In the United States alone, over $8 Billion is spent on high-fashion footwear and in this video Consultant Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Surgeon, Mr Andrew Goldberg, from the Wellington Hospital in London, explores whether high heels can cause bunions. #thebarebones
A quarter of adults have bunions or bumps on the side of their feet. New scientific research using a standing CT scan has allowed scientists to see how the foot looks and behaves in a functional standing position inside shoes such as high heels. In this video you will see the scans of foot inside a high heel and how the weight of the body is pushed onto two pea shaped bones in the foot called the sesamoids. Mr Goldberg will explain whether high heels cause hallux valgus or bunions.
