Ultimate BONUS! My two favorite cyclists in the world. Both Katie and Juliet are such genuine people with their hearts on their sleeves. I love the Dales and the British hedges both. So much better than eastern Colorado - but not better than the Front Range.
Awwww thanks Len! Yeah both are great but Dales just get me every single time 😍😍
What a fantastic channel, I found it through Juliet’s channel. You go that step further than Juliet because you actually reply to your comments. I’m looking forward to watching your past videos as well as the new ones to come. Keep up the good work Katie. 👍🏽
Tall hedgerows are how we do it in Devon! You missed the best bit of the Tarka Trail from Plymouth to Okehampton via Plymbridge Woods and Meldon viaduct 😉
❤you Katie! For sticking with 25mm tyres and rim brakes!
Always! :)
@@KatieKookaburra 💖💖💖💖
...and tubed tires!
I’ve ridden the Dales and North Yorkshire Moors but Dartmoor more often - as others have said you missed the excellent Granite and Drakes Trails to Plymouth, but also superb routes through Princetown to Tavistock where the open countryside will remind you of the North, but with better weather!
Yorkshire - and thats from someone from the House of Lancaster! 😂
We're spoilt for choice on this little Island of ours but you know ... Dales and Calderfornia every time! Not biased at all! 🙂
Yasssss you know it, Juliet is going to LOVE the views but hate the climbs hehe
Two Peas in a Pod!
Always love Juliet when you two team up and her own vids. Good stuff.
Me tooooo! The best fun :)
There is a version of the Devon Coast to Coast that goes from Ilfracombe to Plymouth, 102 miles and follows 3 rail paths, Tarka Trail, Granite Way and Drake Trail. This to goes over Dartmoor and is extremely beautiful. Will be doing this ride as my 2024 challenge and starting dead earlier like Juilet. With Dartmoor, if just saw hedges, you missed the best bits of the open moorland like you had at Haytor.
Thanks Katie and Juliet, these joint videos are a blast and much more than just cycling. Can't wait to see Juliet in God's own county; we have real hills and not as many hedges!
Bloody brilliant! I love you two! I was thrilled when I saw you guys on the Tarka trail. I lived down there nearly 30 years ago when the tarka trail was more gravelly. It looks awesome now!
She’s right! Fatter tires have less rolling resistance and are much more comfortable. Unfortunately to accommodate fatter tires you need disc brakes. They work better anyway! Tubeless sucks though!
I think Katie's frame has direct mount rim brakes so 30mm or so should be doable!
Pure fun on bikes😊 keep them coming😂🙏🍀
Yeessssss exactly!! 3 more vids from this trip to come :) next one up Weds
They are back with more fun adventures, can’t wait for the next episode ❤
That was great fun - I love the banter between you two
Us too! :)
You guys are great together, very uplifting
Audax hotel:
Bus shelter 😂
So enjoyable watching you both 🥰
Awwww thank you!!!
The Giggle Sisters ride again!
Yeaaaaaaahhhhh 🤩🤩🤩🤩
I put white tape on my new bike, not making that mistake again
Dartmoor ❤
Dorset is great for cycling too but don’t tell anyone 😊
Juliet and Katie together is like my dearest Lidl promotion which usually pops up at Christmas: buy one ( gingerbread, typically) get one for free!! =]
🎅 🎁🍪
Open the gates people, open the gates! I would come all the way up to Devon, England, just to open the gates for Juliet as early as 5 o' clock in the morning and help her snatch the QOM. Few slices of apple pie might be required though!
That is, unless the whole county worth of pies will have "mysteriously" exhausted by the time I get there.
😯😟 😄😊 👋 =)
Juliet is right and we need to sort you out Katie - Devon is wonderful and you are too spoiled In Yorkshire :=) :
Cafe 360 , twice in a day! You really should have gone to the cafe and then climbed Haytor and then gone across the moor and come back to Moretonhampstead that way - or, better still, crossed right across the moor to Tavistock and then climbed up to Okehampton. Then you would have started to see the real Dartmoor - not just a few high hedged lanes!
Also, following the Tarka Trail for so long is very nice but it's flat and you miss out on the constant up and down hill climbs of mid/North Devon. That is what the area is famous for - there aren't so many places where the overall min to max height difference is under 300 feet but a typical club ride of 30 miles is over 4000 feet of climbing! (and yes, we still work in old measurements in Devon)
BTW: your return train passed within three miles of where I live - right in the centre of Devon.
Seriously though, it was nice to see you cycling in my area and I hope you enjoyed it more than your video suggested !
