Black is just so classic. Thanks for your continued inspiration!
I am so impressed, you were so thorough and gave so much help! Thanks!
Gorgeous…..I love the base on this piece!!
Beautiful piece and like the hardware you selected. Thanks for sharing!
Love your videos. Your work is beautiful!!! And I appreciate the fact that we don't have to listen to information that has noting to do with the furniture. You are direct, and right to the point. Please don't change. You are exactly as your video title. A Ray of Sunlight. Thank you.
Oh thank you so much! ❤️
Great video! Ty for being honest and highlighting mistakes and showing what to do to correct them! ❤
Lovely job. You always do things properly and take time to achieve great finish.
Thank you for these videos. I am about to work on these two pink side tables. I want to paint them black and this tutorial helped me pick the right paint to get it done right. 😊
So amazing! Love it!!!
Great tutorial... Loving the original hardware 🙂
Beautiful. I would have gone with the other knobs but I see the appeal of the original pulls. Understated.
You deserve praise for recycling and giving a second life to old furniture, especially cheaply made pieces, instead of just buying IKEA throw-away crap. Even the cheapest furniture of yore is at another level compared to IKEA (or its copiers).
Thank you for this I’m currently painting my grey dresser black. I didn’t know where to start until I saw your video! Thanks soooo much ❤
PERFECTION!!!
Love the original hardware
This video was very thorough and I loved it
Beautiful!
Excellent video, thanks
After watching your video, I decided to keep my bed black. I was wanting to get away from dark colors and brightening up my new home, but you convinced me to just re-paint and brighten up my bedding. Thank you.
Love it!!
Excellent instructions! Clear & precise. TY
Glad it was helpful!
Simply beautiful! Thank you so much!
Thank you!!
Wonderful! This video is very helpful and inspiring. You have such a nice, clear, down to earth voice and you explain things super well. 👌
You are amazing teacher. I am planning to go my 1st piece and there is so much info with little to no context out there. Your video help me understand things better.
Thank you for clear explaination. Love you from Philippines. 🙂
Thank you for this fun one! I've been looking for "DIY paint furniture black" without the high cost of tools and steps. This is perfect! Thank you so much for the education when it comes to painting furniture and especially, in black. My favorite 🖤🤘
Glad you like it! Thanks!
This looks amazing. You did a great job and your instructions were very good.
I have an oak curio cabinet I need to paint black to fit into my new house. It is mostly glass so not much to actually paint. I’ve been searching for the best way to do this and I have chosen your method.
Perfect for my project. I’ll try to do before after pic’s and share.
Awesome!
You always have great content. Thank you!
Awe thank you!!
Looks great, love the ring knobs.
Thanks!
Wow beautiful
This was the video I needed two weeks ago 😭 at least I know for future reference. Thank you
as a professional painter, I, of course, seek ways of saving time & $$.
I noticed you found bonding success with the AquaLock black. I find this product (in black) dries to a handsome, low-luster finish and actually seems to “level-out” as you mentioned a few times. Why not apply another coat and use this as finish? I find these lower luster finishes are actually preferred by clients these days, as glossy finishes seem to be out. Also, I find you’re better off not informing a client that the low luster finish that they’re so impressed with is actually a primer, they usually can’t wrap there head around that. 🤔
Beautiful
Beautiful work and such a fantastic how-to. Many many thanks!
Thanks!
Wow - this is such a good set of instructions. Thank you for sharing.
Glad it was helpful!
Talented
Really like black on this piece with the part of the original hardware.

Beautiful transformation. I'm a new subscriber.....Love your VIBE...✌

Beautiful ❤❤
Thank you! 😊
Great video, helped understand.
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you. I want to paint laminate vanity doors. This was very helpful.
Good luck with your project!
Molto bello🥰🥰👏👏
Like the gold hardware
Great job! I think a gold piece of hardware would elevate the piece even more!!!!
Thank you so much you really helped inspire me to paint some of my furniture
That is awesome!
Bright gold would be a beautiful contrast
I would love a video to identify solid wood vs veneer or laminate etc
Great video! I prefer spraying or a good brush and my fave black paint is Melange Jett or GF Enduro Black Poly.
I prefer spraying too! And love both of those paints! But not everyone can or wants to spray, so I like to switch it up.
I’m always painting a piece of furniture black! Yours is gorgeous as always. I’ve learned a few things I didn’t know about black. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Thank you Sue! I love black too! Especially when you don’t have to topcoat it! 😂 what black do you usually use?
@@ARayofSunlight I’ve been trying a lot of different brands. HTP, I’ve used quite a bit. Rust oleum milk paint,Behr paint and primer in tricorn black. Such a beautiful black. I have a brand called Lillymoon, haven’t tried this one yet.
What do you think of rustoleum milk paint?
I bought some Lilly moon too! Gonna test that soon. ❤️
@@ARayofSunlight I liked it,not what I expected. Need to try GF milk next. I think you said you liked this brand. Right?
Oh yeah GF is amazing. 😍
The end result is just gorgeous!!!! I kinda like the gold knobs myself. They added a nice pop of color. Thanks for sharing!
Very nice
New Subscriber here! Thank you for teaching us.
Yay, thanks!
I prefer to get more coverage quickly in the beginning with a roller and then finish with a brush
🖤🖤🖤
Very well prepared aND FINISHED good job will last
Thanks!
