do it! im 29 and just started a few days ago. ordered a sick alien workshop deck with some indy trucks and bones wheels and bearings. came in the mail 2 days ago. i cant land an ollie properly but its tonnes of fun and my son loves it too. you're never too old to start! go get a board!
Ill definitely be ordering this. I just started skating again after a 15 year hiatus, and because I'm an adult now I have adult sized bills so paying 60-100 bucks every couple months for a pair of skate shoes just isn't in the budget. So just because of that I'll be ordering this with my first braille complete board in the near future. Thanks for bringing this to the light guys!
I do like the testing to see how abrasive they are on the shoes and how quickly they damage them. However, I feel like while in a game of skate or just in general, not landing a trick makes it not count, but when testing the abrasiveness of the grip and the damage on the shoes I think you should count it whether they land it or not because the thing doing the damage is the drag and flick on the griptape, not the landing of the trick. So if you do 50 kickflips and you're 50 for 50 without missing and then someone else does 50 but they have to do 75 or 100 due to not landing them all, then the results are kinda invalidated because they did more of the same damaging motions. Still love these videos though, just food for thought for future videos and testing :).
My Braille waterborne collaboration surfskates have turned out to be on another level, when it comes to the surfskate. For us surf skaters, we like the non-abrasive griptape, because it allows us to surfskate barefoot.
my main thought throughout this was "how is the wear on the griptape itself." Tbh, it was looking a little beat up towards the end. Interesting approach, though!
When the older dude asked him to kickflip on his board, this man didn't know he was asking the person with the most experience in the world in kickflipping on non standard boards.
Maaan this video is exactly why i love skateboarding. the bond and connection people make are awesome! i still hang out and talk with the same people i skated with back in the 90s. love it
You really should make a test bench, where you oscillate the shoe with a consistent weight application a specific number of times at a specific controlled pressure on the same shoe.
A man any tips I can use on my Ollie’s I can pop and have the notion of sliding but I can’t slide and I’m trying todo it and having no hesitation but still can’t do it thanks homie
Velcro is a name brand, but the product is called hook and loop. The grip tape is obviously a smaller version. But is it hook, loop or both? Maybe a squiggle?
This is what those fine hairs do. These tiny tufts of hair get so close to the contours in walls and ceilings that electrons from gecko hair molecules and those from the wall molecules interact with each other, creating an electromagnetic attraction...does this grip tape create that effect?
Recently, I bought the new Vans Zion Wright Zahba shoes. I want those shoes to last me as long as possible so I ordered a sheet of gecko grip from the braille website. Can't wait to try it out!!!!
@rSuarrez The shoes lasted 9 months. I used 2 different decks, both with gecko grip during those 9 months. The grip itself is somewhere between slippery and grippy. It's grippy enough to where it's usable. The somewhat slipperyness kind of makes it easier to slide your foot up for ollies. At first, very tiny pieces of the velcro material will shed off and can go all over your hands. But after about 2-3 days, it stops. I think the grip overall was really cool although I don't use it anymore.
This might be great for my electric board. Unfortunately there's really no other way to hold it but to mall grab (ik ik) cause it's so heavy. So the grip always wears holes in all my pants.
I do a lot of footplants, fingerflips, cave mans, handflips etc. After a days skate the fingerprint reader on my phone stops recognising my thumb. This could be the fix.
Am I the only one who thinks they should count every kick flip landing it or not because the question/challenge is 100 kick flips the motion of the kick on the grip tape so it doesn't need to be landed like say you do 300 kick flips but only land 50 you've done 300 but only count 50 idk tho just a question I've had for awhile
Astounding demonstration of kickflip endurance. All these athletes will be sore tomorrow. It does seem sticky enough, and way less abrasion. Though, the boards used were significantly different. That tiny popsicle with the geko tape on... of course that's easier. Way ligher and built for the job. Swap boards and do the test again. ;-)
I do understand uzis point in not wanting that micro stuff on his hands. is it safe? I mean… there are carbon fiber reinforced boards that dust that stuff around when they break. hows the gecko tape when you intentionally rub against it all the time?
For a fair assessment you need to at least take into account the fails as the contact on the board is the same and if you have more fails than the other person it's not an equal test
Dude if it's leaving white marks on the grip after one kickflip then it's really abrasive, it's shaving off a tiny bit of the white from your shoe. I'd be curious to try it but I'm not buying it not being abrasive when I can see it ripping paint off like that.
Looks like its inbetween normal grip and non-abrasive. It's clearly abrasive just perhaps less abrasive than normal grip. If it was non-abrasive then no white would be showing on the grip.
@Braille Did you know that the world record for the most amount of kick flips in 1 minute is 24. With all that practice you should be able to beat that. 😀👍
I love these test videos, but if you are truly testing to see the difference, you need to remove as many variables from the equation as possible. So, if you are testing wear, you should count any attempt that adds to the wear of the shoe regardless of whether trick is landed successfully. Otherwise, you'll end up discarding results that directly realted to test you are performing. So, if you land 50 of 60 attempts and the next guy lands 40 of 100, your test will be invalid because one could say the one with more wear was due to it performing more attempts. Also, you all should have your editor add a counter for the viewers.
In every video where they "test a product", there is quite literally no quality assurance. They really need someone on the crew who has some understanding of scientific method. These videos are fun but it would be quite a bit more entertaining if they ever captured real results in the process of making cool content.
yes they have a non abrasive grip, but it is rubber and very obviously rubber. This stuff is crazy and feels almost like regular grip tape. No shade on DKL though, we love their product.
So... If you don't land it, it doesn't count? That means you're not comparing even conditions. Each flick is an instance of wear, it shouldn't matter if you land it or not.
Mad respect to that old school shredder. I wanna skate with that guy.
He was rad
He got that perfect middle aged shred
F
I love him! Get him to the braillehouse for a full vid! I wanna hear some old school stories
Love the guest star appearance. Always so charismatic to meet experienced skaters.
I love how you guys interact with people at the park really just making peoples days better
Solid example of why I subscribe to this channel
lol this man seriously did a damage report after 1 kickflip on non-abrasive griptape... never stop being awesome Aaron
I’m 35 years old and have never skated a day in my life, but after watching a bunch of your videos I am seriously thinking about trying to start
Start skating. Best thing to do after 30

Awesome! Thank you!

