You should use a long piece of antenna cable to poke through the PVC line. First, I use a piece of antenna cable to clear the PVC line and then vacuum it.
Had to do a drain line fix here today only to watch one getting fixed on my lunch break on you tube as well. Its amazing how much drain lines keeps us busy! This one was pretty epic though.
@5:32, the condensation drain systems are clogged inside of those two 90 degree angle PVC. I had to cut off or remove one 90 degree angle PVC to reduce the clogging for my condensation drain systems.
Using a Vacuum unit to clean out those Drain Pipes is Great! I was Vacuum Repair guy for many years. If the pipe is plugged, don't let the Vacuum run to long, as the Air going though the Vacuum Motor, is what Cools the Motor. So if you would not let the air though, you could run the risk of burning out your Vacuum Motor. And some motors are very pricey!!
A lot of thoase drains here have a gully trap outside,a type of cone shaped thing which the outlet of the pipe points into, the lower part is then fed into storm water drains .I have often had to clear drains which were blocked with black stuff which is simply dust accumulated .
I have posted before on other similar subject videos. Here it is again: There should be a code to prevent using (pressure side) elbows on drains. For a few cents more, a 90 degree, PVC, gray sweeps (same as used in electrical conduits) could be used in A/C pan drain installitions. No more sprinkle piping elbows. One should be able to use a plumbing snake in any drain pipe installation. Not easy to do in existing units, but not hard in new installations. Hope any viewer who will be installing new units sees this recommendation and thinks about it. The person who maybe going to fix this issue later, may be you.
any plummer will tell you that's not a drain 90. those 90s are for pressurized water not drains. if ac men would follow the plumbing code for drains you would not get so many clogs.
Likley the reason why it clogged in the first place was possibly because the drain line does not maintain slope. You'll likely be back again next year for the same issue
Couldn’t you put a 3/4 pvc Union where you put the last coupling off the secondary pan. That way you just unscrew it when you gotta unclog the main drain for next time.
3/4" fernco fittings are a godsend too boss I swear by them.im also very glad you extend the drain to the ground I didn't like the look of that water just running also somewhat noisey.
I used some duct seal to stop an air leak on the side of one of my air handlers. My HVAC tech had never seen or heard of duct seal before. Gave him the half brick I had left so he could show it to some of the other techs. Saw him a few months later, he told me that all their techs now carried a pack of duct seal on their trucks. That shows you that even an HVAC tech can learn something from an old retired electrician.
My condensate drain clogs up twice a year, it is like this long continuous piece of mush. For the first few years, we thought it was a snake that got stuck in the train and turned to mush, but it's mostly like a jello thing.
Ran into this alot, been using hot as can get from the tap water with my shop vac to dislodge alot of em, but still have had many where i have to cut and clear. also i keep watching your video's and really need to make one of those adapters from my vac lol
I feel like you made that 100x harder than it needed to be. Cut the line near the air handler, use a gallo gun, flush with 2+ gallons of water and reconnect with a coupling.
We all have our own ways... so please watch this one and tell me how you could have done something faster and easier ? I would love to learn something new... ruclips.net/video/S9HmVI0PJJM/видео.html
running rock salt or ice down the line with strong vacuum on bottom will dig out the debris.. the sewer main guys got a giant slush puppie truck shoot ice mix down line scrubbs everything out without leaving any media /grit i knew a guy had heavy piano wire as a snake
I hate using nitro on drain lines as well, blown apart fitting in inaccessible areas are always in the back of my mind. I normally leave my vacuum hooked up to the drain while I'm using nitro though, helps keep the area im working in clean and im able to see everything that came out. Cheers Ted!
That is exactly what I did... the camera cut off before I went out... Listen to the video and I even said I could hear the vac from outside after the clog blew loose. I really wish I had used my spare phone like usual... it had to be a cool sight when it blew through. Thanks for watching Cody !!
My experience using pressure caused a little bit of water damage at a Starbucks. I used a corded shop vac to attempt to clear the line to no avail. I used my nitro tank and not only did I shuttle the clog further down the line, I blew out all 4 p trap vents that were tied to the same line. It was like a Vegas water show. For that reason, it's a last resort.
professionalism!, and by the way! My birth year is in I believe your phone number and what I thought in one of your other videos one of your trucks license plate. 64! Lol! The call of God!
Oh, not this one. I got it from your previous videos. I meant a plumbing device stick it into the pipe then it blows up after pressure build up at 11:19. Never seen it and it seems very handy tool. Thanks for your quick respond!