Tarka trail Barnstaple to Plymouth and back in the day ( the lighthouse ride) 165 miles
Not much compares with Yorkshire. Maybe northern Scotland…
Great video Katie 🙌 I’ve ridden in Devon and Cornwall before and now live in Halifax (Calderfornia) and I have to say the climbs and views up here are so much better!
@juliet. i too have been advised to cut out sugar, what do you replace it with ? i try slow release carbs but do miss my sugary treats especially on long rides ...
I love your sense of adventure and the banter between two of my favorite youtube ladies. Thanks,
Awww thanks so much! I just looooove the outdoors and adventure and Juliet is the same so works so well ☀️ thanks so much x
Love these adventures you both take together as well as on your own. I watch both perspectives. Thanks for posting.
Who's the best climber then? who's your money on Juliet or Katie?
If Juliet is involved in the navigation you'll both probably end up on opposite coasts 😉
🤣🤣🤣ooooof brutal! To ge fair she was in charge of the route 🙂🙂🙂
Did seem to be a little "hedgey" at first but greatly improved later on, must admit still like North Wales though the coastal path to Llandudno then across to Cornwall is stunning 😊
It’s so ‘hedgey’ - living on the cool side eh?! 🤘🏻
Gravel is more fun on 25 mm rim brake.
Recent joiner here. Loving you vids. Deffo recommend discs though unless you’ve got Campagnolo rims
Cheers Dave! :)
Canadian Rockies is better!
Yorkshire every time !
I love you for your rim brakes! Me too, there’s something a bit more civilized about rim brakes for some reason.
I knowwwww right? I do love them rim brakes for the simplicity of them - long lasting, just the real deal.
No contest , ridden both Yorkshire every time! Oh I am from Sheffield, does that matter?
Yassssssss duck!!! :) We know good hills
Excellent video!
There's nothing I've found so far, outside the Lakes / Dales / Pennines better for cycling...Juliet's eyes are going to be wiiiiiiide when you bring her up here
Katie and Juliet, I've heard good things about the coast to coast, or c2c, from Whitehaven to Sunderland/Newcastle. It apparently has fantastic views and demanding hills
Yorkshire for sure! But my fave is the peaks!!! 🤩
I mean the Peaks isn’t toooo shabby is it?! 🙃🙃🙃
If you're looking to explore northern parts of the country into the Yorkshire region, I can recommend parts of this five-day self-supported tour route that I did with one of my best friends in Sept. 2019: Carlisle to Keswick, to Alston, to Darlington, to York, and finally to Leeds. We chose Leeds for logistical reasons as we were shipping our bikes back home to the U.S. so we could catch a train to Harrogate for the UCI road world championships.
I particularly enjoyed the scenery in the lake district and Pennines. We had to cross over a 300-400 m fell into Alston, which was an adventure for many reasons, and the following day started with a similar climb but then was a long gradual descent into Darlington. I enjoyed the inital descent that day because it wasn’t too technical, so I could safely enjoy the scenery and take videos.
Because we started near the Lake District and were traveling to the World Championships, I called this The Lakes to Legends Bike Tour. 😀
Well I'm truly grateful to you. living in and cycling the Yorkshire Dales I now a no longer need to apply for a passport to go and cycle in the South Wests busy and not very hilly roads, I can see hedges for free on RUclips. Best wishes from the top of Malham Cove.
Definitely prefer Yorkshire though Dartmoor isnt too shabby just not as good. Agreed 25 mil tyres, rim brakes and latex inner tubes.
OMG, you two crack me up!!!
😛😛
Random question but what camera do you use on the bike?
It’s a GoPro Hero 11 :)
Been all over. Dales, north York moors and Pennines are all fantastic and where I ride all the time. The best “lesser known” areas are Shropshire hills and Forest of bowland. Best gravel is Scotland and kielder forest. The toughest concentration of climbs are Halifax / sowerby bridge area and north York moors (glaidsdale), and obviously the lakes have some nasty climbs but quite spaced out so you get lots of rest . Peaks are over rated. North wales is amazing near Llangollen but too wet. (Equally as brutal as Yorkshire).
Great vid - had a chuckle to myself when you're talking about liking big, open, massive views whilst standing in front of a picturesque seaside harbour.... but I get the hedge thing.
Devon is far better than Yorkshire off course.
Oooh yeah Juliet said how good it is down there. Might dust off the ol' gravel bike :)
Thanks for sharing that fantastic video-I can't believe you cycled past our house! I'm also excited to take on the Tarka Trail up to the coast soon. Katie, you absolutely must try going off-road to explore the breathtaking beauty of Dartmoor. It's a one-of-a-kind landscape filled with ancient megaliths, charming ponies, majestic tors, and stunning vistas. I'm sure Juliet is the perfect companion for such an adventure, so maybe bring a gravel bike - next time you visit!
