    I have one of these built and it works just fine built out of the box. Maybe if you are going to drop it or drive it over a cliff you may wish for more metal parts, but for normal RC service it is absolutely fine!

      After building with all the options I have to agree it's a very solid tank out of the box

    The upgrades maybe not necessary but if you can throw down the dough for this kit, then the extra few hundred dollars for some zinc-alloy and metal/steel stuff puts you above the poor builder that is living paycheck to paycheck.

      This kit was considerably cheaper back in 2019, and I now strongly discourage anyone from buying the metal chassis from King Kong RC. I lived paycheck to paycheck for much of my life so I understand.

    Why does the "Full Option" kit come with plastic gears?

    • @PitstainHobbies
      @PitstainHobbies  Год назад

      They are generally considered plenty strong for the purpose, they only need to upgrade to metal frinal drive gears is if you will be putting it through constant extreme use.

      @whya2ndaccount Год назад +1

      @@PitstainHobbies I guess that's my query - surely to be called a "full option" kit it would have steel gears etc.?
      Or is there another level above "full", such as "ultimate" or something?
      For over $2,000 (at least here) I don't want to shred a plastic gear.

    • @PitstainHobbies
      @PitstainHobbies  Год назад

      @whya2ndaccount I have never had a gear strip, not to say it couldn't happen but Tamiya engineers these things and unless you start adding metal tracks or otherwise vastly increasing the weight or power level they are more than adequate.

    @16:10 I challenge you to do that again with the Gearbox, Speaker and upper Hull attached to the lower Hull.

    The plastic chassis is very strong

      Yes once assembled it is plenty strong, buying the aluminum lower hull was a bad idea.

    Thank you very much for this video. You have convinced me NOT to buy this kit. All the extra metal parts you have to buy ( from King Kong and other supplies ),, must have cost you a small fortune!!

      I own the Leopard 2A6 since about day 1 it was released to the public and the only parts I ever broke during normal use were the swing arms so yea... Those you should probably keep in mind needing a guaranteed replacement at some time. During my conversion into a 2A7+ ( imgur.com/a/GzLRqvl ) I managed to break some additional parts due to me excessively manhandling them while stripping the paint off but that is far from what you'd experience during, again, normal handling of the model.

    The problem why i hate Tamiya RC models is that tou should pay like 700 euros for it and you still need to PAINT it, for this money you can can get 1/16 torro full assembled and painted steel model, and you still have money to buy cheap Heng long 1/16 model XD and also seems like you need to buy more stuff for this model-.- which will put it's price over 1 k

    • @Duraltia

      I think you've fallen prey to a slight misconception here... Tamiya makes primarily scale models people want to build themselves and they just happen to occasionally put the extra effort into also making them RC Controllable. Your tooling will be different if your customers want to build your models themselves compared to the tooling where a factory worker will slap some spray paint over two shell model.
      I never owned anything else but Tamiya and have only seen the competition from RUclips Videos or Forum Posts and the way I see it you very much get what you pay for - Tamiya spends whole lot of research into their products like recording the sound of the last remaining functional King Tiger ( ruclips.net/video/vCsS20WJfBI/видео.html is the actual sound used on the MF-Unit! ) and companies like HL/Torro either just strip THAT Sound for use with their crap OR play a M1A2 sound on a Pershing Model - Same for the Gears! If you compare the difference in look between the flimsy HL Gearboxes compared to the sturdy Tiger, King II, Pershing, etc... they're worlds apart in build quality and sound and we're not even talking about the L2A6 introduced differential Gearbox where one motor drives and the other one steers.
      Also this Video was a terrible demonstration of the build quality of the Leopard 2A6 - Especially the part where he twists the lower Hull section was pure garbage and is impossible to replicate even in the slightest once the Speaker, Gearbox, Upper Hull, and Lower Hull have been assembled together using 19 Screws in total and thus forming a monolithic structure..
      Except for the Metal Swing Arms, which even Tamiya themselves have sold at a time, nothing presented in this was _necessary_ for the sake of keeping the model _running._
      They optional parts sure are nice to have ( I DO have the Roadwheels, Idler Wheel, and Return Rollers myself ) but none of them are likely to break unless you constantly keep disassembling and reassembling the model ( /cough ).
      I for one only ever broke 1 Swing Arm during _normal_ handling of the model ( driving around ) whereas the few other parts that I broke happened during my 2A7+ conversion ( imgur.com/a/GzLRqvl ) which included me repainting the model 3 times with lots of assembly and disassembly procedures because I wanted to try something new and didn't like what I ended up with the first two times.

      they reason they are so expensive is because they put a lot of effort into it

    • @tsugumorihoney2288
      @tsugumorihoney2288 Год назад

      @@lloyd9710 sure sure, but when u sell aa lot of them you made lots of money, and also U need to put a lots of effort in it, it is just ineffective for user, u waste lots of money, lots of time and get same result as u can buy torro model ready to go from box in full metall edition

    By the time this kit is finished with metal aftermarket stuff, it's almost $2000. Ridiculous! Tamiya has been around for decades, but an all plastic model for that cost is simply paying for the name....I should buy a Torro and put Tamiya electronics in it...
