than white socks, in the form of no show socks. They stay looking fresher longer.
    Undershirts protect your clothes from your body, allowing you to get away with fewer washings, saving your color vibrancy. A little controversial.
    A lot of people hate Fedoras and Panama hats. They are pretty hard to pull off both individually and from the social perception around them.
    Marie Kando suggested holding an item and asking the universe, "Does this spark joy?" If it does, then rock it.

    100% agree with everything, but white socks might be a stretch. I assume you are referring to crew socks, because I have plenty of low cut and no show socks in white. I tend to agree that white crew socks are difficult to style, but it can be done with more trendy athletic leisure outfits. Not my thing though. I still have a few pair of white crew socks and I solely wear them when wearing high boots, where no one will see them.

      Exhibit A- For not following some random 30 something female who feels her opinion matters. Honestly men or women shouldn't ever wear anything simply because they think the opposite sex will "like it". People should wear clothes they like and that they feel comfortable and confident in, that's really all that matters. People who try to chase fashion trends are simply brain dead and probably need some retraining on life.

  • @dabeaner147
    @dabeaner147 6 лет назад +37

    I highly disagree with the white socks. If you’re involved in the blue collar/construction workforce, white socks are probably the most common and best option because they don’t absorb as much heat as black ones do. And if you play sports such as basketball or soccer, you’re always gonna use long, white socks for the same reason. And if you’re going for a look in which you’ll probably never expose your socks like wearing boots, then I don’t see the problem with them being thrown away

    • @MensFashioner

      Not to say that white ones are bad; but almost most of us are wearing jeans; which is probably in blue or maybe light blue or black; the contrast between the white and these colors will make them look bad.
      Try light grey; grey; light blue socks and you will thank me.

    Ashley, I owned a pair of Allen Edmond Monk Strap shoes that I re-soled and kept in great shape for 30 years before they recently broke down the back so if someone has a good brand of shoes that can be rescued don't toss. As for white socks, they are fine when you are putting on some boots to go out and muck that stalls.

      Noah To be honest, the advice given is their opinion. Fashion is subjective and varies greatly throughout various cultures and regions in the world. So to say or to imply that what they're saying makes someone "look good" or makes someone "generally attractive" isn't necessarily right. I've seen or been around friends from the Caribbean and the friends from the African continent that rock Jorts and it looks 🔥 🔥. They've also rocked white loafers, white belts and it looks 🔥 with their outfits. They have zero difficulty "pulling" or attracting the opposite sex. They frequently get compliments from the opposite sex for such choices. With that being said, I agree with most of this list. (Anyone with two brain cells will) But to make generalizations or to blatantly say something doesn't look good because you don't like it or can't pull it off (as she did with bracelets, white loafers, jorts, white belts, dad hats) is asinine.

      @@lilsainterico28 Jamerican 28 I've also learnt over time that we shouldn't judge or criticise people these days because everything we wear is from our own opinions and backgrounds so to just say we must not own a particular item according to a particular style is definitely not right. Everyone's decisions and preferences should be respected. And how did certain items, like much of the items in the video, become popular enough to continue to be made if they shouldn't be owned by people. I know it's all subjective and we gotta acknowledge that too.

    If you're like me (circa 2016), you'd be like "who are these people and why should I listen to them? Not my acid washed jeans!" Let me tell you over the course of 2 years listening to Ashley's advice has changed my life subsequently from just changing my style/wardrobe. Listen to her when she tells you to throw away those beads! Everyone, I mean everyone from the current women in my life, to the women entering my life, coworkers, Ig followers, strangers... all have complimented me on my look and character confidence. She knows what she's talking about people!

    Square-toed shoes are OK, I've got two pairs of dressy ones and they fit/feel great. White socks; definitely no over-the-calf styles, but short ankle ones are OK; just make sure they are not dingy, gray, worn out white socks. Worn out jeans are a no-no? heck they're just getting comfy when the white areas appear at the wear points!.

    Keeping my dad hat. Wearing it the right way, not that sloppy mess she showed Kanye in. Jorts are not quite out yet, have to be at the knee or just above. Unless your one of those who need to show your massive fit thighs. Also keeping my white belt. Because men with real fashion can break some of the rules when they are above basic fashion. Everything else, common sense if you follow or enjoy fashion.

    Good list, but sorry Ashley I'm keeping my white running socks until they're ready to replace! I already look like such a sweaty mess when I run that I don't think many people I pass are too concerned about what's on my feet...they're more worried about just getting out of my way!

    If everyone threw all these items out, and replaced them with what is "approved of" everyone would look the same. Where is the fun in that? I like the videos, but the lists of things to get rid of is extremely subjective. Some are obvious choices that should have never been a trend, but that is what will always suck about trends, they are expected to expire. Something timeless would never be considered trendy. Rock what you like regardless.

    • @MorganKing95
      @MorganKing95 6 лет назад +1

      Not everyone looks the same; you can already put people in the categories of "thin men", "heavy-built men", and "muscular men", as well as warm, neutral, or cold skin tones, oval, triangle, or squared face, and fine or thick hair (or bald).
      And when you've done that, there's a lot of colors to choose from, and even if we only mention the two most popular styles (namely street style and dapper look), then there's a lot of different items to choose from, and very few decide to go with everything.

    White socks have no dyes, so if you have an injury while exercising, you don't risk dye going in the wound. It's always seemed like a stretch, and most long distance runners use special compression socks.