Yorkshire is more relaxing. Found Devon / Dartmoor lanes stressful with hedges etc. Living in West Yorkshire is ACE
See it’s us northerners - we have something against hedges 😋🙊
We love the open space 😂
My fav. Is LEJOG part of UK. Nice and varied, mind you its 1000 miles and 11 days😅
You want hills?? Try the North Devon coast road! Also, there’s a devil of a hill out of Looe in South Cornwall.
Yorkshire is lovely, but you obviously missed the best parts of Dartmoor and Exmoor. I promise you if you fallow some of the coastal routes you will soon find out how hilly it is and see some fantastic scenery.
You barely tickled the edge of Dartmoor! "Next time", keep on after Haytor to Widecombe in the Moor and then follow to Two Bridges. Hang a right to Postbridge then on to Moretonhampstead. You'll see some proper open moorland then... and plenty of sheepies!
Ok watch my last video…. 🤩🤩🤩
@@KatieKookaburra Ahhhh :D
Another video from the two glamorous ladies of cycling, oh and Dave!
Carbs and cycling nothing better that looks like an epic ride. This is a great example of how rides are meant to be, Carbs FTW!! 💪💪💪
Okay! I’ll have to send you the ultimate views!😂
Devon, especially the beach, looks familiar.
Nice one Katie / Juliet. Yes Yorkshire every time :).
Happily help Juliet with Qom attempt
I know you would be so good and offer :) you’re such a sweetheart Xx
What do you think of Dartmoor? A lot of bush's
I hope that makes it into the tourist information booklets
Quote “too bushy”
Flashes and waxing and shaving 😂
Love all your videos katie 😊
Thank you Katie - great name by the way 🙂🙂
Cheers hun I've been on my bike and I love it 😀
Who is who?
It’s tough - but I think you can work it out
I was born at inch garvie down Albert Avenue opposite the Lido hull (bit of useless info for yer)...
'Ull' east yorkshire.
There’s a Lido in ULL?!!!!! No way!!!
Fantastic video... two for one on wonderful cycling youtubers :) and for a bonus for me you rode past the gate to the campsite I live and work on! (7.55)
Paul… no way!!! We rode past and you didn’t offer us a brew?!! Unbelievable!! ☹️🤣
Come & ride the Dartmoor Classic, it'll persuade you what you're missing!
Really????????
Amazing channel Katie, at least you reply to your messages unlike Juliet. Cannot wait to watch the earlier videos you have made. 👍🏽
Thanks so much, really appreciate it. But to be fair to Juliet, she has 4 kids and I have none so I have more time 🙂
I’m with you Katie, it pales in comparison to Yorkshire, Gods own Country. Far too many slow rampy climbs down that way.
We are SPOILT!!!!
A ride from Barnstaple around the North Devon coast and Exmoor would have been a much nicer ride, with hills 😁. Maybe something for you in the future 👍
Oooh well… have a watch of tomorrow’s vid :)
Is that even a serious question? YORKSHIRE every time, oh yeah.
Heheheeheh yeaaaaaaahhhhhhh we know it!!!
Two are always better than one😊
2 minutes in and I'm laughing, great to see my two favourite cyclists together, can't wait to watch the rest of your adventures, more please 😊
Awww hahahah thanks so glad you enjoyed it
Can't wait to see you both in the Dales and Calderfornia. They will be great videos and you both will be fab advocates for those places.
Yesssss Phil!!!! We need Juliet to see what we have on offer up here it’s just legit so so gooooood
Good to see you down south!!
It was nice to see you two back out on your bikes good video stay safe and stay healthy one life enjoy blessed be
Thanks Francis, you too 🙂🙂
It would have made a nice twist at the end if the train had been cancelled and you had to cycle all the way back 😂
Hahaha stopppp it! There were train issues though… 🙈🙊
Flamin June Weather fail.. And you wonder why this Yorkshireman fled to Australia.
Hahahaha where are you in Aus??? Love the place
@@KatieKookaburra In Sydney, full on Winter now 17c and a brisk southerly blowing. So a 3 base layer and long sleeve jersey today. For this soft Yorkshireman.
I almost shat when you patted your tire! 😂
😇😇
Dropped a sandwich! Great start ...
🫣😩🤣
Moooorning
Do you not get a sore bottom doing all this cycling
Nahhh good shorts and saddle 🍑
‘Not the speed, the faff…’. Hahahaha!!!!!