I just got my first braille board and I love it!!! My friend tried it and ordered one the next day 💯

Yo braille thanks for all the vids they make my day better
Happy to help
Loved this video, felt a bit like the old school fremont vids!
Kudos to the man at the end nearing on a half-century of skating, absolute legend!
When the older dude asked him to kickflip on his board, this man didn't know he was asking the person with the most experience in the world in kickflipping on non standard boards.
It almost sounds like it deadens the pop of the board .why don’t skate shoe makers make Ollie pads on shoes anymore , Vision Street Wear had them .
Also Airwalk.
Etnies still make some.
Maaan this video is exactly why i love skateboarding. the bond and connection people make are awesome! i still hang out and talk with the same people i skated with back in the 90s. love it
Couldn't agree more!
I'm using this stuff on the top 2 inches of my nose so I don't get grip thumb. Works perfectly!!
U guys just make me want to go skate love you guys
Thanks so much!
Hey Braille, I was wondering if there would be a way for you to get your skat products into Australian skate shops such as beyond skate. :)
Wow someone who has been riding as long as me Awsome keep it up. Hi from Iowa
It’s funny to see that’s your kickflips get better in every test❤
Does the non abrasive grip weigh more than traditional grip?
Good question, this version is pretty similar, the DKL rubber grip is a bit heavier
4:41ish UFO above your head?
👀
We now need a comparison of this grip to the dkl non abrasive grip
yea

Yeah geckos can stick to any surface apart from teflon. Pretty cool
That dude in the Led Zeppelin shirt stole the show.
I was dying when he had a moment with the board.
The old skool ripper needs to be on the team 🤙
when will it be available to try it out in Europe? :)
It’s also the way you flick off that determines where the wear will come in
i bought some of the black out shoes and they are sooooo skinny in the toe section are the braille shoes this skinny or just those?

Do they deliver worldwide mr braille?
I just seen an ad last week for some kind of rubber grip tape, I'd love to see your guys reaction to that

haha yes
Wait, I could be removing my fingerprints with griptape? 😈
How does this compare to DKL gen 7? That is what I usually run and I really like it.
Im not sure you would have to try it
Also, to do the test properly, you need a similar size and weight person, and any flip should count (even missed).
why 2 screws and not 4 ?
It’s a 90s thing, Aaron is and OG
Got to go back a little further than the 90s to be OG
Can you guys do some street skating videos aswell?
So cool to see do many new griptape that I never thought could exist 👍
Man! O.G. dude was awesome!
Aaron needs to do tests like this, but heel flips.
Bro you gotta send that old school guy a box! 10 sheets Gecko!
Totally
This one is actually abrasive. The rubber grip one (DKL, etc) is the real non abrasive, the wear will only be on the rubber grip instead of the shoe
seeing the title I totally thought non abrasive. Awesome video guys
I hope you got contact details for old school, I'd love to see him in more videos.
Hoping that you have your control and do equivalent test---same shoe, same number of flips, compare damage.

DKL grip tape keeps coming out with updated versions every so often too
Why would you not count lands it has nothing to do with the shoes hitting the grip tape, now it’s not as accurate bc Aaron did way less kickflips
It looks like griptape will skating in a different skate review and testing the durability of a great technology product.
Astounding demonstration of kickflip endurance.

Yes its safe
They have been making grip for a long time in europe and it works well.
@@brailleskateboardingwho produces this tape?
For a fair assessment you need to at least take into account the fails as the contact on the board is the same and if you have more fails than the other person it's not an equal test
well im not sure about the non-abrasive part. to me it seems like they are saying water isnt wet.
Shout out to them OGs just spending a day at the park. I hope thats me when i get up there
So my guess is, to keep the griptape clean and skate in a clean indoor skatepark.
Feels like everyone is out from the braille team , we need to have a video with everyone in it

I think they might be redesigning the braille skatepark which is why they have been at Freemont for the past couple weeks
Sadly no, we had some Summer Camps and we had to film outside of the warehouse. One day we will refresh the skate park!
@@brailleskateboarding I suggest doing a setup like the woodward progression park.
Looks like its inbetween normal grip and non-abrasive. It's clearly abrasive just perhaps less abrasive than normal grip. If it was non-abrasive then no white would be showing on the grip.

Wow he has been skating for 48 yrs, He started the year after I was born. I started 11 yrs. after he did.
Big problem with DKL is skatin in street, that’s way to slippy
Here's the real question. Will anyone on braille team now adopt this grip tape for their daily steet/park deck?
Didn't show or explain how a massive chunk fell off day 1... Sorta ruins the lasting effect of the shoes if you need to regrip super often
I can smell Aaron’s salesmans breath from here with this grip tape…..
you should compare DKL non-abrasive to this one with shoe wear, grip wear and its' grippiness
Yes they should. I've used dkl for about 4 or 5 years, I'd love to know if this is a better replacement.