You’re really amazing! Thank you for your patience to film every step- I’m going to attempt to paint black nice dresser I got for free and your tips and tricks are really helpful! Do you have a TT or iG?
nice
Yes make a video plz on diferente types of wood
🖤🖤
THIS was very SATISFYING! Thank you! I have a piece I want to work on.
Im literally debating on going to the store to get everything I need.
My toxic trait thinking ill do it all today. 🤣
Hahahaha!
Looks really good but I like the gold I think pops really makes it pop better than the black
👍
Love it so much! Did you paint the original k obs black?
Thanks! I didn’t do anything to the knobs.
Hi thanks for your video! Very informative! Looks amazing! Can I ask. Is the black paint a satin or Matt finish please? Thanks in advance.
Thanks! The black paint is a matte finish.
Hi! What is the purpose of the pantyhose? And do you have an Amazon storefront/profile from which we can browse your favorite items? I’m not sure what exactly that is called
Can I use wall paint? By caparol?
Please do a video on painting laminate explaining how you can tell it is not wood, thank you.
Laminate is still wood, its easy to tell because its essentially just a wear layer, quite simple to spot in all honesty.
Can you use spray paint?
Do you sand between coats
Is there a way temporarily paint your furniture black? I want to paint this set I just got but it’s so beautiful I might want to come back to the wood look later 😅
No, there isn’t a way to super quickly and easily remove paint. You can always remove it, but it will be another project.
I have a question: I have some kid marks on my painted piece. Also the surface is a bit rough - hard to dust.
I’ve decided I need to seal it. How can I get the marks off / rough spots off before I seal it? Should I sand it?
You can try sanding it. But it’s hard to tell you what you can and can’t do when I’m not sure what the paint was. Some paints should not be topcoated too.
Why didnt you use an all in one primer/paint to begin with?
Do you have any tips for painting because I bought the same brush and similar paints but mine looks a bit more streaky
Hi! This might help you out! arayofsunlight.com/how-to-paint-furniture-without-brush-marks/
I kept going with more layers and it looks great. You just need the perfect amount of paint on the brush which can get tricky
Does it matter if I used dewaxed or regular shellac before painting? I can't seem to a definitive answer
Nope it doesn’t matter from what I have researched a few years ago.
Do you scuff between coats foe 2nd and 3rd coats of paint?
I didn’t on this piece. Except I sanded the top to get rid of the brush marks and stuff.
I sand between coats only if I don’t like the brush marks or texture in the finish.
I painted a dining table black and mixed few tablespoons of the black paint with water based poly and it looks gray. Is that normal? Will it dry clear ?
Yes it is normal for the poly to look gray if you put black paint in it.
Just an FYI, everyone should ALWAYS use Shellac on any furniture you paint! Otherwise the paint is harder to strip & paint gets stuck into the wood fibers, then it needs a dental pick to get them out. 2 coats of shellac, light sand with at least 400 grit or paper bag, then paint
Do we sand with 400 grit until all the shine is off?
I prefer to paint with a brush. I find the painting process to be therapeutic and it’s the cherry on top in furniture refinishing for me.
What kind of paint brush was used in this video?
round brush
Hi, do you have the link for the varnish sponges please? Thanks
I think I left a link in the video description. If not, you can search Amazon for “painting sponge”.
@@ARayofSunlight Thanks so much for the reply. I was searching for varnish sponges but found what I needed once I changed to painting sponges.
How do you know what number sand paper to use ??
The lower the number the more rough it is and the faster it will remove something. 220 grit sandpaper is perfect for sanding before painting. It doesn’t scratch too much or too little.
Did you do this yesterday
Do what yesterday?
🥇👍🇲🇦🇲🇦🇲🇦
what is the difference between laminate and veneer?
Veneer is a plain wood sandwiched by a more expensive wood on the outside. Wood makers discovered that delicate woods such as mahogany last better when a piece of birch or pine is placed in the middle between very thin layers of the mahogany. Laminate is a man made product is bound with wood in chips or sawdust. It is laminated or coated with a plastic or man made product!
@@catofthecastle1681 great explanations
Laminate is usually a thin layer of plastic.
Veneer is usually a very thin slice of real wood.
Both can be put on top of manufactured wood (MDF or particle board) or real wood.
Laminate is also very slick and shiny, so paint has a lot harder of a time sticking to it.
i see that you left the backing plate off the original drawer pulls when you put them back on the dresser. can you please tell us why you made that choice? thanks you.
Good eye! I just wanted a different look. Something more simple I guess.
@@ARayofSunlight : that's great! thanks for getting back to me. *:-)*
I’m surprised that even with the black primer you still needed three coats.
Where I primed only needed one coat of paint. It was the rest of the dresser that took 3 coats.
Make it wooden with the help of the Woodglut instructions.
Always strain your paint, never dip your brush in your paint can, it can contaminate your paint.
It’s not exactly sponge painting
Old hardware
please people take scotch bride red and give quick scratch paint will stay where it should be YOU NEVER PAINT ON SHINY surfaces NEVER it takes you 5 min to give nice gently scratch and paint will hold otherwise you are doomed
Who still has pantyhose? It’s getting hard to even find a pair!
Haha I had to buy some. Thankfully Walmart had plenty on the shelves, and I didn’t care what size they were. 🤣
Thank you so much, I am an older woman who cannot afford to pay people to do everything I need done. So your diy how to do is very helpful, keep them coming.
