  • In 1905, then Viceroy of India Lord Curzon announced the decision to partition Bengal. His unspoken aim was to divide and rule. In a well-planned move, Bengal was partitioned along religious lines.

Those two songs made me in tears. Rabindranath Tagore and Kazi Nazrul Islam - heart and soul of Bengali poetry whose writings ignited the motivation for billions of people❤️🙏. There are many names whom we must pay equal tribute. Swami Vivekananda, Rishi Aurobindo, Bankim Chandra Chattopadhay were prominent among them 🙏. If you want to know the socio-religious-political scenario of Bengal that time you may go through the novels of Sarat Chandra Chattopadhay ❤️. "PATHER DABI" written by Sarat Chandra Chattopadhay, was of huge moral sense.Jai Hind Bande Mataram ❤️..

Just to let all know ( i believe Bengali who'd accept the truth)
The east bengal or today’s Bangladesh was so rich in pre nd on mughal period that the world famous travellers came to witness the prosperity of east bengal. It was world's 5 th richest region in pre mughal period. Go check here
    en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_Bengal
Nd the capital was Sonargaon (beside Dhaka)
    Then Dhaka..
They used world famous moslin cloth which was very luxurious. Later capital was tranfered to murshidabad another muslim region. They contributed 12% gdp of mughal nd mughal became world's 2nd richest empire at that time.
Nd there was no capital or big or even small west bengal before british. But how on british tym these ppl got so prosperity nd eastern ppl of Assam, Modern BD became so poor?? 🙄.
It's obvious that a region which was so rich nd mentioned in greek, chinese, french literature before 1600s can become so poor???.
    Learn the true history.
If your leaders make u rich sucking other's blood would u still praise them??

People of West Bengal things that the partion of Bengal in 1905, was one of the seeds of Devide and Rule policy. They strongly beleive that Muslims were trapped by the British.
It was a fact that eastern Bengal was underdeveloped. The partion of Bengal was economically sound idea, but it is also a fact that British did it with "devide and rule" intention.
In 1912 If East Bengal was not reunited on the demad of hidu majority then East Bengal would have never supported creation of Pakistan.
On undevided India Bengal and Sindh was the only provinces where Muslim league was fully in power, in Panjab it was coalition govt.
Need to highlight that "Muslim League" was created in 1906 in Dhaka after the reunion of Bengal demand raised by Hindu Mejority which was projected as Muslim deprivations.
The creation of Pakistan was popular demand of Bengal not in the western provinces (Currently Pakistan).
If Hindus did not opposed that partition of 1905, then East Bengal would have developed and Muslims would have never asked separate country, or support Jinnah.
In my view it was the Hindus who were entrapped in to "devide and rule" by British.

The people of East Bengal was happy with the partition because they were being exploited by the Zamindars (landlords) from the west who were majority Hindus (Also, including Rabindranath Tagore). The people of he East thought it to be a good move because now the lesser developed part of East would get more attention and thr ancient city of Dhaka would regain its former glory. However, the people from the West (mainly the zamindars who were to lose control of vast amounts of land) were outraged and schemed up this Bengal nationalism. As a compemsation to the reunification of Bengal, East Bengal was promised a full fledged university (the University of Dhaka). Which people like Rabindranath were against.
Peoole of the East would have benefitted greatly if the division was kept.

Let me articulate the Bengali Muslim view. The Bengali Muslims were IN FAVOUR OF THE PARTITION. Because they knew partition would improve their lot. The Calcutta based Hindu landlords and elite opposed it. In Bangladesh we DO NOT USE THE TERM Reunited, we use the term NIXED, PARTITION OF BENGAL WAS NIXED. Time has proven that the economic engine of Bengal was the Eastern part. The GDP of Bangladesh is much higher than West Bengal. Whoever loses East Bengal, loses out. First it was the Bengali Hindus then it was the Pakistanis.

    • @newaulk
      @newaulk 3 года назад +1

@Nabil Ibrahim Looking back, I personally feel it was the best thing to happen to us. We would be worse off in India, like Indian Muslims are today. We would have been worse off with Pakistan, looking at where Pakistan is today. The question is would we be better off had the 3rd option come to fruition? Would Bengal as a separate, independent nation be better off than 2 divided parts? Looking at it from rose-tinted glasses, the answer would have been yes. But what trouble would the extremists on both sides create? Would they conspire to break up the Bengal nation and add them to India and Pakistan? Yes they would. Would the government of Bengal survive such plots? Difficult to say. We might have ended up with an independent Bangladesh anyway, it seems.

Was India 1 Nation before Britishers came and ruled over Us ?
Its true every Kingdom that was present in present day India wanted to rule over other Kingdoms and tried to bring it under one umbrella . That umbrella could have been Mughals , Marathas , Rajputs , Sultanates etc .
But the concept of Democracy and Secularism came much later to our Sub Continent during the last phases of British rule .
Today every State of India has a unique identity and a say in decision making of Country's policy .
THE DIVIDE AND RULE CONCEPT can only take birth when there are already prevalent trust issues and other core issues among different groups . We were already divided even before the Britishers tried . They just fueled it further .
We should also remember the social evils which prevailed in our lands before British rule .
Sati pratha , untouchability , landlord monopoly etc .
There was discontent , mistrust among various groups even before foreign rule .