Those 90 deg elbows are installed on purpose as a form of job security. A/C companys know they'll clog sometime down the road and need to be cleared out.

Good work! You always look at the details! I really appreciate that! You all have some serious humidity seeing all that condensate!
Where did you get the pvc adapter for your vacuum cleaner?

On my installations I install a isolating pvc ball valve on the cond. drain line. I mean how much does that add to the job $10 maybe $15 ?
3/4" fernco fittings are a godsend too boss I swear by them.im also very glad you extend the drain to the ground I didn't like the look of that water just running also somewhat noisey.
elbow-fest, way too many 90 ells!, folks need to start using some 45's lol
Always wanted yo ask., why not blow air with a compressed cylinder? Way more power with compressed air..
a trick is using "electrical putty/duct seal" glob over the pipe inside the pan, works great to keep the water stopped temporary :)

Do you ever run a small cable with no head on it into the pipe?

can you give me the links for the items you used to create that pvc vacuum part
Plug the hole in the pan with a rag or play dough and then install the coupling
I’m a Tech for Nissan and watching your videos has really made me want to switch careers. Love this channel
Great !! We need a higher quality of techs in this industry.
@@TedCookHVAC yeah if the tech can find a high quality contractor..
Nice video. Do you ever use fernco couplings? Thanks
I wonder when unions and clean out tees are going to be available in SC ???

HI Ted nice work, where did u get that attachment for the vacuum , seen very good to have and use it,thanks
He said in another video he got it off eBay I thought
ok thank you
It's the DIYVac DV4
Most of the clogs I have found have always been in the trap. Good video!

Curious, why are you against pressure? Worried about causing leaks in the line since it's only schedule 40?
My experience using pressure caused a little bit of water damage at a Starbucks. I used a corded shop vac to attempt to clear the line to no avail. I used my nitro tank and not only did I shuttle the clog further down the line, I blew out all 4 p trap vents that were tied to the same line. It was like a Vegas water show. I'm highly suspect the drain jumpers down and then up into another bay before it exits the wall.
Hoping to see the snot clog hit the rafters! Dang
Where would I get a contraption like that for slurping out my customers drains? Makes much less of a mess than c02..
It's on E Bay
Great video Ted, wish the phone would not have rung. That would have been an all-some site.
Do you guys have many Daikin units there?
I see very few.... there was that one there but I think it is the first I saw this whole year.
Thanks Ted.
Looking for your next video. Keep them coming!
Outstanding work you do.
Good job Ted..
Using some MacGyver skills on that snotty drain pipe.
What city and state do you service?
greenville,SC
You do very many con drain line clean outs. Installers need to use more 45 elbows
That look like paper that was broken down and drained into the pvc. Had that happen. Install guy left install papers in drain pan.
professionalism!, and by the way! My birth year is in I believe your phone number and what I thought in one of your other videos one of your trucks license plate. 64! Lol! The call of God!
what kind of vac is that? is it battery powered?
'
Thanks for all your videos Ted! Where can I buy that plumbing device at 10:23?

That's an awesome tool I believe. Thanks again for your tips. Your videos are very informative. Good day!
If you back flush it like that put your shop vac on the line inside and let it eat. I'll tape it on so it don't blow apart

Good job
What about a snake?
Good work
you can pull from the way water is coming.
Why not use a plumbers snake?
blast of co2 at first cut upstairs
Should had dumped it in the drain pan
Hooray! NITRO to the rescue finally yes works most of the time regulate psi 👍👍😉
You lost the money shot? Aww...
got to be kidding here
Looks like egg drop soup in your vacuum!
Ted aka "Clogmaster"... ;)
👍
You gave it 2 Flomax....
Microbes!
17:25 looks like Steve lav’s work lmao

Our ac unit seems to clog up every 6 months to a year.
Luckily I know how to clear it.
