- This is my full review of the Asics Gel-Nimbus 25 after 150 miles. I have had the chance to take the nimbus on recovery runs, easy runs, long runs and even some uptempo runs on all different surfaces. Time to decide exactly where it fits into my rotation.

I bought the Triumph 20 off your review Matt AND now I'm totally gonna get the Nimbus too based on this review as well, when I can find it discounted enough!! Actually I had already thought of getting this as a recovery / easy day shoe for winter so your review here totally confirms that idea!! Seems like a good companion to the T20 actually, which I LOVE but I do find it just a bit too firm on certain days when I'm exhausted and feeling beat up. Very looking forward to seeing just how far you take them!! I do LOVE long-wearing shoes!!!
I have the Numbis 25 and wore them a few times for walking. My upper heels on both feet got blisters and started bleeding. The inside of shoe has a hard piece rear by heels. Not enough cushion. 160 dollars down the drain. Might call Asics to return for another model.
I will go to a shoe store and see if the Nimbus 26 are improved
All my other sneakers have thick soft Coushion . Brooks Glycogen 21 , Nike Envicible 3 , ON cloud Surfers ,Hoka Clifton 9 , Bondi 8
Interesting. I ended up logging a little over 600 miles and never had that issue. I might use them on a recovery run this week and see if I notice anything.
@WhatMatterstoMatt Hey Bud Thank You for responding ....
Just an update on the Gel nimbus 25. I just went to my local mall and checked the 25 and the new 26. Both were perfect back of heel had lot of Cuhion . My sneakers are defective. Called Asics and they said fill out warranty form and take pics . Once I get my refund I will purchase the Nimbus 26
I'm at 300KM in my pair, used for easy/recovery runs, tame strides, pure long runs. No signs of wearing out yet. I balance this shoe with my Nike Invincible V2's, but I find the Invincible isn't as versatile as the Nimbus, which is odd considering the ZoomX midsole in the invincible, but I just find it's too squishy. Where the Nimbus midsole has a better balance of firmness/protection.
I was considering to get a pair as my easy day, recovery but having the Novablast 2 being a very versatile one, I think I will hold for now. Still this Nimbus has got very positive feedbacks overall, hope you can keep it running for a good stretch. Maybe for autumn / winter the heat issues with the upper won't bother too much :)
Cheers!
They have been working out really well. Probably will be pretty good as the temperatures start to decrease a bit. I have noticed the upper seems to hold a bit of water so fingers crossed they don't get too heavy on some of those bad weather runs
Matt, this wasn't on your list of plated trainers to try next, but you should consider the Puma Deviate Nitro 2. It was my long run shoe through the winter with its superior grip, and can be used on a variety of surfaces and at a variety of paces. I've seen different colorways on sale for 30% or greater markdown, including my pair which I snagged through Puma for $96 USD.
I ended up picking up the endorphin speed 3. It was such a toss up for me as I had seen the Deviate Nitro 2 on discount like you mentioned. Thought about it for a day and when I went back the color way that they had on sale no longer had one in my size :( Both shoes are probably pretty comparable but you are right about the winter grip on the puma. I have the velocity nitro 2 and the puma grip on the bottom of that is amazing.
Great review! How are they as a walking shoe? Are they too stiff, rockered or unstable?
They are actually an amazing walking shoe for me. They are coming to the end of their life running wise for me. I’m currently at around 550 miles. Full long term review coming soon. But my guess is they will transition into my walking shoe.
I wanted to love the triumph 20, but they gave me crazy heal pain for some reason. Might have to try the Nimbus, though the price seems to be a little silly...
Interesting. Was the Heel pain more of a blister or achilleas? Over here the nimbus and the triumph are the same price. Was a hard decision but wanted to try something new.
My Gel-Nimbus 25 pair has around 300 miles and the shoes looks new, even the outsole is some how looking as new as the day I bought this shoes.
The only complain I got about it is that it is my slowest shoe I ever had. Something about the cushioning that is comfortable as it is it is also like stepping in deep sand every time I run. Because of that, the weight is not the problem, just the cushioning since I can run faster with much heavier shoes like the Adidas SolarGlide 6 and the Nike React X Infinity RN 4.
Hopefully, the Gel-Nimbus 26 will be more versatile and not shoes meant for slow motion running. LOL .
Pretty good take on the shoe. My mileage is about the same in the nimbus and it is holding up incredibly well. I would agree with out of all the shoes I am currently running in it is definitely the slowest.
My Nimbus 25 outsole which not protected by AHAR rubber was punched a hole by small stones
Interesting, I unintentionally (got a little lost :)) yesterday and took them on a trail run that had a few more technical sections than what I would consider "road shoe friendly" When I get home today I might take a peak at the bottom to see how they held up.
@@WhatMatterstoMatt please update the shoe condition after the trail run❤️
Which is better shoes, Triumph or nimbus?
Honestly if I could just have one. I would probably pick the triumph. Nimbus has been a great shoe and is quickly logging a lot of miles for me. I just enjoy running in the Triumph a little more. If I want to pick up the pace, it feels better in the triumph. If I want max protection and just want to cruise along at an easy pace I might reach for the nimbus
Your in Canada ,wear them Sept to May ....
💯 we will see how they do through that Canadian winter 🥶 although if I don’t stop wearing them they may not make it to winter 😂
@@WhatMatterstoMatt I'm in Montreal , I just ordered 2 pairs for fall, winter spring ..the Asics Cumulus 25 gore Tex & Hoka Clifton 9 gore Tex... 😊
It tore my Achilles apart. So heavy and clumsy. It’s not for long distances or speed. Not recommended.
Interesting that you had those issues with the shoe. The Nimbus never bothered my achilles at all. I did find the shoe a bit heavy but since I was using it as a recovery day/easy day shoe it did not really bother me. But with the weight combined with really not having too much energy return I would agree it never really suited me as a long run shoe or speed shoe.
