Completely agree 😆 bikes are overpriced gimmicky fashion statement nonsense nowadays. As lance says. "It's its not about the bike" you are going to win if your performance is up to scratch and the bike functions and is reliable. I ride a £900 second hand scott addict with 105. It's all I will ever need.

8k bikes weigh 8,5kg - How the tables have turned. The new 5k-20k bikes are the real peasant bikes - can't even reach the UCI weight limit, facebook marketplace bikes of 1000-1500 BUCKS are the REAL bikes now for the hard hitters doing hill reps.

@@GCPerformance18 It might be easier and less expensive to lose weight on your body not your bike. The fat you eat is the fat you wear. CTFU! And it will be easier to squeeze your fat ass between the bikes to get the chain!

I just got my Hyperspace 50MM Disc brake Black Edition for my Trek SL5 last Monday. Also used your discount code (thanks). Brother , I love these wheels. I finally bit the bullet when they came out with the Black Edition. I've put about 200 miles on them already. I was riding my bike through my neighborhood after I first put them on. Some a-hole broke a bunch of glass, which I didn't see and got a flat in the first 500 feet of my ride. Got home fixed the flat and went on my ride. I rode them into 25mph headwinds and crosswinds and I had no problems. Rode home with a 25mph tailwind and I was flying. Doing a solo ride across Florida and back from Clearwater to New Smyrna next week. 200miles is my longest ride, going to try and top that. Because, why the hell not!

@@nateyzf re-reading my comment, I wasn’t very clear. Wasn’t trying g to say heavier than stock. Meant heavier than he could have gotten. My point was he could have saved way more weight. Instead, he went with deep section wheels (and a heavy set at that) just because of the look. If I’m trying to get my bike lighter, I’d DEFINITELY have better options than these wheels. Zipp 303 Firecrest comes to mind, which is 300g lighter (and pretty awesome looking IMO). That’s almost a pound right there.

I swapped out stock wheels for bontrager aeolus 3v, the praxis carbon zayante, now with 46x11-28 for the flat Netherland, roval Terra seatpost and romin carbon saddle. I got more than a kg off the bike and it rides super smoothly with 32 mm tires. I understand the JIZZ of this operation more than anyone else.

And as a third comment I must add - that is a really cool bike. Despite my brambling - I got absolutely nothing wrong to comment about your build. The only thing that I am wining is the choice of components for the price. BUT if you have the money - go ahed. I would do the same. If you don't spare any expense - get a pair of Campagnolo Ultra WTO 45 wheels. They spin for 2+ hours. Sky is the limit with the right budget.

And no, weight is not an "irrelevant" metric. Overrated, especially for the average cyclist? Yes. But certainly not irrelevant. Hes obivously really good at the sport and a great rider, so at the end of the day it is his call...... I hate the trend and also feel like he is loosing speed, but what people will say is, the 32 tire is wider and taller tire, so when he gets to top end speed the tire will expand like from momentum and get taller so it will be a bigger revolution and maintain and carry top end speed..... also more comfort... but fuck do I know, he rides with pros, I change flat tires on beach cruisers

@@GCPerformance18 Sucks how Spesh prices their bikes… often making “upgrades” cost prohibitive. I built a (frame up) S-Works SL6 a couple years ago, and it basically ran as much as a stock S-Works build. Only savings was the frame.. on sale at $3,800 instead of $4,800. If I installed Rapides and SRAM Red like I want to, on the Allez sprint, I’d be in the SL7 expert range, same R470 hoops… but CARBON frame. Wish there was a break on component builds, and upgrades. Anyways, I do have my eye on some Hunts.. but my bike was built by a moron at Spesh. Their direct to consumer offer is a joke. Literally had to take a brand new bike in for a tune up, before I could ride it. Now the BB is creaking like a 20yr old press fit… might not have this bike too much longer, as I have requested a return… or a new bike.

Interesting series, still waiting to hear from my local Spec dealer on what the potential SL7 builds for 2023 will be to order from but 2022 didn't offer an Expert in Canada so if its the same for 2023, would be choosing between a Comp like this and upgrading wheels and adding a power meter or going for the Pro which already comes with aero wheels and a power meter. Seems like upgrading the wheels and to a Red power meter crank on the comp still is about $1200 CAD cheaper, consider upgrading the bars and saddle, you are less than $1000, consider the value of the derailleurs, shifters and its pretty close but with upgrading the Comp you would end up with a training wheel set... May just decide based on colours.