    • @aakashsahani2991
      @aakashsahani2991 4 года назад +3

That's certainly true but every single communal issue in India that eats the country's peace today is rooted to this one British-Raj policy of dividing Hindus and Muslims.
Name it, Kashmir, Pakistan, Mob-Lynching, Hindu nationalism, anti-immigration, etc, all starts from there.
Stating issues of pre-industrial, pre-modern issues of a country can seem to be effective reminding wrongs done by the country in the past but when billions of people suffer for decades due to one mordern era act by unknown outsiders with no relation to those people, then you are ought to see the problem there.

You have points from a broader perspective. This video was about Bengal and until that partition, there was no disconnect between Bengali speaking people. Even today, two Bengali speaking individuals from different countries will find them in a closer relationship than a Bengali with another person from other parts of India (like Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Gujrat or Kashmir etc). That's because of the language, culture and genetic ties between them. Until British Raj Bengal had its own identity. They fought against other kingdoms which are part of current day India like Marathis, for example. In Bengal kids use to read poem indicating Marathi dakus who will come and loot stuff. Bengal was the heart of British raj and they knew if they can control Bengal other areas will follow through. But truth is British Raj didn't divide and rule for the benefit of people in Bengal or greater India. Look around the world, they did it everywhere. Even today, if countries try to reunite or correct the wrongfully done divisions, they will interfere along with their allies. Because that's how they can keep these countries under control.

The Muslim community under Nawab Salimulla of Dacca did support the Partition. The British successfully convinced the East Bengalis that such a Partition will be in their own interest. To say Muslims mourned the patriot will not be entirely correct. Although there were leaders like Syed Raza who was spreading the swadeshi movement in Delhi Rawalpindi etc. But muslims in general did not participate.

    2. In 1854, Lord Dalhousie also complained about administrative problems due to vast area and population of Bengal.
    3. In 1866, investigation report of Famine of Orissa also suggested re-demarcation of Bengal.
    4. In 1874, Sir George Campbell submitted report that one man alone cannot supervise the affairs of province alone.
Second of All any person with common sense can under stand that partition of Bengal was fruitful for social-Economic development of Muslims of East wing as they were deprived before. why would they support swadeshi Movement against partition.

Disappointed by this , it did not acknowledge that the Muslims view , they were delighted by this partition . Since bengal was hindu majority they had been oppressed by the British , this allowed them to prosper and escape from Hindu rule . WHY DONT YOU ACKNOWLEDGE THAT ? the hindu muslims both had different clashing views to protect and promote their own interests . Hindus became violent protests held like swadeshi movement even attempts of assasination were carried on lord minto . This finally led to its reversal in 1911 . This is evidence that people manipulate and distort the real true history to harmonize themselves and show their communities as victims .The Indians oppressed and denied the Muslims their rights , like why were they so keen on protesting because it is obvious that they did not wanted the muslims to advance in economic matters . The Hinuds act as the victims and peace makers when they truly oppressed and denied muslims their rights when they had no fucking right to do so . The british colonized Africa and subcontinet , committed worst crimes in these regions and today talk about the so called human rights and save black lives , they fucking started discrimination against black people and viewed them as servants . Whereas Muslims in the Mughal empire time for eg were dominated and Aurangzeb destroyed temples and took austere measures . History proves how everyone tries to harmonize themselves and prove themselves as peacemakers , it shows how manipulated this world is and most of all history proves THAT NO ONE EVER TRULY LEARNS .....

British did do divide & rule but Lord Curzon was better than other Vice Roys. He indeed wanted uniform development across Bengal as it was too large to manage (which every country does today with growth in population, complexity). When this was cancelled in 1911, Britishers were too unhappy with it and shifted capital from Calcutta to Delhi and downfall started for entire Bengal. British PM Sir Clemen Attlee wanted to make undivided Bengal an Independent country in 1947 together with India and Pakistan. But Congress, League rivalry didn't allow it to happen. Sarat Chandra Bose and Hussein Shaheed Shohrawardy's desparate attempt to keep undivided Bengal also went in vain

Like your desh prem. But think about having the undivided country with all Bengali speaking people from Bengal, Assam, Tripura. We know we are still one people when we put aside our religion and nationality. It is more evident when you live abroad. Just listening someone speak Bengali instantly create a connection. Some of my best friends are from West Bengal and Assam. And only thing that helped us to be close friends is our language and our culture. Not suggesting anything against sovereignty of both countries just a wishful thinking what it would have been if we could stop division. We can help each other even living with different nationality.

An independent United Bengal Nation would be the best country in South East Asia, Asia, and one of the finest in the world. Unfortunately, many peoples are still eating Brit's divide pill.

Frankly speaking, India never was a single country before the British occupied it. It was composed of more than 600 big and small principality. In reality, the British unified and made India today as it is. Indians may not realize it that it got lots of territories which were not Indian, to begin with - From Sikkim to North East.
Even Bhutan lost some of it territories Coach Bihar to India due to the British annexation of it region.

India wasn't a single country even after British left in 1947.
It was just India, Pakistan and 545 princely states.

Doesn't matter. It wasn't their country to rule or change anything. Today would anyone dare to even interfare in other country's internal affairs? Brits just killed n looted everywhere they went still are suffering to an extent. Don't justify British rule. It was Akbar who actually unified both hindus and Muslims , he brought proper rules and systems to run his dynasty. That's why Akbar is not appreciated much.

@A k257 lol no... He had taken up diplomatic approach to win territories... In a war soldiers die on both sides. But Akbar was mostly peace loving... Admirer of Art, music, science etc... He was the best emperor from Mughal era... Don't talk rubbish read history.

Dont worry bengal will face this situation again very soon.
Bjp already prepared their route for the bengal and they will try to suppressed the bengali muslims then we have to see how the bengali muslims retaliate on it.
    Bengal will fire again.
