- NBC’s workplace comedy Superstore returns from hiatus tonight to wrap up its fourth season. In honor of its return, production designer Michael Gallenberg and assistant art director Elliot LaPlante invited us to the Cloud 9 Superstore soundstage, where they shoot the majority of the show-and showed how they built it from the ground up.

this is just impressive as hell. shows like the office only had to build a small space and 2 or 3 locations, these guys built a whole dang store

3:10 The set crew really pulled a Marcus LOL they straight up put a life size picture of another place in the store to deceive like when Marcus put that picture in the parking lot to hide the ice pops
or that scene where the woman walks down the aisle with her shopping cart and walks straight into a picture of it

Thanks so much to everybody who made Superstore. I found it by accident but then it became a half hour of laughter that I always knew I could look forward to every week. Superstore helped me recognize the value in the people around me. No matter how crappy the week might have been it was there. It's amazing how much work so many people did to bring me a half hour of joy once a week. Thank you again. I miss you and, embarrassing as it may be, I love you all.

I've been wondering about this set for a while now, I've always really liked set and prop stuff in movies, plays, TV shows, and this always seemed like a lot of detail, I wondered if they were filming on location in like, a transformed store. Cool to finally know what it actually is!
this was so interesting, as a film maker I was honestly baffled at how they made that set. huge props (no pun intended) to the art team

I love this how. Watched it 4 x in a row from season 1 to 5. I literally went to the pilot episode right after the last season of episode 5. Oh this doesnt even count my first time watching it as it airs.

I miss this show so much! Very underrated! Amazing to see how much work has been put into this, I always assumed it was shot in an actual live store!
The tornado was a great opportunity to work out the kinks in the set and have it explained in the show.

Super cool video. I've always been fascinated with how sets are made and planned and all.
Bravo !!! You two have done an excellent job. Me and my son have just watched every episode. The characters are loveable and we always see who can find Brett and Sarah first in the background of every episode. Brett is like a Alfred Hitchcock appearing in every episode.

Judging by your name I'd assume you're a male, if you're also white and hetero, you live in a world filled with privilege catered to you. When you're brought up to not rock the boat, that if you're a woman and assertive you're called a bitch but an assertive man is the man, etc, then you'll see confidence and speaking up isn't just a matter of do it. In this particular case, I'm not sure who has what title (missed that if they mentioned it) which would also come into play. And who worked on what.

Thanks for the video guys. I went to visit the set this summer when i spent a few days in L.A. Of course, the farthest i cld get was literally up to the fence since nbc hasnt been running tours.:/ it was amazing to see that the set was for real! Lol i became a different human being as soon as all the trailers and the Cloud9 appeared. I want be a tv/film writer one day! This was so cool.

Actually, if you go during the summer on a weekday morning/afternoon - u might get to see slightly more activity outside (still not much though). My brain might have just been playing games but i swear i saw America and Colton driving out for a lunch break or something lol. It's very, very close to warner bros. studios, so if you plan on going there, it's right on the way.
They had this silver suv parked in a small clearing made especially so that parking lot would look *not* like it was completely conjested w trailers infront of the store. thinking it was amy's car. maybe that was when they were shooting the scene when Amy tried to hide that Jonah was carpooling w her? 🤓
I was in L.A. pre-COVID and took the Universal tour but the show was not taping. The tram operator told me how America and other cast and crew would sometimes surprise the trams and give out trinkets. I would literally die to be on the set of this show!

He's the head of the Art department. She is the assistant to the person who dresses the sets. They have two very different jobs. That's why they talked about different things.

I always wondered about product placement. Most shows go out of their way to make fake brands that look like real ones. I’m curious what deals, if any, they had with real brands.

i got covid, discoved this series on Netflix and watched the entire series season 1 to season 6 in just 10 days home quarantine
Much like in a real retail store, Ole Smoky Moonshine cheats their "we're not trying to make a commercial" policy using endcaps and mid-aisle displays. I feel like I saw that brand featured more prominently in past seasons than any other.

Sounds strange but when you work on a set, you watch the movie differently. You got those memories like where you kept your coffee n that afternoon.
The people who go to the movies or watch these at home see the “movie”.
I remember The Fast and Furious set. Where the cars were parking I remember the drivers (nope, the actors did not drive those cars). I remember having a great chat with Rick Yune, where the cameras were, etc. When I watch the movie these things come back.
I know the locations the spots, the streets and in real life those streets are in different parts of the city and if you know that things don’t make sense to you.
I think I could navigate my way through Cloud9 easier than my local Walmart... I can’t believe this wasn’t actually filmed in superstore

The key hint is the checkout area is so darn small. Only a couple of lines when in reality big box store have 20 plus registers. The pilot vs the other episode, you can spot real differences!
And then it’s moments like this where I remember that Spielberg made his own JFK airport to film “the terminal.”
