As a quick example of how iconic Bad Brains are: The singer (known as "H.R.") is actually the person that first coined the term "MOSH PIT". Though originally known as a "MASH PIT", his Jamaican accent made "mash" sound like "mosh"... the name stuck and history was made. -Doc

The Bad Brains were more than just a punk band - they were a sea change in punk rock. Tons and tons of punk bands say the Bad Brains were a massive influence. Heck Ian MacKay from Minor Threat and all the other DC bands all site them.

My favorite hardcore punk band of all time. Friend of mine bought a cassette back in the early 80s, didn't like it, and gave it to me. I played it so much the print disappeared and then my recorder finally ate it. I listened to them ALOT for about 10 straight years.

The Beastie Boys worshipped this band. They took the B and B in their names to mimic the B’s in the Bad Brains. When they were elected to the Rock N Roll Hall of fame Ad rock shouts out the Bad Brains first. I can express how much this band means to our generation indie/punk/hardcore fans. It’s a shame people don’t know.

That really does look like Ad-Rock. I had heard that a couple of the Beastie Boys members actually met at an early Bad Brains show. (Though I'm not too knowledgeable on them so I don't know how much truth there is to that.) Though I do believe Beastie Boys actually opened for Bad Brains a couple times at CBGBs, though I don't know if that clip was from one of those shows. -Dr. Smith

I can honestly say that I've met the singer HR and can vouch that he's a very nice and polite person; he performed a solo reggae set with the bassist from Sublime (yeah, THAT Sublime) at a local venue here last year for like $10 and even though he's much older than he was in this clip, he still had an intense energy radiating from him going through the music that you could feel, not just hear, and from what I hear of talking to people who saw them in the early 80's, it seems that while the body has grown weaker over time, the spirit is still the same from back then.

I never saw them in DC back in the day. I had their albums going back to 1981. First album and “Rock for Light”. These guys went to NYC in the early 80s. “Banned in DC “ was a song talking about the real thing. They had to move away. …They were/are awesome musicians!

If you're open to other kind, listen to god of love, rise, soulcraft, re-ignition, I and I survive, give thanks and praises. Right brigade has different element to punk as well.

Ignorance from 2022. Nobody cared about video or being recorded back then. You are watching the birth of HARDCORE PUNK and who was there? Ian MacKay, Henry Rollins, and Joey Ramone. Ian and Henry took it and ran. Another genre of music introduced by black musicians to the world stage. But you laugh at who gets on stage. I wish I could have been in that crowd. What bands were you on stage with? Nonbands, that's who. Music, back in the olden days, was different and the level of inclusiveness was far greater. Now we get 10 foot walls and security everywhere. We saw Bush's opening North America concert this year. I'm not a fan, but the wife is. We were right up front and the wife got to stroke Gavin multiple times. It reminded me of the old days when you were there. However, I watched the whole band and noticed all the problems they were having and how the roadies where running in circles. Nobody else noticed because they had their phones up and watching one person ON THE PHONE....he was 20 feet away and everyone was looking at their phone. The day the music died. Bye Bye Miss American Pie.