And then... SEALANT!! hahah
I would say Yorkshire over Devon, as the sunken hedged lanes are too claustrophobic for for my liking, if I had to choose that is. Good to see the two of you together on the road again, that way we get two videos with a slightly different slant on each. Great videos as usual, keep them coming. ATB Big Dave Scotland
Yasssss David that’s what I said… like it’s a bit claustrophobic. Must be us just liking those big open views!!
You just can't beat them, but both areas are beautiful in their own ways. 😁
I'm going on a family holiday in the region in a few weeks. You have dampened my expectations. lol
The region is lovely!!! But 135km was a lot in hedges. Where are you heading? Devon is amazing and you will love it.. if you like hedges 🙃 nah the beaches lush… people do chilled and views so pretty!
It’s River Dart Country Park. The kids should love it. I’ve got my CX bike for an early cheeky morning out a few times.
Whats that app you're using with the directions to climbs?
It’s Top 100 Climbs app - you have to pay for it but it’s so so good!!
@@KatieKookaburra thanks!
Hi Kate, what 25mm tyres do you use to be able to do the gravel and you still roll quickly on the road.
It wasn’t mega rough gravel - just a bit. I use Michelin Power Cup tyres, 25mm
@@KatieKookaburraThanks
You must visit the Gnome reserve for a surreal experience. But you must wear your hats.
stop... this real????
Yep, look it up it’s unbelievable
Funny seeing my local area on here. I do agree it is a bit samey but when it's your local you gotta like it!
Oooh yeah it’s lovely but… HEDGES all over. Give me some BIGGGGG VIEWSSS!!!
Why did you say to not ride tubeless? Isn't the point that you don't get flats?
I personally am not a big fan… I find it works great so much of the time but it’s just a tad messy when it goes wrong
@@KatieKookaburra Wait until you have to swap tubes in the muck or blinding heat! I did three swaps on a ride once. Goat heads on the road way.
This looks like a lot of fun.
So. Much. Fun. (If you like hedges)
😂
Katie, do the Calder Divide! 😮
Off road… I think not! Haha
@@KatieKookaburra ❤️❤️❤️
Wall to wall bushes not the only meh, spoiling the views down there in Devon Katie.
Watch out for the tap water, can degrease a drive train in seconds ! :) Best stick to the Orangina and Cokes, unless you want the fox trots ! 🦊
☀️
🐿🐿
Hahaha someone else said this to me about the water. What’s going on with it?
Hahaha you monkey!!
Heard some Cow poo found it's way into the supply somewhere Katie 🐄
Maybe Garmin do a H20 filter device ?
Have fun with J, need the smiles amongst all the death, doom, gloom & destruction !
Love ya x
SWW heavily chlorinate the water and it tastes horrible. Thankfully we have a bore hole in our garden and the water is delightful, natural and unmetered!
Sounds like you've the ideal solution Ian. State of the water in many places "questionable".
Both drinking & waterways !
This year's annual boat race on the Thames, so many "bits & objects" bobbing about in the water, boat crews told NOT to dip their Cox in it, on victory ! :)
Need water Nationalised, taken away from shareholders !
I warned Juliet about white bar during her bike build video - it's always a bad idea, you know, here in the real world
Why though?
It looks good when it’s fresssssh!
@@Buckblacket ... because it only stays white for ~20 minutes, then it's just dingy "off-white" (or stained) for the rest of its useful life
@malcontent510 oh I see. Yes that makes sense.
@@KatieKookaburra KB - in my unofficial yet "scientific-ish" word association quiz, when asked about _white bar tape_ the two most common replies were "delusion" & "regret"
Poor Juliet. I would have been pissed off with you moaning about the ride as much as you did. I am from Yorkshire and live and ride there and comparing the two counties is ridiculous. Im surprised you didnt know what Dartmoor area was like. If had been Juliet i would have rode off and left you behind. It seemed relentless. Hope you can take this criticism. You are a northerner after all
Hahaha she put up with my moans well didn’t she?! Oooh but wait for next few vids 😍😍😍 and when Juliet comes up here she will see what I’m talking about
@@KatieKookaburralooking forward to it. As you know shes not a fan of hills like you are so the shoe might be on the other foot when shes on her 10th hill. You might need to put your ear plugs in! Always great entertainment when you two get together. Enjoy!🚴♂️
Plenty of open views on tops of Dartmoor and Exmoor, love the Tarka Trail. No problem riding that amount of Gravel on my Brompton! Tubes and rim brakes every time but I don't have a choice. All area of UK are good but then I am from neighbouring Zummerset!
Katie You can't get sea views and Moor view's in the same ride up North, plus it's always COLD up there DEVON Also come and do The Dartmoor Devil Audax late October to see hills.!!!
